Our view of life on a Southern plantation during the infamous period of the slave trade (the 18th and 19th centuries) has been shaped by films like Gone with the Wind. However, it's still possible to get a true insight into plantation life by visiting one of the many surviving properties dotted across the Southern States of the USA.
In this video we take you on a guided tour of Magnolia Plantation outside Charleston, South Carolina. Many visitors come here to admire the magnificent gardens, which have been cultivated over many decades. Charleston tour guide Michael Juhasz shares some of the history of the property and describes what guests can expect during their visit.
