I too really appreciate what you're doing. Love the channel, keep up the great work.
Will do! I'm glad you're finding the videos useful!
thanks for what you do. have a couple tbeams and will soon get some tdecks to try
Sure thing! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel!
I finally got around to ordering a T-Deck. Probably just as Lilygo is about to release a new device. *lol*
Thanks for the video.
Which one are they releasing ?
@@jeestin1172 I don't know that they are releasing anything. Just figured that since I ordered one they probably would. It seems to be the way it usually works for me.
Very well explained. 👍
Thanks! I might pick up a shell from PCBWay myself as well.
@@The_Comms_Channel That's right, since we talked I heard back from PCBWay, the story file from the repository was cleared for printing, I was able to move forward with the order. While the print will only cost me $3, the shipping is $12-$35. A bit much for a single item order. I'll probably see if I can find something else to add to the order to offset shipping.
In case there are other users stubbornly hanging on to Windows 7 machines, it has been a big problem to get Win 7 serial drivers to work correctly with the T-Deck USB.
After failing to get Win 7 to see a USB port other than an "FTDI Serial Device", I connected it to a Win 10 machine, downloaded the drivers, and had no further problems.
Also, I reported earlier that the Meshtastic website produced different output than the one used in this example, but that was when I was trying to get Win 7 to work with it.
But when I moved to the Windows 10 machine, the website looked identical to the example in this video, and produced identical output as the board was being flashed.
I thought only chrome browser would work
Its called tiny10 lol
Thanks this is a good project
Sure thing! I look forward to seeing how things progress.
I think this is the 1st vid walkthrough on something on the 1st try where I could pause have another window open without any rewinds asking myself wait wtf did he just do.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support! I hope your setup is going well!
Changing my name and short name, did not really change the shortname displayed in the top right corner of the screen on the T-Deck. On my configuration client page, my name has been saved and stays so after a reboot of the T-Deck? Flashed latest Alpha version as of today.
after flashing device it says "installation complete", turning it on and off does nothing to the device, it's dead, except for the blue light and my windows 10 comp makes the "disconnected" sound over and over, going back to connect shows the device (com) flashing on and off. I have tried redoing it and it keeps doing the same thing.
What happens when the screen is just blank, they say to use something called a CLI to "flash" software? Using something called "python" I tried but no luck. sorry if it's a dumb question.
Thanks
Thank you so much for the support!
Your videos have been super helpful! Appreciate your work!
Thank you Tom! I really appreciate the support and I'm glad you're finding the videos helpful!
I purchased T-deck and it is on the way now, I read that there is a warning on the documentation page "Do not proceed unless an antenna is connected to avoid possible damage to the device's radio." does the one come with the device ok to go ahead or should I buy a better antenna before doing it?
You can use the one that it comes with
Has anyone dealt successfully with the dreaded "Critical Fault #3" on their T-Deck? Had mine up and running great for a day, then this. (it was never powered up without an antenna btw)
how do you even get your private channel on the T-Deck? do you need to copy and paste the channel "link" into the web/phone app?
That is easier to configure via the phone app with the QR code. The web-based setup doesn't have as easy of a way to do this unfortunately.

@@The_Comms_Channel ahh alright thank you!
Sure thing!
Is the T-deck officially supported or is it in beta?
They do have support for the T-Deck. The functionality for stand-alone devices could use some improvement at the moment.
If you build one like in your other video and place on a pole outside your house how close does the Cell Phone need to be to connect via blue tooth? Can you still be in the house or need to be standing next to the pole ? If that makes since lol thanks
That makes total sense. This is one of the things about the WisBlock that makes it my favorite platform. It has an external antenna jack for bluetooth and comes with an antenna that has worked well for me. I'm able to pick it up throughout my house with the included antenna. Since it does have an antenna jack, you could even add a better bluetooth antenna to the outside of the enclosure for better range if needed.
@@The_Comms_Channel Thats very good!
@@FalconWing1813 Love the flexibility of them!
Hello, can the tdeck be paired with a phone and app like the t-echo, when wanted (ie, place in a pack and use phone)
Yep! It can also work as a paired device using a phone and the app.
@@The_Comms_Channeldo you have a video on pairing the TDeck? I just received mine, flashed the software, and I’m not able to update any of the settings. No idea how to connect to it in order to update settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@@Austin-Nes th-cam.com/video/HzddKyepqxA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LiW2l6UglkmjYfUC&t=277 This video should help! It shows the pairing process.
This does not work at all Tried it on 3 decks and it stays on "preparing" for hours
What web browser are you using?
Did you put the device in DFU mode? (Pushing in and holding the trackball while flipping the on switch on the device)
Did you select the correct COM port?
@@The_Comms_Channel Same issue here with 2 of mine. I'm using Edge, I do see the device popup and it's in DFU mode but just hangs on install since I purchased these months ago. Werid.
Very weird... Does it have the default firmware with the testing stuff on it?
@@The_Comms_ChannelNope, just the T-Deck UI thing. Frustrating as I bought two but neither will load. I haven't had issues with other products from them.
ESP32 Chip sync error esp_sync_blocking is the error just in case anyone runs into it!
I ordered one & I'm having trouble understanding this video.
Why wouldn't you have shown all of the important things involved???
Like I'm NOT even sure if I have to have a standalone battery hooked up? Or does it not matter if it's hooked up to the computer as it's possibly getting power from that? An unboxing video portion would've helped explain all of this.
Do I need a memory card installed in the TDeck?
Can you do all of this to a memory card that's installed in the computer & then transfer it to the TDeck?
I mean this video starts in the middle of shit without explaining any of this other shit.
There's no other shit to explain. Everything needed was explained in the video
@@The_Comms_Channel I'm watching a video explaining about GPS module he chose, the battery he chose, the case...
Would be nice to see info about what the TDeck requires to run.
I have 100 spare 18650 batteries, can you use them?
This guy soldered in a GPS board before he installed Meshtastic . Can you just plug in an external GPS after Meshtastic is already installed or does it need to be done before it's installed?
There's a shit ton of things.
My video is just meant to show how to flash the device; nothing more, nothing less.
