Just a thought but maybe some of those old pubs in Sheffield might allow you to film such as crown in white lion Heeley others in Chestfield etc . It allows you to give the histrionic aspects what they were in the past and how they may run things differently today . Compare drinks of the past to what's on today etc ? :)
I went to shirebrook pit when Whitwell closed, it's hard to imagine where it all was now with sports direct on the old site..we remember shirebrook market being big, but not these days, still a great place though, down to earth friendly people Tim.👍😂
Morning Sam hope you are both well. Still really feels like a Pit village, but I am guessing the town centre extended much further outside the inner market area. I have a video of the Sports direct site as well, looked hell to me. I wish I had gone in the morning as Shirebrook is much bigger than I thought. Best Tim
Shirebrook is where, the incredibly talented, John Hur, ''Elephant Man,t came from. His father was the local vicar. Donald Pleasence was born in Worksop.
I thought Pleasance was Donny. But I was in the Wetherspoons in Worksop Thursday night and couldn't understand why he was looking down at me in the pub.
@@timawellsHope you had a good night out. Donald was born in Worksop. His father was, a stationmaster. For the railway, they moved to Swinton Near Rotherham. I have heard, he was born, on George Street near Worksop railway station. There isn't even a plaque. His brother, lived in Conisbrough, near the castle. The Liquorice Gardens, named after the Licerice fields in Carlton Worksop. They called The Old Spanish..
The Mining Memorial was put in place last year ( April 2023) 30 years after Shirebrook Colliery was closed. It was organised by a committee which included the former Shirebrook NUM Secretary, Alan Gascoigne. There was a well attended ceremony followed by a march up to the Welfare with NUM banner and brass band ( see Shirebrook Memorial on youtube). The building on the corner of the marketplace was a pub as you guessed. It was The Drum. Where you walked down the hill to the market place, opposite The Old Bank ( which was a pub for a while) was the Great Northern pub, named after the railway which used to run through the town. Another pub, The Swan, was where Lidl is now. Carrying on past Lidl up the hill, the Station Hotel was on the left corner of the junction. There was also The Sunmit pub on a housing estate. Shirebrook also had a Locomotive Depot next to the railway station which was shut when there was no coal for the locos to move. You could see Shirebrook Colliery headstocks from the car park near the market place.
Thanks for all the info Catherine. Like everywhere its had its soul removed as the globalists move in. Same where I live. Why was the memorial vandalised?
It's Glen actually on Catherine's phone. I didn't realise it had been vandalised until I came across this video. Can't think why anyone would do it. We are from Warsop which has suffered a similar fate as Shirebrook and most other mining villages across Britain.
@@retrorambles517 I have to disagree, they employ 3 people, 3 in each store. Who run around like headless chickens, stacking shelves to race to open a till, 'checkout 3 is opening' as soon as you go on that till, 'checkout 3 is closing!' Because they have to race off to finish packing shelves. They employ bare bone minimum staff for the size of the shop, every town centre now looks the same thanks to these. Shutters then a German supermarket 👍
Shirebrook is a town in North East Derbyshire, governed by Bolsover District Council. Sports Direct have their HQ located on the former site of Shirebrook Colliery. The town is known to have a large demographic of Polish nationals that make up the local population. A large housing development has been underway around the south west of the town for several years. Areas of interest nearby include Creswell Crags and Welbeck Abbey (The Dukeries).

Same with Dinnington where I live, a town of two half's as the middle class also moved in while others are stuck. More jobs than when the pit was there but the jobs rarely go to the local people. @@richardwarren537

Heaven help them, an Aldi and a Lidl!
I'm not a fan of either but they provide much needed jobs in the area

I have worked in Tesco, half of the staff work hard the other half shirk. Management used to walk around all day chatting or have meetings.
I used to work with a girl named Mellissa Seabrook? Who’s family owned the petrol station next to ALDI.
Esso
I was doing cricket at school
Tim please forgive my ignorance but where is Shirebrook please? Thankyou in advance.
Its close to Mansfield but in Derbyshire Amanda.
Thankyou Tim ❤

A Turkish barbers!
I stick to my English barber's and go every 2 months for beard trim and tidy
I am disappointed I forgot to identify the Turkish barbers Richard, they must be there. Very seedy with certain gangs hanging around
