    I recall when Andre was going over the order spec on the TRX , there were countless people telling you guys it was a mistake to not order the $500 surround cam system on the TRX.
    We all knew you would take it to places like this, and would regret not having surround cams. Looked like Tommy found the front cam very helpful especially on that slick rock climb.

      The sight lines on the raptor are actually pretty good offroad. I did a steep climb last week and could actually see where I was going. I use the cams mostly for maneuvering around in tight spaces. These trucks are so big on the trail the cameras are super nice to have.

      Same. Very capable and it looks a little meaner than the TRX in my opinion. Currently have a 5.7 Ram and even though the TRX is probably out of my budget range, I’m not sure I’d be quick to buy another RAM. I’ve been trying to get my hands on a 2nd gen Raptor for the past month because I really want one, but they’re so hard to find. The only thing I’d genuinely miss is the sound of that Hemi.

      @@arx4-571 The 5.7 is no slouch either! My mindset with the 2nd gen Raptor has always been it sounds cool anyway just because the fact it is a Raptor! A little immature mindset? Maybe, but it sure makes you care less about the v8!

      @arx4-571 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chieffan2525 true, I drove one and the ecoboost completely blows the 5.7 out of the water. My main issue with my RAM is the BW44-44 t-case (with the 4WD auto feature, only one you can get in Europe unless it's a rebel) isn't great off-road at all and got me stuck in a pretty nasty spot where a truck with a true 4WD Lock would've gotten me out.
      This + the bad transmission programming (transmission itself is great, a lot of cars have a ZF 8-speed over here), the ticking lifters, ... I just started looking for something new and always loved the Raptor, lol!
      I'm a little hesitant because TFL announced they'll show off the new one in February (maybe with a V8), but I always loved the 2nd gens.
      A V8 rumble really adds to the driving experience for me, I know it sounds so incredibly stupid. But on the other hand you get a so much more capable truck, so... it's tough lol!

      @@arx4-571 I do believe the V8 Raptor will be priced more like the TRX. Honestly I just can't wait for the Gen 3s to come out to shake the market on pricing for Gen 2s. They hold their value to the point where its gonna be 5 years til they are relatively affordable

    • @arx4-571
      @arx4-571 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chieffan2525 you're right, good point... that'd suck. It doesn't need to be a 700 hp V8 truck though, it's a lot of fun but no one needs that.
      And yes, trucks hold value like crazy over here as well. My RAM with about 80k miles if I converted that correctly is still worth about €32K if I trade it in, probably more if I'd sell it. Was new just under €50K.
      Raptors are even crazier, even the 1st gens are still incredibly pricey where I live!

    Torsen is simple. A ring gear can’t turn a pinion gear. It has a couple sets of gears inside the diff housing. It will operate like an open diff when a tire is completely off the ground but in any other instance it effectively locked. So in theory it will need less brake force (than an open diff) to keep the wheels locked together if a tire comes off the ground. It is superior to a limited slip because it doesn’t require clutches.

    The simplest explanation of a Torsen is that it's a limited locking device. i.e. within a certain torque split range, it acts as locked. if I had to guess, I would say it's 2.1-2.5:1 Torque bias ratio, meaning a locking effect of around 40%, so if the torque difference is no greater than 40% between wheels, the differential acts locked through friction on specially designed gears that bind up against the housing. Another way to put it would be that the front axle can bias torque 70/30 to the left or 30/70 to the right, to the limit of traction on the good wheel. With an open diff, it's always 1:1, or 50/50. I know that's usually how people talk about locked diffs, but that's not accurate, a locked diff is 100/0. An open diff will always split torque evenly. That's not engine torque mind you, that's the torque the ground can deal with, or resistive torque. That's why a wheel in the air with an open diff spins and the other on the ground doesn't. Air offers no resistive torque so that's all the other side gets...just as much torque as it takes to spin a wheel in free air. 1:1. 50/50. In a Torsen, the wheel in the air would still spin freely because you are outside the locking range of the diff and where it allows for differential action. Torsens are great because they offer virtually no reaction lag, are completely passive and allow for great streetability and predictable high-speed characteristics while dramatically increasing traction in their locking range. It's a solid 1 up for the Ford.

The TRX has more power, coil springs, and a rear axle dampener that attaches to the diff housing. The TRX has more suspension travel. The only thing the Raptor did well was the hill climb due to visibility. Even THAT was a stretch because they refused to buy the camera package (TRX) that the Raptor has. Not to mention the Raptor interior is ass. Sounds like shit too but that's my opinion. Just rewind and watch the reaction during the dune run. Its obvious which truck was more fun to drive.

    Boy, the undercarriage shots on the high-speed section really show off the benefits of 5 link. You can see how much better the axle is located on the TRX versus the Raptor which starts to experience axle windup, especially along the long axes. I don't know if you can feel it, but the video shows it. I guess the raptor has the advantage of no sagitta because it doesn't have a panhard rod so the axle doesn't shift left to right as it cycles up and down. Pros and cons.
