What a great choice. For all the Jawbreaker fans out there, there is a great Jawbreaker documentary called Don't Break Down. Details the re-emergence of Jawbreaker and the fallout from Dear You. Like you said love/ hate. I love this band. Good choice on the Playlist.
Dear You is simultaneously an extremely hated and beloved album in the punk scene. I'm on the love side. Probably one of the most influential bands on modern punk/emo/post hardcore/post rock.
This is one of those songs that the lyrics are the most important thing to follow. They set the tone of the desparity. The music just follows along! Some bands we love for the agression of the sound, this bands agression comes through its lyrics. Aggression isnt the right word outright, its smashing up depression into a ball and trying to pitch a no hitter! It's not going to happen. "It hasn't been my day, for a couple years.". One of my favorite lyrics!
These guys changed punk music with this album. Bands like Lagwagon, Good Riddance, and the entire genre were influenced a lot post the release of this album.
The absolute highlight of my punk musician career😂 was opening for Good Riddance! Second, was opening for Total Chaos, twice! Third was opening for Avail! I'm old, I need to press a few buttons!
As has already been said, a decent Jawbreaker song but not their best. Honestly you could do a track by track on 24 Hour Revenge Therapy and you wouldn't find a dud track. Classic early 90s punk.

Hugely underrated album.
it's only hated by purist snobs!
I don't get the hate.
They did a tour with Jawbox last year AND in the 90s. Funny that you mentioned them.
yep, and a split 7" years ago... I recall Albini confusing the two bands at some point
The guitar at 2:35 elevates this song.

Decent song but not the best example of Jawbreakers music.
