  • Hair mistakes that age you faster happen ALL time! The COMMON problems I share in this video are simple to fix! If you have a bob hairstyle, you have likely struggled with these hair mistakes. Have you ever asked yourself, what's the best bob haircut for my face shape? I'll help you answer that. Or maybe you want to know if you should do a long bob haircut or a short bob haircut if you have a round face? What if you have a long face? You'll be shocked by the answers! When should you try and short hairstyle or a pixie haircut? Should you base it on what your hairstylist says would be the most flattering haircut on you? The answer is NO! I'll explain why in the video. So grab your favorite drink, relax and watch as I take Janet through the mistakes that are happening with her bob hairstyle and how she can fix those mistakes to get a more youthful look!

Well, he doesn't talk to her at all. He talks about her. Also, duh, coloring grey hair generally makes one look younger, but most of us who let it go grey have given up on the constant maintenance of color. It's not like we never heard of it before.

I agree! And it's really not much shorter than the style I would recommend that's more contrived anyway. If she didn't like it, you're totally correct, it would grow out SUPER fast, and shed be able to style it more contrived anyway!

11:19 Just wanted to say here that Janet looks really beautiful with her hair pulled completely back off her face. I know that photo was taken so you could photoshop other styles on her, but I was struck by how nice she looks with her hair back. ❤

Personally, I feel that Janet‘s original hair style showed she has a lot less hair than any of the simulated looks. So the work, hair products required & frequency of cuts to keep a shorter style working are all negative factors for me. Anyone one with a thick head of hair, straight or wavy, has a lot more options than Antoine worth fine hair.

    • @paulalarsen7697
      @paulalarsen7697 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

No, it's about the cut, the product you use, and how you style it. She can absolutely get any of those styles without an issue. The last one, my favorite on her, is all about layers, volume, and some curl. Achievable no matter which style she chooses.

  • @christinabayma119

I can relate to Janet. I'm 73 (a young 73 😉) Right now my short cut has grown out into a bob almost touching my shoulders. I have an appt with my stylist in 2 weeks and I've been all over your videos trying to decide what to do. This one probably helped me the most. For Janet, if she can style her new "do" as you've pictured it, I'd go for the short style. It makes her look younger! Very sassy!

14:03 Apparently that hair style will also: give her a darker blue shirt, a bit of a tan, a darker shade of lipstick, slightly fuller lips, make her eyes bluer, bring her hairline down to make a smaller forehead, tighten up her jowls, make her jaw line narrower, make her face overall slimmer, and knock back some wrinkles. Amazing what a haircut can do!

I agree...I'm in the short hair for older women camp, unless older women wear their hair 'up' it can drag the face down as we have, by that time probably developed jowls and sagging..(unless you are beautiful with strong bone structure)...

I think the low lights is a really good idea and that she should do it. I also like the shorter version, because I know what she's talking about, how we lose collagen in our face and our faces start to drop, and that short haircut gave her a lot of lift. Really looked pretty on her.

I've seen Janet's hairstyle on so many older women. No offense to Janet, however that style and length tend to make a woman looked even older than she is, look tired, and drags the face down. It also makes the hair look thinner than it probably really is. Not only do I like your curveballs for Janet, she looks great with her hair pulled straight back. It opens up her face and totally eliminates the aged tired look. Thank you Justin!

As a hairdresser, I totally agree that the client is thinking about their perception of themselves and what can we do to improve there look. It's such a fragile issue that most hairdressers don't take into consideration. I like how you addressed that, so true.

I've sadly not gone back to my hairdresser since the last few times she cut my fine hair badly. My hair's a mess, but I've had an offer from a stylist who offered to redo my hair for free- not sure if he's actually going to go through with it, but I'm hoping he will. It's sad when you lose trust in your hairdresser, it really is.

Longer hair almost ALWAYS looks better and younger. Having it long enough to spritz it with a little water and spin it into a bun on the top of her head when she's doing her chores, would solve her trouble dealing with the little bit of wave she was complaining about. It would let her use her waves to her advantage. When she'd let her hair down, it would look fuller, thus making her face look narrower (as she'd like). Waves that are more free look softer and younger.

I was quite surprised when you showed the comparative of Janet's present style vs her hair pulled off her face. IMHO, her hair did distract from her beauty in the pics. She has beauty that is hiding behind her hair! I couldn't put my finger on the exacts of why, but her beauty shows when her hair does not distract. AND, IMHO, the short layered look at the end seems to be very youthful. Enough so that I (with shoulder length hair at age of 73) suddenly know I am ready to get my locks cut. I will miss not being able to pull my hair off my face and yet, with this haircut and the right product, it could be styled with minimal fuss off the face or not. Thank you so much for posting this particular video!

