I just finished a 1825km trip down the west coast from Nelson and back up the east coast over the weekend on a motorbike (Aprilia 900 Shiver) I don't think I'll be in a hurry to do it again, every part of me hurt. When I went to the Cave Stream place many years ago, we had the abseil down into it from what would be the top there were no ladders.
Yup the fern is important, specifically the Silver fern and it is only found in the North Island and the top of the South Island. Due the National Parks being protected you can't build in those locations unless absolutely necessary and by that we mean for conservation areas or huts for long hiking trips

So great of Tom to lend you Jerry. We rented a VW camper van in late December ten years ago to explore the South Island and it was very cold and weather was pretty awful, for summer! NZ is stunningly beautiful, and the wild lupins were everywhere! We spent NYE in Milford Sound.

I'm a Kiwi and absolutely love the country, but what I love more is when foreigners come and explore and find places I've never been or seen. Summer is very mild this year so you may be in luck as the New Zealand sun is intense even on cold summer days. Just to be clear, the vast majority of our roads do not require driving through rivers or up steep rocky slopes - we do have motorways and highways! :) Appreciate you investigating those areas a bit off the main roads though!
Too bad Eva dropped out in Mexico to leave the crew. She lost great travel companions. I bet she had to follow her own cause. I love New Zealand. I noticed you went to Tasman Lake and its vast glacier. I had no reference until a tour boat came out into the lake and was literally dwarfed. And the Fjordlands… so so beautiful. Did you try the famous Fergburger in Queenstown? 😉

Queenstown is a lovely place to visit as a traveller, I have very fond memories of holidays to the area as a child, unfortunately trying to afford to live there these days is a bit of a dream due to cost of living in that area, that regret in not purchasing property in that area when it was more affordable decades ago. Its okay though, Dunedin is pretty nice place to live and close enough to drive to all these places.

First time zeeing your channel, ramdomly came up! Awesome Tom, Kiwos can be very generous to well deserved people if geniune, so good to see, u guys really look after Jerry as well so easy to share! Im thinking back of Tekapo you took the left valley the Godley up towards the glacier? Have done McCauley awesome in snow and in summer was in flood April 23 so Godley was washed out and raging, McCauley bonnet depth in places but we had stunning weather, pity you dont have more time to explore! People underestimate how much there is to see and explore even on one location and can spend allot of ti,e driving a long way to see everything but still only the tip of what each place has! Qtown is a vibe, but re your ranking def .5 tp -1 down due to cost to live there, its very expensive one if not the most expensive in NZ , not trying to be negative but it catchs out OE migrants as well as Kiwi's amd housing buy or rent is hard tp get and high! Just factpr that in, ,many great places within Central Otago to live also expensive some more reasonable and an hour away! Look forward to the next vid, I hope you go off up the Key to the Kiwi Burn road to Mt Nicklaus Station, ots amazing, one pf my fav places! Also tip if you dont have bushman, buy a bottle of Johnson's baby oil and dettol at any supermarket, mix 50/50 its the best repellent and bite fix ever, ya wont smell like a Boss but its very effective for any insects esp flying biting one's, I have used it everywhere oS Aussie bush to ends neve failed me. The Fjords! Milford Sound! I bet that was some fresh air! I loved the road you were on, it was fun to watch Jerry go through the water. I thought for sure that the first car was in trouble on the big crossing! That was pretty wild🫢🫡😀. The only thing that would have made this video any better would have been the addition of Tom!

Worthwhile to mention there tend to be lots of quicksand patches in the higher reaches of those braided river valleys, especially after floods. It may look like a nice sandy patch, next thing you`re up to your door handles. Good Luck,,,

You didn’t even see, a 1/8 of what NZ is all about. Shame about the weather you are having! It’s been the worst summer on record. What a bummer for you. Yes 4x4 driving you will always get people follow, they watch to see your crossing, to see if you get through, then follow you if it looks like it’s safe of help rescue you if you get stuck. Always better in a group when doing this :) I live near a river and we have pulled so many people out - I’ve lost count ! Enjoy your stay ❤️

Our most famous walks are popular with many Kiwis and sell within minutes. There is so much we can do that is free or cheap. And then there are those Kiwis who head to Aussie beaches. Tourists here think NZ is empty compared to Europe. Of course it is. Tiny population. So no, it is not because Kiwis stay home.

