This is a great tip. I have a stud finder, but found out the hard way that the stud finder thinks PVC drain pipes are studs. This should help me differentiate between the two.
I had the same issue and drilled into my cpvc sprinkler system pipe. Learned the hard way that there was a different shut off for the sprinkler system.
Great tips. Another way to confirm that you hit wood is you will feel the torque on the drill increase after the first 5/8" of screw penetration. Another way is to drill a hole with a small drill bit and you should get wood coming out of hole and on bit. The advantage of a stud finder is you can find the exact center of the stud which does not matter so much for picture hanging but is very important for something heavy such as a bracket for a TV.
I lost my stud finder and was about to run out to HD to buy a new one to hang a shelf. This saved me a trip. 😃 Thanks dude.
Cool glad it help!
Thanks for the vid.. verified what my last handyman did! Thumbs up!
I enjoyed the story of you discovering this

Oh god...
Pretty cool man, just a simple magnet.

Love it
It's a good idea but it's super cheap but if that's what you need fair enough
Well that didnt work....You got paperwalls? Tried with a few N52 magnets...maybe they arent powerful enough?
thank you
They are SCREWS not nails.
In the video I put a screw in the stud, but the magnet is finding the nails that are in the wall. ( Ryan Homes uses nails to hang the drywall)
How will a magnet find AC Zapped buddy ⚡️ by electricity ⚡️
