Also, I'm 31 years old and have to say I was the same with high school. The academics werent easy and I wasn't the best student but I made it! Actually, my sister did really poorly in school but made Dean's List in college because she was studying what SHE was interested in - not what she was being forced to study.

Good lord girl- you are a force of nature! You're 16 going on 27. You are a wise soul... you just came across it earlier than most people do. Please continue sharing yourself with the world, we have a lot to learn from people like you who "dig deep" and apply those perspectives to everyday life.

@@_sydney.fowler_ My bestfriend has been paralyzed and in a wheelchair for 35 years. We've been bestfriends for 22 years now and I'm just now commenting on your videos today. We've binge watched all your videos in the last few days. Terri( my bestie) just adores you!!! The Drs told her that she probably wouldn't live past 40. We both just turned 60 and have had the best time ever!!! She has done things that " normal " people would only dream of. We live in Alaska and we are going to the hot springs next month because she finally got the surgery to get rid of the pressure sores( big ones) shes suffered from for many years now. We had to travel to Seattle to get the surgery. And now she can finally get into water without worrying about getting any bacteria in the sore!!! No more sores!!! Thank God! We know you'll do wonderful things in your life!!!

You have such a bright out look on life itself. And a sense of calm and quiet confidence, all while being vulernable but seeing all your emotions and experiences as being ok whether they may be labeled as "positive" or "negative". Its really remarkable, you seem more grounded and just, the priorities and mindset you have is way beyond your years. Im 28 and you say things that are full of insights and realizations that are literally deeper than some people 10 years older than you if not more. The emotionl maturity and just ability to have the perspectives you have gotten at such your age is something else. Appreciate your candid answers and just you being you. All the best Sydney.

You are such a strong young lady. I commend you for your strength. As a parent, I would really like to hear your parents pov on your condition. Would they be willing to do a video telling the story from their pov? I’m curious to hear what their story entails because I know that I definitely need to make it a priority to listen to my children more and be a better activist for their concerns and not just blow it off. Not saying at all that your parents did that but I guess I’m just curious to hear how they felt and what was going on in their minds during all of this.
You are such a breath of fresh air and I’d hope my children would look at situations they face in life as brave as you do. 😊

I’m not paralyzed but I do have a medical condition that requires me to be a lot more mature about everything. It gets really hard sometimes but I have found a way to still be myself and kinda like the other people my age. While also being able to take care of myself. Also, I just found your channel yesterday and I’m obsessed. You're talking about inner strength, character, personal knowledge and awareness. You are addressing things in your life that most people take many, many years of living to develop slowly overtime. They've never experienced many of the things you are, that you must go through. But you and your friends can still share other things with each other. Also, there are some friends who will stay with you, learning a lot by you, through your experiences. They're special and I'm sure you know some like that. Patience, communicating, and understanding regarding your differences and different points of view can help. These things you are learning and dealing with are very useful throughout your whole life. The skills are used all over the place. Thanks for sharing your feelings and thoughts with us, as it helps us all grow and become better people who are stronger for it. You're pretty amazing Sydney!

Hi Sydney. I think the word you're looking for at the beginning of the video is "grace". On the days that you have a bad attitude and you're feeling negative and you lash out at those around you, you need to extend grace to yourself. Recognize that isn't how you normally are and that it will change. But just as you would extend grace to a friend who was having a bad day you need to do the same for yourself. Also, do not compare yourself to others. There will always be someone whose situation is worse than your own but that does not invalidate your own feelings and your own experience. So validate your experience and your feelings. Take care. 💖