Did you get a cut and style that work for you? I’m now in the same boat you were when you wrote this. I’m considering a pixie cut for the first time in like 15-20 years! I’m 65, currently with a layered bob that’s too heavy at the bottom behind my ears.

I think she should go for the short look with low lights to create movement. I don't think her hair is full or thick enough to create the volume in the longer suggestion. To attempt to create that volume would require a lot of effort, which she wanted to avoid. I also think the shorter style would be more youthful, even though we often associate shorter cuts with older women. I love your explanations, Justin.

What a fantastic episode. I love how you are teaching us how to communicate what we want from our hairdressers vs expecting them to know instantly.
I also love the options you presented, including the low lights but specifically the last two. The slightly funkier one is my fav as its joyful, fun, youthful and seems to light up her face and the other one is lovely too just a little more conservative. Really it comes down to personality as there is no wrong choice.

Love that last look on her! I think it’s more youthful and fun. I was all in on the 2 before that but once you did that little fun style, I immediately felt she was “less tired”. And I’m “tired” so I mean no offense at all! I did the shorter back and longer sides to front with my naturally curly hair. I loved it but I just can’t style it. And bless my stylist, she did the cut I asked for but she doesn’t know how to style curly hair so I’m still working it out. A year later.

    • @evezford
      @evezford ปีที่แล้ว

I just did the same thing and all I can do is scrunch styling cream in my naturally curly hair and diffuse it dry. If I tip my head upside down while drying it come out fuller. The stylist used more product with hold and I didn’t . But it’s fine for now.

Janet thanks so much for submitting your photos. My hair is similar so there was a lot of “take always”. I’ve stopped fighting the waves in my hair, and have the chin length bob with no bangs that he talked about and really like the movement from the waves. Now I see that I should go in for low lights again along with more layers.

Love funky and spunky look. The extra layers give so much character to her design.
Perhaps she can experiment with wash out color or shampoos to embrace elevating her look without being beholden to a color maintenance schedule. A soft hint of pink or violet would be lovely on her salts.
Well done Justin, love your show!🎉

I was thinking she might want to get a couple bottles of Splat! And experiment. With her skin I'd go go soft pale purple or else deep violet, not day-glo. She could also do bubblegum pink. Magenta I think would be too much, and the greens would just make her skin look yellow.

I love what you've suggested for her, and all your explanations. I love that you're so in tune with what your client wants. I'm the all-time greatest scardey cat when it comes to hair stylists - I'm in my sixties and have had about three or four cuts in my life that left me truly happy. Clearly I fail to communicate! The last time, nine years ago, she cut the layers so short that I couldn't keep them down. Since then (with only one exception) I've cut it myself - I realise it doesn't look great, but at least it's not so short that I'm miserable. I'd rather cut my fringe weekly, than have it cut half way up my forehead by some helpful hairdresser trying to save me the trouble. Justin I wish you could cut my hair for me, you inspire confidence.

The color is great, and the loose feathered look of the shorter one is more versatile - you can be free and wild, or you can control and taper the look afterward. The color is a huge difference - makes her eyes speak and makes her look less sallow. My fave is the last shaggy one. Go Janet!!

I totally agree with the lowlights suggestion. My colorist has suggested the same to me, since I’ve been interested in embracing my grays. I’ve done highlights forever and I’m tired of the struggle, but I was concerned about the grow out. What you said is the same thing I was told. And it makes perfect sense! The lower maintenance, the better. Great video!

I have been gray/silver/salt-pepper for at least ten years now.
It all started with salon applied lowlights and keeping my hair trim regularly.
As the silver/gray came in I bumped up a bold lip and somewhat luminous
Blush. Don’t forget a bit of a stronger eyebrow. Going gray can make you look faded, washed out.
I have been complimented quite often on my hair.
      Completely liberating!!!

I think just curling her hair would have fixed most of Janice's issues. It would have lifted her hair and given her more volume on top and the sides. The "after" image shown IMO has more of the "helmet" look that we were trying to avoid. Layering won't work for thin wavy hair because it just frizzes the ends.

Love both options! I actually have a similar style problem in that my hair gets heavy and drags face down and gets too full at the bottom abut the time I get it trimmed. It’s more flattering shorter and more layered, but I’m very active and need to pull it back.
