    46 years just poking along today at 30 ozs. a week. The least I have put aside in my life. As I have had a good run now through life. Never put 1 oz away to get rich. Instead only to retain wealth and provide a nice comfortable retirement. You beginners with less then 10 years of stacking experience keep it going you’ll never regret your collection.

      @@TheComicsDen I`m from Canada so we pay about 30% more than the US. The dealer I buy from is cheaper than any online seller I can find. Do generic rounds sell for less? I don`t care about who makes them as long it is good value. Also I pay cash and in Canada we don`t have to clam anything under $1000.

      @@TheComicsDen I am very NEW at this, what is the problem with a paper trail?

    • @johnsanford3596
      @johnsanford3596 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@marilynbuchfink7062 IF you don't want the government to know you have precious metals, then a paper trail is something to avoid. A secondary risk is any bad actors within the transaction chain who could theoretically use the information to come and steal your PM. Unless you're buying a LOT, that's a lower risk than the guy who stakes out the LCS and follows people home to pick his burglary/robbery targets.
      Most such lowlifes are more likely to hang around ATMs, just as there is more risk that someone inside the transaction chain will steal your identity than somehow knock off your house.

    Wow your voice sounds like a kid in this video compared to recent videos. It's giving me a good laugh this morning. Hope you don't take offense, it's just the way things go in life... we start young and inexperienced and then old and wise. As for me at 61, I'm old, maybe a little wise, and just beginning with buying silver and gold. I'm the kid in this silver and gold thing we're all doing and you're the one with the experience. I watch several of your videos each day, learning more and more, and I thank you for that. Really love the videos at Harry's shop and when you visit other shops, especially the Tucson AZ shop, that place looked really cool. Take care.

    i've known about people that have stored silver/gold in banks and companies that hold precious metals. it's a dicey thing cause should the company or bank
    go out of business, the customer can lose the metals to claims from the company or bank.
    I would always keep your own safe. I 100% agree with silver dragons on that.

    All great points! The only question I would ask is about exit strategy. When I began a few months ago, once I began to understand premiums and spot price, that was my sole focus. In my area (South Austin, Texas) it seems that the local LCS establishments either are elite high capital requirement bullion dealers or places I wouldn't necessarily trust. It seems as though there's no in-between trustworthy LCS places like you and Yankee are fortunate enough to have. Thus, finding a place to eventually sell off some of my stack is going to be a real challenge.

    • @SilverDragons47
      @SilverDragons47  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      look into selling to an online bullion dealer. typically they have good buy back prices... sometime even higher than what a LCS might pay 🤷🏽‍♂️🔥🐉

The scrap gold will be tested and sorted and melted at that karat and sold to jewelers at market plus 10%. Holding on the junk silver and bars. Always take a metals tester when you buy at auctions but good deals there.

    I have 6 5 gallon buckets weighing 650 lbs.+ of constitutional silver coins pre 1965. Only quarters dimes and halfs. Been collecting since the age of 5 1950 - 1970 were the best years because the 90% coin age was still in circulation in quantities. I was a paperboy and I had multiple large routes and skim of every silver coin I could get my hands on. I have over 20,500 troy ozs. of constitutional silver. I have over 70,000 ASE'S in sealed mint monster boxes. I have over 17,000 troy ozs. in silver bullion 5 - 10 - kilo - 100 troy oz. .999 bars. I have over 22,000 troy ozs. in silver .999 sovereigns. I been stacking almost 70 years I am 77. I trade silver for gold sovereigns only no bullion for this guy. Bottom line gold is the metal of choice. I was buying gold in Saigon Vietnam back in 66-69 two tours of duty on the black market from the Viet Minh Viet Cong for 35.00 a troy oz. they dealt with me because I paid in American dollars which was illegal if caught. I bought hundreds of ozs. and had a friend send them to my sister's home back in the states.

    Highly unlikely that local coin shops sell fake metals. They are required by law to include a specially signed receipt for every purchase. The shopkeeper doesn't want to get sued because their patron actually checks the authenticity of the metal they bought. This is more a problem with private sellers or handshake deals.

    Though I do agree with you on dollar cost averaging, I disagree with the amount per purchase, I recommend to meet the threshold of 1500 dollars per purchase. #1 reason is there are no taxes above 1500 dollars. # 2 if you cannot save up 1500 dollars, chances are you will end up needing to sell your stack to pay the bills. #3 The larger the purchase the lower per coin cost, this can be substantial, Apmex typical spread is 2 dollars. Right now per 1500 dollars the spread is equal to 4 ounces or 37 ounces per monster box . that's my 2 cents

    Thanks, I plan to make my initial junk silver purchase today. I plan to invest at least $150-200 and want to make sure I make the right choice as far as who I buy from. I'll be shopping online bc I live in a pretty remote area but I always research the reputations of online businesses before I spend my $ so I'm hoping it goes well. Is 15x face value pretty acceptable rn? I last heard a junk silver dime ia worth appx. $1.40 so 15x sounds pretty good to me but I know very little of this game. I appreciate the videos!

    I would never recommend a bank to store my gold. Safety deposit boxes are not FDIC insured, if a bank closes, or brought by another bank, it might take a while to get to your safety deposit box. If the government decides to have a bank holiday, they could essentially take your gold. I would recommend a heavy fire proof safe in a well hidden place in your home.
    I also have a question. When you go to a new lcs, do you bring a magnet and scale with you and do a ping test?
    Besides that, great video as usual!

      yeah like I said I don’t recommend that either... no I don’t bring anything with me in coin shops. I always test when I get home 🤷🏽‍♂️🔥🐉

    FYI. Watched a video on heavy safes, digital key pads were easy to break into with an earth magnet. 30 seconds is to fast. A much bigger magnet than the one you're using though.
    I'm looking for a safe for my guns, silver and coins.

    Also I think that the ping test app is excellent, costs a few dollars and compliments other testing methods.
    Many government bullions also have security features such as radial lines and micro engravings

    First off, love watching your melting videos. I found you as a recommendation by TH-cam from sreetips a few weeks ago.
    I decided to make a small purchase last week from an online bullion deal and was surprised to find sales tax. I thought I read the laws right for my state. While I know the tax subject is confusing and complicated, I’m wondering if there are clear definitions on what “bullion” means or if it’s subjective by state. I haven’t found any good TH-cam videos that address these definitions and I think a TH-cam video that directly addresses the universal American definitions used in these “laws” would be super helpful.

    • @SilverDragons47
      @SilverDragons47  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it’s different from state to state. some states require you to make a large purchase to not have to pay the sales tax. I don’t pay any sales tax in Oregon 🤷🏽‍♂️🔥🐉

    When you weigh a coin, shouldn't you also verify that it corresponds to the expected volume? I suppose that you need to have a special vessel that makes it easier to read, something with a very narrow spout beyond the room for the 1OZ coin + water. I suppose a caliper can be used, but since coins aren't completely flat, its not as precise as submerging it.

      Anything under 1/4 oz (8 grams) is almost always (99%+) going to have stupid high premiums. There ARE some reasons to pay those premiums, but maximizing your investment is not one of them. My personal, albeit entirely theoretical at this point, rule is no gold under a half ounce, although I may modify it to "no gold at a higher premium than my average silver premium."
