The choice of how the hand shifter is done is crucial to the coolness factor. The palmetto bug is definitely cool! Indian Larry had a sawed off double barrel shotgun barrel as his shifter so sick!
Loving this build Josh, the bike gets better and better and promoting that message 'get ya hands dirty and make some stuff!' Can't praise that enough. Dirty hands are happy hands... I mean... um... okeeee.... ANYWAYS! ;D
Be proud of all your accomplishments. Your growing and becoming more adept at things you have never done before. If people get happy about a level number in a game you should relish in the personal milestones you make.
"That much weirder" --- I'm glad you said that and not me! I do like the single carb manifold. Imagine the tuning nightmare that old six-cylinder Honda would be.
Also, Shadetree should absolutely get to take the CBX for a spin. And I wanna see that video. I also predict that Shadetree will fall in love and have to find a way to own a CBX.
Glad to see you moving on with the chop ,,,can't beat doing your own fab etc and those keeping you up at night ideas are a pain but it's an every day thing when your Doing a project
Awesome that you put your mind to this and we've been able to see you progress your way through it this far. Its truly and inspiration, brother, to all of us procrastinators whom might not be sure enough of our ability to pull something like this off.
Fun fact about drilling metals, if you are getting ling Twist's of material comming off or good chucks you are drilling at the perfect speed and pressure. That is how its supposed to look but when they catch a finger they are razor sharp happens with airplanes all the time.
The vertical plate arrangement is kind of a hallmark of choppers and bobbers, but be warned. Some places like California find those illegal. Just keep that in mind when crossing states. That said, it does look cool. Like that shifter knob. Good on ya for making it work. It’s coming together!
And now the phase of the wiring can be seen in the dim light of a new dawn. Dont envy you man. I've got that nightmare waiting on my fzr 600 hard tail chop..... I'll be watching that future episode intensely 😂
I'm really enjoying this build. I've mentioned before there is a sweet spot in my heart for the XS650 line; I've had thee of them. The coolest was the 1971 with a 140 MPH speedometer, a decompression lever for kick starting, and a dampening knob on the triple tree for highway cruising. You're doing good ;-) I'm really interested to see how the intake manifold works out. That was something that didn't exist when I was riding XS650s but always dreamed of making one.
Great video! I understand exactly how it feels to have something like that brake light switch mounting bracket keep you up at night. You were developing an effective design solution in your head. Pretty much what I get to do regularly at my job. Very cool, keep the progress coming!
Hell Yeah! You have grown in confidence and skill being able to make that knob fit, and you did it with simple tools, nice one. Love your videos Josh, and your vocabulary. Massive thumbs up from me. Also.. CBX! HELL YEAH!!!
For what you're doing I would use a stick welder with 6013 rods in several sizes, you can reach in those tight places, and even bend the rod to go around stuff in the way, high heat and a fast hand and you'll be looking expert, love the job with the shift kjob
I'm a novice welder as well I think I'm going to try your heating tip next time and see if it makes my god awful booger welds any better. Keep it up man the bike is looking great.
Preheating the metal is mostly if your welder isn't rated with enough amps for the thickness of the metal you're welding. Too cold of a welder won't penetrate the metal to form an efficient weld. The more you practice, the less the welds will look like you decided to use your work as an inefficient tissue/snot rocketed all over the work
Shadetree just to give ya a head's up. Vertical mounting of yer tag is illegal in Florida, depends on the cop but they do gig ya for it. I got one on 95 in Jupiter while headin to Daytona to see my sister. Also if you have to apply for a "assembled from parts" title they can mess with ya about it when ya bring it in for the inspection when ya go to appy for title. Once again depends on the inspector, some look the bike over some just want the receipts and mso's and just walk around the truck. I've done it more n few times for bikes I've built had both types of Inspector. But that's only if ya have to go ASMP title which in yer case ya don't. Just givin a little info Put Shadetree on the CBX!!! Also good work on the shift knob, Bikes gonna look great when yer done. Think I'll have to ride up to Tampa and the Dirty Shame and take a look when yer done
www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2018/316.2085 I think that's been changed about the tag, maybe. "Alternatively, a license tag for a motorcycle or moped for which the numbers and letters read from top to bottom may be affixed perpendicularly to the ground." Then, there is other weird language I don't get.
