That Mom doesnt seem to know what she is doing. Video starts and the baby is peeing while Mom is trying to figure out the end of the babys tail and then she goes to the pee hole to figure that out. The baby finally squirms its way up and looks at Mom like what the hell are you doing? Even after baby is done she keeps going back to checking out the pee hole and the end of the tail. Mom needs to clean up the pee mess.

This is done for different reasons. 1. to clean them, 2. To stimulate them to go poo and pee. When you are in the hospital after you have a baby, not only are they monitoring the moms her bowl movements , and urine but also babies, it is all recorded. This stimulating for baby to get things to work this young is an instinct for Mom to do it, also eating and cleaning every thing including the plasenta.

Not with this species. This species does not need stimulation to urinate or defecate. There are other species as well as many other types of animals that do, but these guys are good to go, and fully developed in that way, from birth.

It affords them many privileges that are special to infants and calls attention to the fact that they are infants and need to be looked after more carefully. Also, in primates like this, it makes them very attractive to other females (all of the females and sometimes some males also) therefore they receive a lot of attention. So yes, it is for their survival and a from of adaptation.

+ Bunny facer I am not sure if anyone ever answered your question directly or not but when young infants have a different colored coat than the adults it is referred to a "natal coat". It affords them many privileges that are special to infants and calls attention to the fact that they are infants and need to be looked after more carefully. Also, in primates like this, it makes them very attractive to other females (all of the females and sometimes some males also) therefore they receive a lot of attention. So yes, it is for their survival and a from of adaptation.

The mother must do what she is doing to the baby's genital area. It allows them to pee & poop. I took care of orphaned newborn kittens & had to simulate what this mother is doing- massaging daily with a warm washcloth. If it isn't done, the animal will die.
