8'8" is only short for you because your form has your hands way out too the sides. I'm 6'4" and a 9.0" is almost too long for me. Gotta keep my hands out a little bit to compensate
RX RapidFit jump rope. It's built more so for tricks but is still fast and the best part is its adjustable. Meaning you can add or subtract the length of the rope and it only takes seconds to do. I mainly do a bunch of tricks but if you're into double unders only, this does not disappoint. It's by far the smoothest rope I ever bought from any company.

If cable is too long, can it be trimmed or do I have to buy a shorter one?
You could technically just trim it…would just need to crimp the end you cut.
What weight RX Smart rope is similar/same too RPM's rope? Planning to switch over and would like to to keep the same weight rope thanks.

No, I would recommend using a normal rx jump rope with buff cable if you’re learning
