Just got a used one and not happy with the water filling up insufficiently but grateful for your input about what settings to use to get it filled! I had a Samsung and was happy for years! The only common issue is that the shocks go out but not that often! Very good washer
You've given a generously fair assessment, IMO, of this unit. I've owned one for five years, and until now I've been reluctantly satisfied. However, after two ($80 and $120) repairs that fell around Year 2 and Year 4, now I face a $300 repair. That's enough for me, the head of a household of a whopping THREE skinny people, one of whom now weighs 56 pounds). Today I officially ignored everybody who has ever had anything to say about this stuff and went with my own ulcered gut and bought what appears to be the opposite of what they all say I should. Yep, today is friggin Opposite Day; so deliver me the cheapest dial-decorated washer findable in a brick-and-mortar - $450 for a GE, which I've heard from so many experts is the least-reliable piece of trash out there (wife said it had to be a top-loader). We'll see how a so-called piece of trash compares to the "gold standard."

Sometimes, I add a little jug of water to clothes, so clothes are heavier. It thinks there’s more clothes, so gives more water. Of course deep wash, and only half filled with clothes.
I agree with you on your assessment of this washer. I owned one just like yours and it lasted me about 8 years. It honestly did an ok job at best. I ended up learning the hard way I could mix clothes like sweaters and shirts as they would all get tangled up and cleaning would be lessened. Even on cycles that used a full tub of water. For example the bulky cycle, the agitation was to weak to pull the clothes down. Although once I figured out how to get the best results with this machine, it handled ok. Although I'm much happier with the replacement washer I got once my bravos died
After four years of residential use by a family of four our Maytag Bravos model MVWX655DW1 washer had an unacceptable failure of transmission part # W11035751 due to poor design. The output shaft that drives the tub and agitator is unprotected from corrosion and is submersed in each wash cycle and subsequently designed to fail. This preventable failure could be prevented by the designer by plating the shaft or constructing it of stainless, but then they would sell less washers. The transmission purchased on E-bay was half the price than if purchased from Maytag and worked wonderfully but has the same issue. The only thing I could do on the replacement transmission to slow the corrosion is to paint the shaft then coat with silicone during assembly. I know this will make disassembly more difficult in the future, but it is the only option I have as grease may not be used inside the wash tub. The other issue of concern was the build up of a quarter inch of mud under the agitator and around the wash tub despite the regular use of the proper cleaning products to periodically flush the washer. My expectation of Maytag products was one of quality design but after seeing this failure in a relatively short period of time, my expectation has changed greatly!
Amazing you got 5 years. I had that very model, I think it was MVWX700 ? in 2011 and it only lasted 2 years. Cleaned well when it worked but lightly built and vibrated like crazy on spin, even without clothes in it. This washer was not good on bulky cycle . Agitation was to weak. I got a lemon I guess. The control board started malfunctioning sporadically early on and I had a feeling bad things were in-store. My whites were the cleanest I probably ever had out of a washer with that machine. Especially dirty white socks it cleaned very well. Scrub board effect and concentrated detergent did the trick. Just wish these were more reliable and that they wouldn't dumb down the hot water use. Ultimately agitator washers are the best I think overall.
I use it, I don’t like it. Same complaints. And.... when it gets off balance it not only stops but it drains. There goes my detergent down the drain and my water bill rises up as it has to fill back up. It’s making a funny buzzy electrical sound when it agitates now that it didn’t make before, any thoughts on that would be appreciated. Too often the water level does not come up high enough and my wash is dry and not washed then I have to run it AGAIN. Not “high efficient” when I have to do that. I would not buy it again.
Had mine about a year and just had first service call. Installer from Lowes put the hoses on backwards. Hot was cold, cold was hot. Being lazy couch potatoes, we just set the dial for hot when we wanted cold. LOL - Clothes were not getting clean so we assumed the agitation was off. The service person said that switch in temps was what caused the computer sensor to be off and that’s what caused the problem. He just switched the hoses, now cold really is cold, and he went on his merry way. This morning was first wash after service, and still not good. I now believe, thanks to you it was because we were washing everything on Normal and not Bulky so clothes were not getting wet enough. We won’t be buying another.
Hate mine but it’s lasted 4 years since I’ve bought it and hasn’t failed. Bought a Maytag Commercial washer 2018 model. Wanted a Speed Queen but the new model has such bad reviews!
I've got a Bravos xl, it an extra large washer but if you put a lot of clothes in, like you should be able to, like he says, some clothes don't even get wet let alone clean.. Give me a washer with an agitator any day..
My Maytag bravos was bouncing out of control soon after purchasing. I had three different service techs try to fix problem. One even said his bounces at home and not much you can do about it. I refused to give up on an American icon like Maytag. I eventually spoke to a service manger and he confirmed the problem was in the way I was loading washer. YOU MUST LOAD EVENLY AROUND THE SMALL AGITATOR. Just like you did with the old school washers. Now our flip flops wearing Sales rep did not share this little detail with me. So if you don't load correctly the washer will go out of balance. Now here's the kicker. After washing clothes out of balance for a few months, the drive shaft gets bent maybe slightly maybe more, but it won't take much of a bend to make washer basket to sound like all hell breaking lose. So the forth repairman came out and replaced the old drive shaft in about 30 minutes. The drive shaft is under the 10 year warranty so get it done and see for your self. My washer runs great now. I do wash jeans and towels by themselves and everything on deep water. But hang in there, you Maytag washer isn't thePOS you think it is. You just weren't given correct instructions on how to operate and proper loading isn't mentioned in hand book. Good luck and give it a try.
i have had lots of problems. model MVWX 655 DW. purchased 03/24/2017 never ever filled properly... it NEVER on ANY SETTING ever filled water level to top of clothes. i tried every setting. very noisy, and yes clothes tangle. multiple service calls. now in 2 years this machine is beyond repair and thank goodness that i bought the extended full warranty. going to call lowes warranty insurance division now to see how they are going to handle this. Help us out? We need a washer for cheap and one rarely ever shows up on the facebook sale groups. Today, someone posted a bravos x for only $50! They say that sometimes it will spin and sometimes it won't spin. In your opinion, if the spin issue is NOT due to clothes being unevenly distributed, do you think we could fix that pretty easily? Also, we saw another youtube vid that showed how to "recalibrate" the machine; have you ever done that and does it help anything? Thanks
They make a commercial Maytag top loader with a five year warranty, ten year on the motor. The outside is all galvanized steel and looks like something from the 80s. The only issue is that it's $800. Cheaper than a speed queen and will clean better than a new speed queen. Hell, a $400 Amana will clean better than the 2018 speed queens. Talk about a company that ruined themselves.
Mine is a POS !! I won't buy Maytag again. The water level doesn't get the clothes on top wet, even on deep cycle. It doesn't agitate the clothes during the cycle. It just rubs the bottom clothes to death. The spin cycle does a decent job of removing what little water there is. This machine looks nice, but the performance is a joke !!
Same complaint here. It doesn't even clean my clothes. I've never had such a horrible washer and dryer. All my clothes come out extremely wrinkled. Absolutely horrible.
Have to put it on the bulky sheets setting in order to fill the water drum that's the only way it will do it otherwise it's high efficiency no water you end up with dirty clothes