Great job your getting things done in your own and the learning curve is a steep but attainable curve .The cbx was a nice surprise my mate used be a courier and he would sometimes ride his brothers cbx around town to see a six cylinder honda wheelying around London is a pretty special sight ride it if you can pretty rare beast now
Feels good to fabricate your own parts and to tell ppl that you yourself done it. I bought a pan seat for my Sportster and the mounting kit was $200. I said f_ck that so I built my own.
Whole episode was awesome man, and that shift knob is absolutely sick. A proper custom bike :) Also shit forgot, yeah let the man ride the CBX!!! I want a CBX..........
i always loved choppers that had the break light on the sissy bar and your seat looks wide enough the plate wont stick out. mock it up shadetree i think it would look sick. keep the bike narrow.
Enjoying this build series had a 81 650 special super reliable motors. Going to look awesome when it's finished, shift knob looks cool would have been funny though if it was a black Widow....from the any which way movles for those who are too young.
Two into one intake is a good idea,I,m not so sure about it sticking right out the side,,but your choice,, years ago I had a BSA 650 Thunderbolt,,which was the cheap BSA 650,,and yeah it had a single carb,, it was alot less bother then the twin carb versions and better mpg and not much slower.
HOWdy S-T-S, I like ALL of your "EXCESS-650" Chopper Series ! :-) Legality is a LOAD off of anyone's MIND ! COOP ......................................
Coming together nicely. Use some oil when you're tapping though, it will make it a lot easier and the threads will cut cleaner. Also it looks like the switch springs is catching the frame. Your welds are starting to look better, not by much...but it's an acquired skill. Shift knob is killer though.
I have owned XS650s for 25 years and it has literally never occurred to me to put a single carb on. I've been riding TR6 Triumphs for the same amount of time and I am 100% a disciple of the 1 carb bike.
It's the little things like this that often make or break a build. Good job man! 👌 Two? How can you live life with only two grinders? Quit depriving yourself Josh. Grab a few more. Another bench grinder and a belt grinder while you're at it to make life easier. Must say though, you've gotten pretty damn good with those angle grinders. 👍 Lecrton carbs on an XS650? That's the only thing Hugh's Handbuilt runs on his. 😉 Lookin forward to more in this series. ✌
The choice of how the hand shifter is done is crucial to the coolness factor. The palmetto bug is definitely cool! Indian Larry had a sawed off double barrel shotgun barrel as his shifter so sick!
Good on you for loving & appreciating ALL makes not just Harley's 🙌. Giving Harley guys a good name👍.
The shift knob fabrication is one of my favorite things you've done to this bike so far.
So glad you took the time to get that shifter knob to work! Looks sick. I'm enjoying the hell out of this build!
Loving this build Josh, the bike gets better and better and promoting that message 'get ya hands dirty and make some stuff!' Can't praise that enough. Dirty hands are happy hands... I mean... um... okeeee.... ANYWAYS! ;D
That shifter knob is sick bro. Keep it up and keep getting those wins!
My confidence in your ability grows with every new video. Refuses to fail and if you do, call it an artistic choice.
Be proud of all your accomplishments. Your growing and becoming more adept at things you have never done before. If people get happy about a level number in a game you should relish in the personal milestones you make.
Wicked intake, can't wait to see it on the bike. PLEASE LET HIM RIDE THE CBX!!!
"That much weirder" --- I'm glad you said that and not me! I do like the single carb manifold. Imagine the tuning nightmare that old six-cylinder Honda would be.
You are the average guy learning a great trade, I'm proud of ya !
Holy shnikies! That CBX is AWESOME! Yes - I wanna see Shade on the CBX!!!
