    All good advice, Sarge! I sell on ebay and the fees makes it difficult to make a profit that is worth my while. Selling and buying on other platforms like Instagram seems better but is much more difficult because of scammers. It is great that you brought it up.

    I'm new and looking for the best value, not pretty graded coins. I 100% agree with DO YOUR RESEARCH,,,, I attended a small auction the other day with some silver. I was interested in a 10 oz bar they had. I checked spot price and what the bar would cost me from a reputable dealer. One hour later I watched that bar sell for $390 + tax, ($415.35). I could have ordered the exact bar from a bullion dealer for $266.00 and no tax, with free shipping..

    JM Bullion has an easy to understand chart page on their web site with current spot prices. Strangely, JMs Ebay prices are sometimes lower than buying directly from their web site. As far as selling, I like to stick with Eagles and Maple Leafs. Oddball coins and plain rounds are harder to sell at full value.
    Check your state sales tax law too, I can't remember the dollar ammount but in Maryland I have to purchase over a certain ammount to avoid sales tax.

The first two points you make are stupid BUYER mistakes. We ALL do it. It's part of the learning process. Also, you got me interested when you said this advice was coming from 2009 lessons, then you talk about Instagram? You should consider titling the vid more accurately. • @PreppingWithSarge
      @PreppingWithSarge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I think that’s fair. It wasn’t always this way… most of my Morgans were bought for $25-30 between 2009-2011. I don’t remember exactly what spot price was, but I think it was around $24 an ounce. Then later, silver dipped to $14 an ounce and a lot of people got out. I told him the melt on that should be close to $600 - take it to a dealer or even to a pawn shop. He doesn't want to, so I told him no thanks, if you're willing to lose $500, then I'm not willing to take a chance that it is .999 pure. Are those the Morgans you put in your will to me?

      Joey, I hear you that junk is higher - if you're building weight, bullion coins/rounds is the way to go, for sure. But if part of your strategy is prepping, junk is the cheapest way to get fractional amounts, and it's universally recognized. It's a good idea to have some. Plus, you can take it out and play with it and jingle it! But yeah, for wealth preservation, it's bullion all the way. I never thought of myself as much of a prepper - until the unrest, and then the coof, and now the general direction of things, not to mention any number of natural things that may occur. I found myself acquiring some more pew pews and their food, long-term foods for the pantry, and or course, more silver! So now I guess I am one!

    Listen everyone.... I cannot express this enough... Education educate yourself before you start stacking find a local dealer who you can become friends with buy from them or a reputable dealer so when you go in to purchase you will already know the important things that you need to know talk to people that stack don't go in with blind folds on or you could get ripped off know what you're doing before you start stacking make sure that you educate yourself make sure that they don't have a problem testing your metal before you leave if they have a problem with that then don't buy from them walk away if you still get ripped off after everything I've just told you then it's your fault not there's 👍😎

      Be careful about “toned” coins too… some people use chemicals to artificially tone coins… if it didn’t happen naturally then it actually LOWERS coin value. Of course, I also feel like “if it’s your coin you can do what you want with it”
      But people who use artificial toners SHOULD be disclosing it to buyers.
      They do look pretty though

    Sorry Sarge, but what the definition of overcharge that you mentioned several times?
    E.g. What's the allowed max price of 1 oz silver round when 1 oz silver spot price, let's say, is $25?
    Would be better if you could come up with some examples, some particular purchase experience and so on, instead of talking many general stuff. But thanks anyway for the video.

      thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about doing some examples when I visit coin shops, but I will do it in a way that doesn't call out individual owners or name their shop.. also, some of these coin shop owners do not want people filming inside for security reasons... would have to be from the parking lot... but good idea, will take it into consideration.

    I couldn't agree more, went to 3 pawn shops one didn't buy silver one offered half spot price on 10 Oz's then third said they where magnetic and fake. My reason for selling was to trade up to a gold dragon pendant I wanted from one of the pawn shops. Only way I'll add to my stack is if the price falls to the lowest again.

      yes, my mistake was not paying attention... that being said, I did some research on ebay before I recorded this video, and the prices were much higher than Apmex. People wanted $40 per Eagle PLUS over-inflated shipping. By comparison, an Eagle on Apmex is currently $36 (still a high premium) but no shipping if you order over $200.
      It's not even close. But maybe I'll do some videos comparing them. That's a good idea actually

    Not exactly a scam, maybe - but here's a Fellow Stacker asking for advice: I bought three unique 2oz "Stacker Rounds" from one of the biggest online dealers which they list on each of their different sites as "0.999 fine". They're beautiful, no question, but they have no marking of weight nor purity and they test at only 0.900 fine on my Sigma. I've tried many different ways to test them and they always come up as 0.900. So I asked the bullion dealer if they verify them and they answered that, since they are certified and they only buy from certified distributors, there's no need for them to verify when they receive stock. This is a big concern for me since they advertise these stackers as 99.9% and I will only ever be able to present them or sell them as 90.0%. Any ideas, folks? Do the big bullion dealers all play fast and loose like this? What can be done --- should I just pay the return shipping since they seem to have no interest in correcting the problem with me (and everyone else who may have bought these stackers)?

    • @PreppingWithSarge
      @PreppingWithSarge  ปีที่แล้ว

      wow, that IS concerning, especially if they are advertising it at .999
      It sounds like you already spoke to them about the problem. I would take pics and videos of your tests, send them THOSE and state that you are concerned for other buyers. Then return for a refund. Encourage them to do their own test, and inform that you are going to post your results online, including their response. That's about the best you can do I think...
      And from what I know, this is pretty unusual. It sounds like (as you indicated) that the problem isn't with the online dealer, but the pourer, and the online dealer is trusting a little too much.. but in the end, it will effect THEIR reputation, so they should care.

      @@PreppingWithSarge thanks Sarge, very logical suggestions. They usually show the mint that produces each of their items like Golden State Mint or Highland Mint, evidently these came from KOMSCO which is Korean, I think? That's a little unclear, but anyway they're an intricate design and likely cast rather than pressed from standard blanks. I'll take your advice - I paid a higher premium for a unique design in 2 oz of silver, and now it feels like the bait and switch promos that some companies use to take advantage of people, often elderly. Anyway, thanks - I'll stick with more recognizable Rounds from now on

    • @PreppingWithSarge
      @PreppingWithSarge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They sell some copper stuff on Apmex and JMB, much more afforable for "play" Even cheaper would be if you find a "silver pourer" or "silver artist" and ask them to sell you some aluminum bars. I don't have the equipment to melt, but a bunch of other silver channels do that stuff. If you search "silver pour" you will find them