Welcome to the most diverse and beautiful country I call home now. You will run out of time to see all the beautiful spots. We are currently freedom camping at lake Pukaki. Nobody around and fews of Mount Cook. You are spot on you find lots of spot that look like other countries but now there are no people of houses. Thats also the reason we always skip Queenstown, Its over rated. You have to come back as you missed so many extremely beautiful spots.
Great adventures, looking forward to stunning Indonesia. Not many peope get to see more than Bali and Jakkarta. I sailed on a Cat' from Pukeht, Thailand through Indonesia for a month and then from the Kimberly coast across to the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland. Enjoy Se Asia. Eat beef rendang, its one of my favourite dishes.
@NextMeridianExpedition Indonesia is stunning, so is a Thailand and Malaysia by boat. If you ever get the chance explore the Kimberly on the water. The 1000 island archipelago should be as revered as the Great Battier Reef. It's so remote and untouched.
Milford Sound is spectacular but if you want mind blowing then Doubtful Sound is unbelievable. Been there twice. Oh and go in winter. It’s my favourite South Island destination.
Tom is an awesome friend what a legend, Don't worry about the cold as the North Island is just as spectacular and warmer after all where else in the World can you go Snow Skiing and Water Skiing within an Hours drive as you can there. Interesting you consider New Zealand as a potential permanent home in the future, I think you could not do much better when you consider that New Zealand, Australia the Pacific Islands and Asia and even South America are all so accessible from each other but especially so from New Zealand, Then there is Antarctica which is accessible mainly from South America commercially. All in all the rest of the world mainly offers History and different cultures but with maybe the exception of the wildlife in North America and Africa and the Russian federation are simply outclassed by what being based in New Zealand has to offer as a permanent home. Consider this as I am Australian but have travelled and also consider New Zealand would be an awesome place to live especially after what you two have experienced across the World where else could you base yourselves and have such good access to all those places I have listed above that between them tick pretty much all the boxes and all have so much more to offer for more in depth visits in the future. Your talents in Travel vlogging make it highly likely you could make a permanent career from such a lifestyle, But with trips maybe as a guide and not requiring permanent life on the road but when and where you choose, New Zealand would make a great base to do that from because all the places you have visited all have so much more to explore and offer to potential clients and that means New Zealand is a great base to do that from.
We're excited about the possibilities that New Zealand has to offer! But with families in Europe one can’t be much further that would be the only downside for us

Both Australia and New Zealand as well as some parts of Africa and Southern South America are the best places these days
Mum the southern alps has a ton load of fault lines on it so who would live in a zone like that?, have a look see at what happened to chch in 2010 & 2011 earthquakes and you'll understand why few ppl live their just my thoughts

Please take care when driving on the braided river beds. Many of our endangered birds nest in the gravel and are difficult to see.
Impossible to see. One should only be driving in certain areas.
Just drive in areas where the river has recently flooded onto, birds don`t nest underwater,,,
they wouldn't care, they are "world travellers" hoping for an equally boring audience audience

Also tip if you dont have bushman, buy a bottle of Johnson's baby oil and dettol at any supermarket, mix 50/50 its the best repellent and bite fix ever, ya wont smell like a Boss but its very effective for any insects esp flying biting one's, I have used it everywhere oS Aussie bush to ends neve failed me.

The Fjords! Milford Sound! I bet that was some fresh air! I loved the road you were on, it was fun to watch Jerry go through the water. I thought for sure that the first car was in trouble on the big crossing! That was pretty wild🫢🫡😀. The only thing that would have made this video any better would have been the addition of Tom!