My washer is 3.5 years old and need the beating replaced. The spin cycle is so loud you can here it in the bedrooms, the laundry room is located at the far end of the house the other side from the bedrooms. Labor cost to repair $350 Maytag said they would cover parts. Does a good job washing. Expect a washer to last at least 8-10 Years or longer. So disappointed. We decided to replace the washer. Now reading reviews checking consumer reports. 😩

My machine developednan odor even after numerous cycles w/ cleaner.Then I noticed the RUST!!!! UNDER the top area where you put detergent & bleach..I made it a point to dry my washer after finishing my laundry but then the odor started.
My machine doesn't spin fast enough to remove most of the water; I often have run loads through spin cycle two or three times. Incredibly irritating and definitely not energy efficient when you have to do this repeatedly. My next washing machine will have higher RPMs, and it will NOT be another Bravos.
@@mikecloutier4794 True--but the load *becomes* unbalanced during the wash or spin cycle (I don't know which). I always distribute the laundry in the machine evenly.
I have the MAYTAG BRAVOS washer and dryer set on the first floor of my house and on the second floor of my house. These units were purchased in 2019. Today, Thanksgiving day 2020, I put a small load in the the upstairs washer and the washer would not start. It wouldn't do any thing. I checked the power to the washer and it is fine. I will call Maytag tomorrow to see what could be wrong. I will get it fixed but, I will get rid of these shit things in about 5 to 7 years and I will not recommend them to anyone, not even my first wife whom I cannot stand. You just lost my future dollars Maytag!
yes, mine went out as well and lowes extended warranty is rejecting it as being beyond feasible repair cost. lets see how they handle this now. i still have to call that special replacement/refund division.
How did you know the agitator was out? We just replaced the water pump and now it will spin but the wash plate doesn't move. In other videos it looks like the plate will spin freely when broken but mine doesn't. I'm trying to figure out if it could be a transmission issue or something else 🤦♀️
I hate this machine, it's crap, broke down numerous times, it won't wash blankets and spin out properly. Goes unlevel constantly. Won't spin, lid lock is now broke. Run from this machine.