You look so familiar Sydney but I’m 23! So i wouldn’t or probably wouldn’t know you. I have extremely. Severe (everything! Lol) chronic Lyme disease and babesiosis and in a way I can relate to you so much despite the fact I’m not paraplegic thank goodness because I am a singer and dancer and if I lost this or any thing most people take for granted I’d mentally be devastated too the brink of no return. I have no friends- I listened to you’re story about how you became paralyzed and also watched you make Mac n cheese and this and I thought you were my age. You are so much like me! I was only 13 when I started my first of many clothing lines, 18 when I released my first fragrance and 20 when I got a better manufacturer in Milan, for both my shoe line and fragrances! You know I don’t know if you dyed you’re hair or did something with you’re makeup differently but you look so beautiful. I want to send you my first fragrance with a special card attached, and when the record label gets them produced I’d love to send you my debut (redebut because I had one before but it wasn’t the person I am today and by the way the bottle I want to send you is my last one until renovations are done in Milan.) You are gonna go far in life, you are gonna be a star. Remember this, when you get sad and need a pity party by all means take but only two days and get back together with life as we have to continue on this is our life and it’s a movie! In the making if we can allow it.
Message me you’re mailing address and just so you know I’m not some weirdo online my Instagram is @matthewdeckerofficial and I am verified on Facebook! Have a great day sunshine xoxoxox

You will walk again. You have being young on your side plus all the progress science has been making with spinal cord injuries. I broke my T5, 4 ribs and crushed my left shoulder. As the CJ5 Jeep was flipping over I put my arms over my head and they said that’s what saved my life. While I laid in the hospital bed flat on my back not able to even read a book or use my left arm the news came on. They said all CJ5 Jeeps have been recalled as they flip over doing 25 miles an hour and making a minor evasive move. The wheel base was too narrow and it was too tall making it top heavy. Like you I said “what if they had recalled them last month”. The what ifs do nothing. 80% of the people in the passenger seat were killed and the remaining were paralyzed. I was the first to walk away. The pain was horrific, but I don’t need to explain over the moon pain to you. I didn’t have spinal surgery as they hoped I would start throwing bone and it would heal normally. I did eventually have 2 surgeries on my shoulder over the years. I live in pain daily and finally reached the point I couldn’t take it anymore. I had 3 disc replace in my neck last May and have to have 2 more disc replaced in my low back as one has collapsed ad I have spinal stenosis. I can’t wait to have that surgery as it’s gotten so bad I can’t do things I’ve been able to do. The Neuro Dr said I could do everything I did before, except not racquetball. It wouldn’t do damage to my injuries I’d just probably in big time pain after doing the activity, but to give in to the pain and not remain athletic would make me an invalid. So I took up tennis, was snow skiing 18 months later, did my walking and worked out at the gym. Naturally I would have over the top pain afterwards but I sure had fun doing the activities. I remember being in that tube for scans and that hard surface. I totally could relate to your same experience. I was married and we eventually had a family, which was also painful but worth it. I’ve been able to live with my injuries and several herniated disc for 30 years. I put off spine surgery as long as I could. I look better than 90% of my high school friends at class reunions because I wouldn’t give up and had a Neuro Dr that wouldn’t pamper me or give me pain meds. I was in a huge back brace for over 7 months and he wouldn’t even give me a handicap placard. He said I want you to walk not baby yourself. I can thank him for not treating me with kid gloves. Think of all I would have missed if I’d let the pain rule my life. The pain has finally won and I’m eager to get the (hopefully) final surgery. If it reduces my daily pain by 20% it will be worth all the months of recovery. Keep up your physical therapy as that’s what got me back up and going. If I hadn’t been an athlete I’m sure I would have been one of Jeeps bad statistics. Once I was home from the hospital I was in a hospital bed at home for another month. He wanted me walking every day and I did. I’d be shaking and have to stop several times but I pushed on. Once I was given the go ahead I started doing laps at the gym pool with a paddle board and sit-ups on my bed. I think I was so naive I didn’t really think I wouldn’t be limited and it would get better (the pain). I’m glad I didn’t know what was to come or I might have given up and where would I be today. Sooooo, keep the great attitude you have. Having been athletic works in your favor. I know in my heart you will walk again and regain a lot of which you lost. Just keep persevering and do even more than what the Dr say. I did after getting the ok to do certain activities. Keep on keeping on. Hearing your story gave me hope as I face my next surgery. Keep telling your story. Julia