Worthwhile to mention there tend to be lots of quicksand patches in the higher reaches of those braided river valleys, especially after floods. It may look like a nice sandy patch, next thing you`re up to your door handles. Good Luck,,,

at the 21min mark up the macualy valley you guy's missed out on an amazing stone hut would be about an hour up the valley from where you camped
We know …. We had a rough time crossing some of the rivers with Jerry and did not want to risk it further cause rain was pouring the next morning

You didn’t even see, a 1/8 of what NZ is all about. Shame about the weather you are having! It’s been the worst summer on record. What a bummer for you. Yes 4x4 driving you will always get people follow, they watch to see your crossing, to see if you get through, then follow you if it looks like it’s safe of help rescue you if you get stuck. Always better in a group when doing this :) I live near a river and we have pulled so many people out - I’ve lost count ! Enjoy your stay ❤️

Those landscapes are INSANE! How is it possible that places like this actually exist and aren't packed with tourists 24/7? 😍
A large percentage of new zealanders barely live paycheck to paycheck so never get to be tourists in their own country.
@@minxthedog2769Kiwis go tenting, cycling, hiking, surfing, fishing, swimming and just plain old touring. We share baches, cribs, beach cottages, huts . Kiwis try to avoid the peak tourism season. Our most famous walks are popular with many Kiwis and sell within minutes. There is so much we can do that is free or cheap. And then there are those Kiwis who head to Aussie beaches. Tourists here think NZ is empty compared to Europe. Of course it is. Tiny population. So no, it is not because Kiwis stay home.

Welcome to the most diverse and beautiful country I call home now. You will run out of time to see all the beautiful spots. We are currently freedom camping at lake Pukaki. Nobody around and fews of Mount Cook. You are spot on you find lots of spot that look like other countries but now there are no people of houses. Thats also the reason we always skip Queenstown, Its over rated. You have to come back as you missed so many extremely beautiful spots.

Great adventures, looking forward to stunning Indonesia. Not many peope get to see more than Bali and Jakkarta. I sailed on a Cat' from Pukeht, Thailand through Indonesia for a month and then from the Kimberly coast across to the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland.

If you ever get the chance explore the Kimberly on the water. The 1000 island archipelago should be as revered as the Great Battier Reef. It's so remote and untouched.

Milford Sound is spectacular but if you want mind blowing then Doubtful Sound is unbelievable. Been there twice. Oh and go in winter. It’s my favourite South Island destination.
Tom is an awesome friend what a legend, Don't worry about the cold as the North Island is just as spectacular and warmer after all where else in the World can you go Snow Skiing and Water Skiing within an Hours drive as you can there.
Interesting you consider New Zealand as a potential permanent home in the future, I think you could not do much better when you consider that New Zealand, Australia the Pacific Islands and Asia and even South America are all so accessible from each other but especially so from New Zealand, Then there is Antarctica which is accessible mainly from South America commercially.
All in all the rest of the world mainly offers History and different cultures but with maybe the exception of the wildlife in North America and Africa and the Russian federation are simply outclassed by what being based in New Zealand has to offer as a permanent home.
Consider this as I am Australian but have travelled and also consider New Zealand would be an awesome place to live especially after what you two have experienced across the World where else could you base yourselves and have such good access to all those places I have listed above that between them tick pretty much all the boxes and all have so much more to offer for more in depth visits in the future.
Your talents in Travel vlogging make it highly likely you could make a permanent career from such a lifestyle, But with trips maybe as a guide and not requiring permanent life on the road but when and where you choose, New Zealand would make a great base to do that from because all the places you have visited all have so much more to explore and offer to potential clients and that means New Zealand is a great base to do that from.
We're excited about the possibilities that New Zealand has to offer! But with families in Europe one can’t be much further that would be the only downside for us
@@NextMeridianExpedition They can always move there as well, Europe is not what it once was, I find the same sentiment from Americans who moved to Australia when comparing where they came from to where they are now America is not what it once was.
Both Australia and New Zealand as well as some parts of Africa and Southern South America are the best places these days
