Mike, I really enjoy watching your videos and learn a lot from them. I would appreciate if you can provide me the link for masking tape you used. Also, how can I find out laser kerf for 60 W with 2" lens on Speedy 100?
Hi Manoj, thank you for the kind words! If you're in Canada you can order it from us here: www.engraving-supplies.ca/laser-engraving-accessories/tapes-velcro-adhesive/mask-medium-tack-8-in.html . What do you mean how to find the laser curf?
Mike, I live in USA. Is there a different link for masking tape for US website? You mentioned around 3:45 on video that size of the acrylic has to be adjusted for the kerf of the cut on the wood so it will fit. (5000 with contour of 2). I am wondering if that stays the same if 2" lens is installed.
Best thing to do is to call our US office and ask them - 844 529 0730. If you're using a bigger lens then yes the curf will be thicker and you will need to expand the contour a bit. We would suggest to test it out on 1 letter or a small shape to see how it will fit, adjust the contour based on how well it fits and then once you're satisfied apply it to the full job.
Marcel Steens hi Marcel, you should never cut or engrave PVC as it emits chlorine gas when lasered. Our Fiber lasers can directly mark and engrave stainless steel yes. What country are you in?
Interesting, but.... I could use a flatbed inkjet printer to print on clear acrylic, then put it in a wood frame and achieve the same thing waaaay easier, faster, and cheaper. Seems like a long way around the barn to me. But as an example of what's possible, it's interesting.
@@haakono You're correct about the capital expense of a wide format printer, though there are many that can be had for far less. But the real option is that every city has multiple existing people in that business who could do it fast and for reasonable $'s
Good job! May I ask, what is that paper that you used to mask your wood? Is there a specific brand that you used? I would imagine that it is a low-tac adhesive paper, so when it is peeled off it will not leave an adhesive film on your work surface, correct? Why not use it on the acrylic piece also? Thank you, and again. Nice work!
+Manuel Villalpando Hi Manuel, thank you for the kind words. It's regular painters mask, like an extra wide masking tape, if you're in Canada we sell this product. Low-tac adhesive paper, exactly. We don't get burn marks on acrylic like we often do with wood, the mask is there to protect the wood. Some like the burn marks to give it a more rustic look, it depends on what you are looking to achieve. Thank you for your comment and questions!
+Trotec Canada: Thank you again. I live in Downey, California. I was able to find the masking tape at my local hardware store. Unfortunately for me, I am deciphering the User Interface of a Chinese laser machine that I bought through a big online vendor. The laser machine was riddled with problems since the first day it arrived. I have tried litigation in order to get my money back but the judge here in my area would not allow me to get judgement, so I am stuck fixing and learning a new software plug-in called CoreLaser. The next time around, I am going with buying a Trotec Laser Machine or an Epilog. Thanks for the tips on your videos, I am sure I will learn more from watching your techniques and approach styles to your projects.
+Andres Gonzales Hi Andres, thanks for your comment. It's standard masking tape or painter's tape, just a wide roll, which can be taken off easily without leaving any glue marks. They can be found at any hardware store.
We recommend 100 power, about 0.2-0.3 speed and 500 PPI. Make sure you have a strong ventelation and you should cover up the table where there is no material (in order to get even better suction and reduce flaming). Always test out a small square to get the best results before proceeding with the full job.
Sorry not in Canada unfortunately, but I have been looking at different materials like that masking to improve the quality of my laser engravings and cuts.
Hi, can I see material spec sheets on the wall in your shop? I work at a school and would like to have something similar, are they available from Trotec? (we do have a Trotec machine)

Are you using glue on the Acrylic to keep it from being pushed out later?
Nope, don't need to, with countouring (in CorelDraw) or offset path (in Illustrator) you can squeeze it in to stay for good.

Hi Mike, nice job! How thick is the wood you are cutting. What power laser and settings did you use? Cut power cut speed.
