I was blown away by her performance in this extraordinary movie. I always knew she was a gifted actress who could deliver powerful performances, but I had no idea how great she was until I saw Under The Skin. She is shockingly good and I don't use that term often.

I prefer her hair hold up with heavy black eye shadow, the more sexy, tight and cold look. This video made her look more soft and natural, not the best.
like here is the best th-cam.com/video/Rqq_V-jlDgg/w-d-xo.html

I love her so much and not just because she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. She's a fantastic actress and I think she deserves every bit of success she has and more. Under the skin is one of my all time favorite films and Scarlett did an incredible job with this role.

One thing that strikes me about Scarlett Johansson's performance is how good her English accent was. I appreciate she didn't have all that much dialogue - but as a Brit, I really couldn't fault it.
It's an interesting choice, given that she's playing an alien dropped into Scotland, but I think it really works. It helps her fit in with her environment while still making her a _bit_ of an outsider. It also improves the naturalistic feel, and presumably helped fool the guys that she interacted with who didn't know they were being filmed conversing with a famous Hollywood actress. Personally, I was mostly able to forget that I was watching Scarlett Johansson driving around Glasgow in a van - instead I was watching an alien impersonating an Englishwoman driving around Glasgow in a van.

I really don't think it's half as deep, do you? Sure it can be interesting in many ways, and some scenes are mesmerizing (like that 2001-like light scene), but I don't believe it is as deeply thought out as 2001.

i like interviews like this where she is putting her thoughts together as she speaks, not like other panel or interview where you can see the person has answered the questions before. seems more authentic here.

I don't know if anybody will read this post but here goes. This movie is the closest to approximate what or how alien and an alien's mind might be; on a physiological and psychological level. Morality as a ontological study would have no meaning for them. There idea, presuming they have one, would be radically different. So, as this character take humans to be digested by the transdimensional beast; she feels no remorse or guilt. Those are human concepts.

This movie is absolutely fantastic. Super unique. Another stunning piece of work from Jon. Glazer. And after hearing Ms. Johansson stumble and babble her way through her answers during these 10 minutes I have even more respect for Mr. Glazer. I mean, actors without a scrip are always scary. But this was jaw-dropping. The poor interviewer. If Samantha Morton had done UDS it would be for the ages. But if it took Ms. Johansson's star power to fund the movie then kudos to her for taking it on.

Idk what people are saying. Under The skin is definitely on my top 10 favorite of all time and trust me,I've watch enough hollywood crap to tell this. This movie is thought provoking and instead of giving you a certain perspective of how you 'have' to think, this movie lets u explore and have a thought of your own. Conclude the message and the story, and guessing what the movie tries to tell you with its mysterious way of narrative.

Sometimes actors do a movie and just go thru the motions. There's three dozen takes of half a dozen scenes in one exhausting day for the actors - and they film them and go home. So when they see the final movie product a year or two later (and many don't even see the whole thing) and they are expected to answer deep serious questions about every aspect of the final edited movie, it's a bust. Many times they don't know anything about the final cut or which takes were used or how they were used, let alone the evolving characters or plotlines. You see this with how SJ is commenting on this movie - all over the place and disjointed. Of course with more PR their answers become more scripted and organized.

I watched some photograms ant it was bizarre and made me feel fear, but interesting conference I insist. Under the Skin is 1984's Starman with Jeff Bridges only the opposite. Starman is a being that is an entity that is intelligent enough to create a human, live in it and can experience being human in every way. Under the Skin represents an Alien that is not an entity, it has it's own physical form but no sense of self and its only purpose is to lure and trap. Scarlett's character can learn feelings and empathy, but can't experience anything humanly physical. Cause that's not it's purpose. The movie is meant to seem intriguing but lacks true depth. It was ok.

I haven't seen the movie but to hold her hand and see her face before I die would be my last wish on death row after showing up in here at this gathering in Italy after confessing the crimes I was about to commit to the Pope on the other side of the country. I come in with my vintage us military jacket recently stolen before being auction 20 miles under Le Trocadero Metro. I jumped on the table kicking everything out of the way leaving my footprints with my used/ brand new red Doc Martins and singing Vamos by The Pixies. I realize I needed to free my hand to pick up Scarlett Johanson and I dropped my made in USA molotov on the ground; Meanwhile, my helicopter's ladder came down just in time to pull us up, and at the same time I left my signature with the bullets of my AK-47 as we were being lifted. Inside the helicopter she blew a kiss and I gave a peace sign.

Listening to her reveals the superficiality of the film industry. I guess it's definitely painful for Glazer to listen to. It seems she has absolutely no idea what to say, her stereotypical answers fall short and she's aware of it, which is both an obvious sign and a good one. Glazer was able to get what he needed from her performance. Her down-to-earthness doesn't carry through here, it would be wiser if she didn't answer questions when she doesn't have an answer, or just admitted that there are some things about this film that she still hasn't digested. In any case, she fits the film 100%, I can't imagine any other actress in this role. This film will secure her a place in film history, history of film, that's for sure.

Now let me first say that I loved this movie. It was totally captivating to the mind. Having said that, now let me ask - does anybody else see that she is clueless, or at least acting clueless here? I am surprised to say the least seeing as this movie gets a hold of your mind and DEMANDS personal interpretation. She seemed to have more depth in the movie than in real life.

This movie only "sucks" to people who haven't read the book. It is very spare. The book is wonderful. Everything is explained. The movie couldn't provide the dialogue necessary to make it understandable. It wouldn't be the same movie. It would be more Hollywood garbage.

    • @garibaldi54

The movie is nothing like the book, the people who think this movie sucks are idiots who dont understand that you're supposed to figure it out for yourself. All the clues are there and the pace is kept deliberately slow to allow the viewer to process what they see and join it all together.

Movies with Scarlett Johansson are not as interesting as watching her comment on these films. It seems to me that the directors do not fully reveal the playfulness of Scarlett Johansson, limit it to the frames of contrived characters. I think we should let her complement the characters she plays with her natural playfulness. This will add positive emotionality to the films in which she starred.

I know what you mean and she often comes across like that in similar interviews in similar settings but in more laid-back ones she seems an awful lot better (and with a far broader vocab) so it's probably just not the best environment for her to be articulate when she's in front of 100s.

She's probably stumbling cause she knows the movie was shit and know she has to sit on the pot and answer a bunch of questions. However, the movie isnt garbage due to her performance. I'm surprised she read the script and signed on

Scarlet using 'um' and 'you know' excessively, shows her ignorance. Beauty she has, intelligence not so much.

That's a pretty limited perspective to take through the world. I don't know if this woman is intelligent or not, but a panel discussion concerning a film and its outcome she does not have much control over is not the best environment from which to judge a person.

There are some things you need to learn about public speaking. One, the use of the words "um" and "you know" are called "filler words." These are commonly used as space fillers while the speaker is thinking as a way to prevent the listener from getting bored. Of course, the goal is to avoid using these words, the likelihood of them being avoided in this format is unlikely. This is not a prepared speech. These are candid questions and she is trying to give solid, satisfactory answers without giving too much away or creating an answer that will remove the mystery or individual interpretation from the film. When you are in the public eye, being cautious of the words you say is important.

It's the movie. It's hard to clearly explain.
