GREEN VALLEY 2022 - Moog Minitaur Analog Bass Monosynth Performance

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 30 ก.ย. 2024
- Sequenced entirely on one monophonic Arturia Keystep Pro track, played through the Moog Minitaur, into a gratuitous yet essential series of delays and reverbs courtesy of Valhalla DSP - an experiment with what can be done LIVE in realtime with one monosynth (and some help from a plugin or two)
The Minitaur was my first analog synth, and I love finding new ways to explore what it's capable of doing by itself, and what it's capable of doing in concert with other hardware and software!
This is one of the best Minitaur(solo) performance I've ever heard... WOW
Yessss!!! A really good piece!!!
I don’t know, there was a little detuned jam on the Sirin that Loopop put out that was great even though it was short 😅

Agreed
Phenomenal atmosphere
Amen to that! Definitely the best, even in terms of recording quality.
Sometimes I just need a hit of analog sound, nothing else. This is the best I've found
💯
Can this device generate its own sounds(?), or are you generating noise from another device and feeding it into the Moog/Minitaur to then bassify it(?) - Please let me know, as this might be on a purchase shortlist. - Thanks.
I’m still getting my head around the amazing range of Moog stand alone boxes. This is the first I’ve heard of the Minotaur, but it’s definitely made it onto my “wanna” list.
That was beautiful. Sat here in silence with the headphones on the entire time. Such a warm fat bass that Minitaur. The GAS is strong in this one.
Thank you for this moment. Great jam on every level, but mostly for manifesting a clear vision. All the creative aspects are aligned!
this is wild. i've had the minituaur for years and i just use it in the studio for plunky bass hits. thanks for sharing and would love if you could elaborate on your FX chain as it's not easy to have something where delay and reverb are driving the sound like that come out so clean!
Definitely run it through Supermassive for a whole new world of possibilities!
Beautiful stuff, I’m inspired to get my Minitaur out now and explore it some more!
My gosh.. such a beautiful sound and wonderful performance!
Nice work on these sounds and textures. A lot can be done with a simple mono synth and good fx.
this sounds so great and inspiring! 🙌👍👍👏👏
One of the best videos with Minitaur I have ever seen. 🖤🖤
Stunning. Thank you for creating & sharing. Groove on. 🎛🎧👑🎵🔊💎
Would be curious to know about your sequenced pattern? Sounds awesome!
I bought a Minitaur but just can't replicate these bass sounds ☹️
~ cool, greetings from germany ~
May I ask how you sequenced this? :) I love it, thank you so much!
Arturia Keystep Pro, one track, one midi channel!
Very inspiring, thanks 🤩
Damn. Minitaur was my first Moog and my 3rd synth. Got it right when it came out. Did yours come with an "all your bass are belong to us" bumper sticker too? lol
Sadly no!
I hear this literally ALL THE TIME and it blows my mind!
this is so good. Pls make a video of your process.. from patterns, to sound design and all. So many people would love that. Thank you
Thanks for the feedback! I’m thinking about doing a livestream soon!
I understand but the question was more if you use it in this video and if you prefer Minitaur vs Sirin
Aren’t they almost the same
All this question because i whant to buy one or the other
Thanks
I'm not using it in the video - the sounds you are hearing come exclusively from the Minitaur, processed primarily with Valhalla. It's blinking because it's connected and receiving the same midi signal that the Minitaur is receiving. I would recommend the Sirin as it will give you a complete range of octaves - the Minitaur is exclusively a bass synth, and does not play higher notes beyond a certain octave.
That's so moody and deep sounding - awesome !
Tremendous thanks for sharing! Would love a patch building master class 🎉
Curious, why the Sirin in the background
"because it was there"
are delay and reverb here in parallel or in series? The delay seems quite clean, while the ambient background is there... so it seems parallel.
Delay hits first, feeds into the reverb. I'm mostly relying on Valhalla Supermassive here...
❤
😮 just… wow… this is so beautiful and inspiring, sometimes it takes exactly this to expand one’s perception of what’s possible
Oooh yes … what a great sound you have there 🔥
Amazing, never got this out of my Minitaur. It's inspiring me to use it again.
Thanks for posting this, sounds great!
Honestly sometimes I wish I never sold my minitaur to go towards a subsequent37, I miss the simplicity of it a lot sometimes. It's easy to get a sweet spot on the sub37 for sure, but it's even easier on the minitaur. Watching this makes me wanna sell the sub and grab a minitaur again!
I sold my Minitaur when buying a Subsequent 25. I just re-bought the Minitaur 😅
The Minitaur is such a great synth. Too bad Moog decided to limit its range up to C4 and below. From C4 and up all notes played are the same.
Man this is really beautiful !
This is incredible. This really made things click together in my head on how to effectively use these.
This was very impressive
I am trying to not buy a minitaur, this is not helping at all ...
Do it. You know you want one.
Great performance. Didn’t expect, that this piece of gear sounds soooo fantastic 🖤🎶🙌🏽🎛️🎚️
Simply fantastic! Brutal low end! 😮

