This was when Halo was about the community and having fun. The competitiveness came naturally. This was an example of what we can call heart and soul in a title.
The vibe of mates on a couch is exactly what games are missing these days. The super strict sbmm and forced lobby breakups have left games feeling cold and distant, its so rare to find a match with more than one unmuted mic these days in most games.

Halo will never be fun again until they bring back the life that was Halo. The trash talk on unmuted mics, the quick lobby load times, having the option to keep playing the same team once the match ends, good UI with simple layout and showing who was online and what they were playing. Halo has lost the heart of what made it great when 343 took over. Hopefully Halo Studios (still largely 343 devs) can finally produce a game that returns to form all with improved graphics and the wacky physics we've missed from past games.
Even the halo 3 kids will never understand how crazy halo 2 was. Playing 8v8 clan battles, having a friends list that showed your rank, emblem, color of your spartan and clan, the ranking system being INSANE on a difficulty level, mostly because of cheater sadly. But the game was so unique.
And the Halo 2 kids won't know how it went down with Halo CE. There was no MP experience like Halo CE 😎 The biggest LAN party I was at was probably 20 guys in my buddys 2 story house. The gaming industry in general needs this back. It's filled with people who are in it for the job and not gamers making games. These guys were just like us. It's all so corporate now. That's unfortunately the consequence of gaming becoming so profitable and mainstream. Look at the recent "Halo Studios" announcement and you can smell the foul stench of corporatism all over it.
That's part of it but most of it is on gamers. I host Halo LAN parties to this day and 16 player Halo MCC and Halo Infinite is better than whatever we had back in the day. If everyone held LAN parties then there's more pressure on these corporations to cater to us. But as it stands we're a minority.
@@KrisKlicks not really. It does suck that colors and skins cost a butt load today, but the overwhelming majority of that content is optional. DLC map packs were cheaper and you got more for less, but those that couldn't get them were essentially locked out of half the game. As a kid growing up in that era, I didn't expereince any of the DLC map packs until MCC released and gave them out for free, which was obviously many years later, but I didn't have a choice since no 10 year old is going to have a debit card or enough cash to just drop another $60 on map packs. Your parents would have to be very generous and understanding to buy them for you, which unfortunately wasn't the case for many. I wasn't legally allowed to work until the MCC era, and that was coincidentally when they stopped making DLC packs.
We lost the main social aspect that made the community THE community. I feel like it's partly due to censorship. There was definitely a bit of hate fueled shit talk back in the day especially with cod (MW2 I'm looking at you) but I think ultimately that's what got the whole concept axed.