#Hondalove
I love it that shade tree is now not only looking somewhat like BA out of the A team, but is fabricating to a similar level as well!
Not enough pvc and duct tape. Still jas a way to go. 😉
Brother I love the progress. Inspiration to everyone. If you put your mind to it you can do almost anything.
Shade tree Surgeon on a CBX.......HELL YEAH!!!!
Shadetree Surgeon The shifter knob looks very cool, nice job. The XS 650 has come a long way since you brought it home. You’re doing a kickass job.
You are doing a awesome job considering your just trying everything out for the first time. I respect it.
Shadetree provides the only sunday service i need
Also, Shadetree should absolutely get to take the CBX for a spin. And I wanna see that video. I also predict that Shadetree will fall in love and have to find a way to own a CBX.
Glad to see you moving on with the chop ,,,can't beat doing your own fab etc and those keeping you up at night ideas are a pain but it's an every day thing when your Doing a project
Good job on the bracket dude!!!
That shifter knob is bad ass. I must admit, you got me trying things on my motorcycle that I would never try before. You got me going man!
I too am really enjoying watching this build. We just keep going smoothly along, and it’s awesome!
Shadetree on the Honda cbx hell, yeah 👍✌️😁
Awesome that you put your mind to this and we've been able to see you progress your way through it this far. Its truly and inspiration, brother, to all of us procrastinators whom might not be sure enough of our ability to pull something like this off.
Two words,” inspiration, baby!!”
Your tired but I'm not! I want to see more lol! Really enjoying the build so far.
I have wanted to put a suicide shift on my 2016 softail slim for awhile. Josh is it so easily! Impressive! 👍
Fun fact about drilling metals, if you are getting ling Twist's of material comming off or good chucks you are drilling at the perfect speed and pressure. That is how its supposed to look but when they catch a finger they are razor sharp happens with airplanes all the time.
Awesome! That makes me happy, I just thought it looked cool 😂

It is also illegal in Florida!
@dimecitycycles let my guy ride the CBX. Everybody wins!! HeeeeellllllYeeeaaaaaaaaah!!
And now the phase of the wiring can be seen in the dim light of a new dawn. Dont envy you man. I've got that nightmare waiting on my fzr 600 hard tail chop..... I'll be watching that future episode intensely 😂
great job-making stuff bend to your will, your growing and getting better and better
Your skills are growing exponentially. Love the shifter.
I would love to ride a bike that sounds like an Indy car! Next best is live it vicariously through shadetree
Never knew Honda offered sidecars ---- ultra cool!
F@cking kickin ass dude! You ever wonder how those guys who build bikes got so good? Just like you are man, one piece at a time!
Badass Brother! Just make it if it ain’t available. Hell Yeah!!!!!
Loved those CBX's ever since I saw them on the movie Knightriders with Ed Harris.
Bro! Master Engineer Shadetree.... HELL YEAH!!!
I'm really enjoying this build. I've mentioned before there is a sweet spot in my heart for the XS650 line; I've had thee of them. Excellent work!
Thanks for the lessons in metalfab/design/build.
Flying by one's seat of the pants seems to be the way!
Great video! I understand exactly how it feels to have something like that brake light switch mounting bracket keep you up at night. You were developing an effective design solution in your head. Pretty much what I get to do regularly at my job. Very cool, keep the progress coming!
Keep up the momentum on that xs650! Good vibes.
The sense of accomplishment shines in your vids
Hey shade tree.thanks for the vids man it keeps me.occupied while I'm away from home for months on end.uour videos got me into biking
Thanks for the support!
Hell Yeah! You have grown in confidence and skill being able to make that knob fit, and you did it with simple tools, nice one. Love your videos Josh, and your vocabulary. Massive thumbs up from me.
Also.. CBX! HELL YEAH!!!
Light and license plate bracket look great and let shadetree ride the CBX
Shadetree on the CBX !!!