sounds fantastic 👍
Where you geht the wooden on the Sites?
These were built by Noizzi Hardwood, available at reverb.com/shop/noizzihardwood - highly recommended, excellent craftsmanship!
THAT IS GREAT! Can you share the settings of the reverb/delay and plugins you used? I have the Supermassive and the UADs but I can't seem to get the same spacey and warm sound. Thank you!
I don’t know of a way to post screenshots on here, or all the details of every setting on every instance of every plugin, but I can tell you that I used one instance of Supermassive for the delay and another one for the “reverb” - Supermassive is doing a LOT of things at once and back when I filmed this performance I had found it easier to rely on multiple instances of it to perform different roles than trying to get it all right with one preset. Now I could probably get away with just doing one instance per track. As for the UAD stuff, I don’t rely on them much or push them hard. Just run the preamp plugin and gently push the knob a little. The 610 and 1073 are my favorites with the Minitaur.
@@analogmission que es supermasive?

@@georgeohara7611 maybe he refers to the valhalla supermassive reverb plugin!
This is so good!
Excellent mate! Where did you find those wooden side panels may I ask?
Noiizzy Hardwoods on Reverb!
Damn just been to eBay and the one of these I was eyeing up has gone. Hate that that just makes me want one more!
I have the doepfer dark energy which is single oscillator reckon it would team up great with the minitaurs 2
I don't see why you couldn't do something similar to this with the Doepfer, a sequencer, and a nice long delay synced to the tempo of your piece!
How do you get the S&H from the LFO? or am I misinterpreting the LED?
I might have not answered the first part of your question - S&H was added via firmware update to the Minitaur by Moog a few years ago. It's accessible by hitting the SHIFT (glide) button and turning the LFO rate knob to the right
Massive little guy sounds like fun
Looks like a Moog Sirin in the background playing as well.
It's connected, but it's silent... it will get its turn to shine as a solo instrument soon enough!
hell yeah!! some new minitaur content 🤘
I loved the sounds and performance
Very good jam. I love Moog Minitaur
How would you compare the bass of Minitaur to that of Siring? Identical?
Playing the Sirin feels and sounds like playing a Minitaur, with the bonus of having access to the upper octaves in the Sirin. The Minitaur does not play high notes, and this limits it to the bass octaves. I love the sound of the Minitaur but I would rather have a second Sirin.
@@analogmission I hear you. Am asking because I'd been eyeing Sirin for a long time, so long in fact that I started thinking about getting the Taurus instead. Luckily two days ago I got one for $600, not cheap I know, but they are quickly becoming classic so their value is bound to increase.
@@analogmission yes 2 sirins is a beautiful thing
In a direct comparison video I found the oscillators of the older Minitaur to be a little more beefy and alive. I found it's a general
development for several newer Moog oscillator designs to
become a little more static and boring. It's subtle, but it has some noticable effect on me. So, the Sub37 is gone and I'm eyeing the Minitaur.
@@marcusfreeweb It's probably the same video I saw. :) Yeah, I thought the Minitaur's square wave was ever so slightly beefier than the Sirin's. However, IIRC the Sirin's square wave looked closer to the theoretical ideal on the spectrum analyzer. Their sawtooth waves were virtually identical. Both were better than the Sub37, which sounded a little thin and sterile in comparison (but still very good compared to most other synths).
very good sound! around 1:04 what parameter do you play to get that rolling bass sound?
That is a dotted eighth note delay, my friend!
