That is a normal range of behaviors from mothers, not what you see from the Cambodian channels.
To Claire: Obviously you haven't watched enough monkey videos or are familiar with a mother monkeys teaching of her off spring, it is NOT ABUSE that you see it IS the way a mother monkey WEANS & DISCIPLINES her baby & older ones, QUESTION ? Does a human baby NURSE on his/her mother 24 hours a day, HELL NO AND NEITHER should a BABY MONKEY but they sure want to, and this is what you are seeing with a Mother monkey & Her young, the weaning process & teaching to obey her & the RULES of the troop.
I love when the mothers just stare at their new babies and lip-smack. It’s very human-like. Well not the lip-smacking, but the gazing and eye contact. That stops within the first month because eye contact is bad manners in monkey body language, and scientists only recently acknowledged that this is common between some macaque species and their newborns. The babies also imitate their mothers and lip-smack back, although this one is too little to do much yet but exist, suckle and cling.
I love the way they both gaze into each others eyes and she gives the baby tender little kisses... making me think those hairs on her lips may not be bristly at all !
Poor momma there's no grass or even a single thing to represent the wild just rock and wood. But she is making sure her baby is comfortable and warm. It's so loud anxiety is certainly a big problem with that type of environment.
just watched the videos of this mom and baby and I couldn't believe how much love you could see between the pair. I don't think I would have believed it had I not watched them with my own eyes.....just beautiful.

The baby face is still a little swollen and red from just being born, Poor mama she must be sore from just giving birth. Is it snowing? I see what looks like snow flakes just barely coming down, I wondered if it's cold there. She is a great mother.
I think they might be Japanese Snow Macaques. I don’t know anything about this zoo, but they don’t look cold to me. I do hope the mother has somewhere private to go.

What a horrible zoo. No grass just hot cement and feces everywhere. It probably smells horrible too. It is a sin they are not in a forest where they are supposed to be. Imagine if they captured us and kept us in that enclosure! Discusting! Poor things.
These places are the ideal ones to allow unscrupolous people to film them continually and get them very nervous. The music is terrible. Poor animals. If they are here, they can't live by themselves, if they are in private homes, it's because they have been stolen after their birth for profit and to get dressed as human babies. Authorities shouldn't permit such a lack of respect for nature and animals. They are not less important than humans. What a noise in the background. In documentaries and specialized magazines they write that monkeys doesn't like such a continuous presence of humans. Poor animals.
Baby is beautiful and I think he's loved very much...... And loves momma.......But here goes.......my feeling, since his birth is, that neither mom nor Baby feel very well Baby might be having seizures. Mother has some type muscle and/or nerve issues ...... Both seem extremely tired and don't get sleep. have been concerned how mom holds him so tight. He can't move. Sometimes I think his limbs and body get in a bind, his hands was asleep or pain ... that's when he starts getting restless. he needs to be able to stretch out some, Again this is My opinion, not trying to push it on anybody. just another thought. Hope all goes well for both, both have the sweetest faces. I'm sure I will have my heart with them
The baby isn’t having seizures lol. Infant monkeys make awkward jerky movements. It’s a reflex. Older babies also make seizure-like movements when they’re upset. It’s called geckering and it’s as normal as a human baby crying.
I have read a lot about the bad behaviour of people in these reservations, who always film these monkeys. Can you hear the sound of the engine of a moped? All this get the monkeys nervous and stresses. These are not scientific channels, but channels opened to have visualizations. Notice how disturbed is the mother monkey. Itvs all horrible, and the noise is done by men. Horrible. Authorities should punish these people. I will report it to PETA Asia immediately and the colleagues of my friends who works for the Cambodian Embassy. They make a lot of noise and this is not goos at all for these animals. Pure cruelty. Music, noise, engines,always filmed. Horrible.
If you think for one millisecond that PETA gives a damn about these or any other animals then you are messed up in the head. Look up how many cats and dogs they euthanize every year!! 🙄🙄

That baby is way to big to be one day old.
Nah, it looks and moves like a very young newborn. The redness and wrinkliness in the face, and the jerky movements are easy to spot.
Plus the mom seems to still be passing discharge that occurs after birth.