I've been killing myself laughing at that Florida State bird. My wife was looking at me funny for laughing at it 😂🤣
we gotta see Shadetree on the CBX
Honestly one of the best fuggin shifter knobs of all time 👌🇺🇸

@@reallyoldfart6540 I was stopped on 7/19/19 so FHP is still writing summons for improper tag for Vert. tags
For a guy always putting himself down, you sure pick things up fast. :) That's gonna be such a cool bike. Cheers from Canada ! :)
Sometimes the hardest hill to climb , is the one in your mind. (don't forget to threadloc the knob)
And make it Blue Locktight just in case you want to change it later.
Looks good
Well done Homie.... Well done.... Lovin' the uniqueness of the bike bro!

Love the shifter knob...not sure about the taillight but all in all it's coming along pretty sweet can't wait for the next one
Josh that 32 Ford tail light is going to be awesome
No one who's scared of bugs will nick your bike now.
Why dose my mind go to the dudes cane from Jurassic park the first one. Looks awesome though.
Bryce Lynch “life finds a way”
@@davesleyer9393 he's spared no expense
Bryce Lynch lmfao
State bird shifting knob very nice!
Gotta get on that cbx cant wait to hear it
I used to run a side mount on a bike. I had to carry extra tail light bulbs with me as it was a bulb killer. Tried rubber mounts too, good luck.
That drill press looks like a game changer , you seem to be able to make decent custom spacers and whatnot. Who needs a lathe !
Cool shifter knob bro. Keep getting after it.
I spent all day dicking around w my license plate and tail light. This video inspired me to pick up the wrenches again at 2am. Thanks lol
I like the knob, and the two into one pipe looks cool, now I wish I still had my copys of BSH
Oh yeah and hey let ol Shadetree take that CBX for a spin!
Feels good to fabricate your own parts and to tell ppl that you yourself done it. I bought a pan seat for my Sportster and the mounting kit was $200. I said f_ck that so I built my own.
Good job dude. Doing well and learning fast.

lookin good keep it up. shifter is sweet.
Really coming together now
I wanna see ol' shadetree stuck in the cbx sidecar!
Nice work...I think Dime city should let me test ride that bike when its done.
i always loved choppers that had the break light on the sissy bar and your seat looks wide enough the plate wont stick out. mock it up shadetree i think it would look sick. keep the bike narrow.
the music reminds me of safety training videos at work...
Nice work bro, Nice video, ride safe
Loving the shit outta this build series, from a bike builder and mechanic keep up the good work bud. And you gotta ride that cbx a amazing bikes
Enjoying this build series had a 81 650 special super reliable motors. Going to look awesome when it's finished, shift knob looks cool would have been funny though if it was a black Widow....from the any which way movles for those who are too young.
Yes, would like that CBX.
Looks really good. You might want some kind of safety wire so when that flimsy bracket breaks you don't lose your plate
Two into one intake is a good idea,I,m not so sure about it sticking right out the side,,but your choice,, years ago I had a BSA 650 Thunderbolt,,which was the cheap BSA 650,,and yeah it had a single carb,, it was alot less bother then the twin carb versions and better mpg and not much slower.

more happy video! Dime City, gotta let STS make a vid with the CBX.
I can't wait to see the carb setup, gonna look mad! :-)
When you get to it, try to properly mount the rectum fryer under the seat.
Coming together nicely. Use some oil when you're tapping though, it will make it a lot easier and the threads will cut cleaner. Also it looks like the switch springs is catching the frame. Your welds are starting to look better, not by much...but it's an acquired skill. Shift knob is killer though.

Ps. Let shadetree ride the cbx
I hope you get to cruise the CBX. I like the way you hid the actuator, that's a way cleaner look.
That Palmetto bug looks like Rodan.
I have owned XS650s for 25 years and it has literally never occurred to me to put a single carb on. I've been riding TR6 Triumphs for the same amount of time and I am 100% a disciple of the 1 carb bike.