@@analogmission did you automate the delay?
@@voodoornb I set the Keystep Pro and Logic to the same tempo when I create these.
Inspiration and power
is this something thats used with the dfam?
or is the dfam just a more advanced gear?
I wouldn't say one is more "advanced" than the other, but I would certainly say both will play vastly different roles in the creation of music. I have a DFAM and have only barely scratched the surface of what it's capable of.
This is amazing! One of the best synth demos on TH-cam. Wow. Would really appreciate understanding a bit of how you sequenced this piece with the keystep pro, changing parts, etc. I haven't worked with the keystep yet. Your transitions were so natural, easy to lose oneself in the music
The Keystep is super easy to program. I write each pattern individually and switch between them to make sure they flow smoothly from one section to the next before I arrange the patterns into a chain and perform.
Fantastic demo. Love it !!!
Great job dude! Gettin one!
Shades of Kraftwerk!
This is a great performance , which can be easily a soundtrack for a John Carpenter's movie
Please, make for us a video showing how you've done it
Once again , congratulations
Some other folks have commented on the "Carpenter" vibe of these tracks. I wasn't intentionally trying to rip him off, but I sure do appreciate the compliment!
This is very cool - sounds delicious.
sounds awesome 😎
How did you play high notes on it? I thought those were disabled
This composition includes the highest note capable of being played. You're likely hearing some harmonic stuff added by Supermassive...
wow fantastic sound - nice
Amazing! 🎉
damn and the siren casually sitting in the back 🤩
Lovely!
This is fucking brilliant.
beautiful performance 👏
100% Awesomeness! 🔥👍🏻
Great use of the instrument! Very different format…love it!!!
Great performance! Love it!

Wowww !! This is a great performance !
Rad!
Lovin' this! Thanks,
Absolutely beautiful!
Are you rocking 2 of these bass beasts?
The synth in the background is the Moog Sirin
I mean, tasty as hell man, nice!
What was the Sirin doing in the background? Was obvs in some capacity involved even if not producing a sound
P.s. John Carpenter wants his music book back...
It's blinking because it was receiving the same midi signal as the Minitaur - didn't know it at the time, but I had them set up on the same channel... The Sirin is not heard in this piece.
@@JonR78 John Carpenter has proven to be a HUGE influence on my synth music!
Cool video. The Minitaur is a nice little synth.
What’s triggering the notes?
Arturia Keystep Pro (not shown in the video)
Great performance and solid composition.
What was the sequence?
Aside from posting a video of bleeps and bloops, I don’t know how to describe it. It begins very simple, with just a couple of bass notes from the Minitaur repeating into a delay provided by Supermassive. This gives the track a rhythm in the bass line. Then, in the spaces in the sequence BETWEEN the bass notes, I wrote out the melody part. In the busiest sections of the song, most of the notes between the bassline notes are occupied with melody notes.
The Minitaur is only capable of playing one midi note at a time, so writing bass and melody lines into one track (a series of patterns programmed into the keystep pro) must be done as a alternating series of beeps and bloops and then dumped into the delay for rhythmic development. I hope this makes sense!

Great
Awesome track. Congrats👏

Great demo! thanks a lot!
Really nice,sounds great!
What type of sequencer do you need to run the moog?
Any midi sequencer with usb or 5-pin connection should drive it just fine
amazing...
İ like it so much...
REALLY great track!
very nice deep sound really enjoyed!
Great Sound, thank you
Do you have a high quality download on this one?
If there’s any interest in this I could make it available on Bandcamp!
