    Lou Ekus is one of the most knowledgeable humans on the face of the earth when it comes to Reefing. I have watched every talk, video, and podcast I can find that he has done and I have learned so much from him. I would love to meet him one day. BRS is 100% correct to encourage people to look up Lou. I use exclusively Tropic Marin Products and am experimenting with some of the Carbon dosing products and Calcium Formate based one part dosing. Lou and Tropic Marin who also still employs Hans-Werner Balling I believe are really pushing the envelope on the modern reef tank and I'm glad to see Brs shedding some light onto it!

    I was dealing with high nitrates and switched to Bio-Actif and have had nothing but good results and amazing coral growth.

    Starting a new tank. I've mixed my water using Marin Pro. I'll want to up the alkalinity when I start adding coral. What are you using to up the alkalinity? Do I need to keep stored water heated?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To make adjustments, we suggest sodium bicarbonate. During our salt investigates series, we also found that Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt didn't require heat/circulation in storage.

    I just set up my tank 325 gallons tank and today I added the Tropic Marin pro salt I put in about 30kg of salt in about 2-3 hrs with max flow on the mp40's and m2 pump with a temperature of 78 and now the water is cloudy the salinity is reading 1.024 SG. Have I messed it up or will it come right on its own??

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In our test, we were able to get the Tropic Marin Pro Reef fully mixed right around the 8 hour mark. Give it a bit more time and it'll likely clear up. If it doesn't clear up in that time, you're probably dealing with a bacterial bloom. Again, time is the cure here. Just let it run it's course.

    Can you do a rotation of pro-reef, bio-actif & syn-biotic? If you are doing weekly water changes or should you just stick with 1 kind.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We would suggest picking one salt and sticking with it.

      We are working with vendors to fill those empty gaps, however many vendors (including businesses around the world in other industries) are struggling with supply in these current times. Just make sure you are signed up for notifications for when the items you're looking for come back in stock!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not that you can't circulate the Tropic Marin salts during storage, it's just that Tropic Marin salts don't have to be circulated during storage if you don't want to.

    Which of the Tropic Marin salts would be best for a new reefer?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pro Reef or the Classic would be the two that I would suggest to a new reefer. The only difference between the two is the calcium and alkalinity levels with the Pro Reef being slightly lower in alkalinity. Pro Reef is what we use at the BRS office and have a lot of success with

      @@BRStv Of those 2, which would be better for a mixed reef with very little sps, if my goal is to maintain a healthy reef doing 50% water changes weekly and not having to dose anything?

      I’m thinking of switching to this salt, my parameters are 9 dkh, 440 calcium and mag 1350. Which one would be best for me and my mostly lps/ softie tank? I have been manually dosing because my numbers were way too low. I’ve been using coral pro salt but the dkh is just too high for me, I would like to stay around 9.

  • @vargagergely152

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pro Reef salt mix generally mixes up right around 7 dKH. While SPS corals can do well in 7 dKH, that's lower than where most reefers will aim for. Using a little sodium bicarbonate will help bump that up.