This is the worst washer I have ever owned. I have only had it a couple weeks and has already tore up some of my clothes. Had maytag repair man here. He basically stated that the machine is crap and the complaints i have are same as everyone else. Some clothes don't even get wet. Can't get clothes clean if they do not get wet. I feel Maytag has ripped off everyone that has purchased this brand. I will never own a maytag again!!!
I do not like this Washer I bought both Washer and Dryer and they don't get the stains out of the close and the dryer drys ok but lint is on the close looks horrible on the dark close I'm so disappointed and they cost so much money. you cant just go out and get another set I like the older ones much better this is not good quality
I don’t make enough money to buy new stuff so almost everything I own I either get free or almost free. I get a free machine or trade something for it and it goes bad in about 2 years or less and I repeat the process. I often buy it with a problem and fix it. In those endeavors, I have found the people giving away machines with problems do the worst with Samsung. Now Samsung makes excellent phones(their cheap or free phones are worse due to price not quality). They make other good products but stay away from Samsung appliances until they get their act together. Yes, they are worse even than the brands you guys are complaining about.

I’ve heard many similar reviews about these wash plate styled washers personally I would never get one I had it I returned it luckily they took it back I bought a speed queen instead no problems whatsoever works like a dream
One of the most dumbest things i have seen by washing machine manufacturers it the design of the top load washing machines. The limit there sales by the design of the machines. Kind of stupid. But i am not going to tell them how to correct it. They have to pay for knowledge, just like the whole world.

Check for used ones. You can still find good ones from people that think they're "upgrading".

I own a Bravos. It does not agitate the clothes. The items basically sit on to as the bottom agitator moves underneath. Horrible design.

Have the same issue with it snagging towels and eventually they end up as my husband shop rags because they get ripped so bad.

Do not buy Maytag bravos, it’s a pos, mine has rust at only 4 months and has had service done twice !

I would rather have a top load any day. Frontload washer will walk on you. You let a load get offset. It will wabble and walk out on you

loads not balanced. causes this problem and won't spin. imagine a high speed spin out of balance, the drum will bounce right out of the machine.

They tangle when you load them incorrectly. Read the owners manual and don't overload.

One more negative, it doesn't have a buzzer to tell you the cycle is finished completely.

I do not like this Washer I bought both Washer and Dryer and they don't get the stains out of the close and the dryer drys ok but lint is on the close looks horrible on the dark close I'm so disappointed and they cost so much money. you cant just go out and get another set I like the older ones much better this is not good quality

I don’t make enough money to buy new stuff so almost everything I own I either get free or almost free. I get a free machine or trade something for it and it goes bad in about 2 years or less and I repeat the process. I often buy it with a problem and fix it. In those endeavors, I have found the people giving away machines with problems do the worst with Samsung. Now Samsung makes excellent phones(their cheap or free phones are worse due to price not quality). They make other good products but stay away from Samsung appliances until they get their act together. Yes, they are worse even than the brands you guys are complaining about.

I’ve heard many similar reviews about these wash plate styled washers personally I would never get one I had it I returned it luckily they took it back I bought a speed queen instead no problems whatsoever works like a dream

One of the most dumbest things i have seen by washing machine manufacturers it the design of the top load washing machines. The limit there sales by the design of the machines. Kind of stupid. But i am not going to tell them how to correct it. They have to pay for knowledge, just like the whole world.

Piece of shizzle! Less than 4 years old and transmission just went. They wanted 600 to fix. Did it myself for 300 still too much!
