Listening to this song, I get something so much different out of it than what was intended but that's the beauty of music.
So much truth to this statement.
This hits so many chords in my life because I am the only one left from my family, lost my momma 4 months ago in September and it's like life is in slow motion and it's bringing back the memories that I don't want to think about, because they are that awful

As active duty military and having 6 combat deployments under my belt, I would argue that "the wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell" is a statement toward the moral dilemma we face when having to take a life. Regardless of your background, humankind is not born with the innate need to kill. It has to be taught, and eventually humanity comes back and we have to face what we have done. That's not a task one deals with easily.

Christopher Abbott .... Thank you for your service. A lot of money and time is spent turning recruits into so,diets who can kill. I for one wish a similar amount of money and time was spent easing soldiers back into civilian life. Given the amount of money spent on equipment and contractors, the money to properly look after veterans is a drop in the bucket.
The last scene where the buisnessman sees the bum in the street and realizes it's his former brother in arms....one that took a bullet for him....like he can't let him spend one more night on the street....Soo impactful...it cut straight to my heart.

Yeah I definitely love that part... The part that kills me is the part with the little girl that is paying attention to the "homeless" man, and bringing light back into his life... and is pulled away by mom... I just think of how many times similar scenes have played out, and how many times those little interactions could have or have saved that Veterans' lives!!

Essex 37 honestly there’s a lot of resources and people willing to help but Marines and soldiers and all that don’t like asking for help. Most men don’t in general. Suffer in silence and push on. They need to be encouraged to ask for help, it’s not always there 100% of the time but usually it’s just a few words to the right person.

The statement of "wrong side of heaven" is about realizing he's done some things that are unforgivable, but he did it for reasons he believed were right (fighting for freedom home and abroad) putting him on the "righteous side of hell". That living purgatory may be why so many veterans have trouble re-aclimating into society.

I think you just nailed it. Soldiers are required to do things that are not looked on kindly in the bible. However, doing them is the right thing. Wrong side is doing what has to be done, doing them is right and doesn't throw you in with those that go to hell for doing what had to be done but it feels they way.

I'm not sure how other countries treat their veterans, but what we've done here in the U.S. is downright shameful.
I support our veterans and respect our military but I hate my government for what we did, and continue to do, to these men and women.

It was a translation error. As Bill stated, it's "Thou shalt not murder". A lot of people don't really understand the difference, but there really is. To kill just means to take a life in general, regardless of intent or reason. To murder means to kill for any reason aside from defensive measures.
But the whole wrong side of heaven, righteous side of hell phrase is mostly stating that what is done is often seen as a necessary evil. It's good in the fact that things that are done are preventative measures to protect one's country or people, but evil in it's very nature. Therefore, it's probably something "heaven" would understand but not necessarily condone, while it's widely acceptable action for "hell". Many of our veterans go about their lives feeling as though they've done so much for their country will little or nothing to show for it, no support, no appreciation from the general public, lots of criticism, and they feel abandoned by the government they once served and are left on the streets. And often times, they feel regret or remorse for what they did, regardless if it as willingly or forced upon them, so they see what they've done as evil. This isn't the case for all veterans, even the ones that have done many of the same things as someone that may have killed someone like a woman or child to protect their brothers. Ultimately, it depends on how your morality has developed and what justifications you have to support your decisions or actions.
@@joseph6852 Morality is subjective, some would believe it's not right to kill at all. Some people view life all the same, like if you would step on a bug, you ended some form of life. That's a tough one, to try and understand why size, species and intelligence level determines the importance of the life.

One of the parts that hits the hardest is near the end if you pay attention to what the guy in the suit is saying. "You know me, you saved my life brother."
hit me the same way color didn't matter during war time we all are brothers same after coming home color didn't matter still brothers. I wish we all could be like these two guys in this video and just do away with all the bull crap and hate we have today.
It's crazy that we should find this within an hour of each other and want exactly the same thing. The world is full of hate, but I think there is hope.

I think you missed the point here.
Being a veteran myself, I totally 'get' the lyrics. The choice of God as 'female' is intended both to make you sit up and listen simply because it's not what you are used to hearing, AND it points to the fact that in most of the most ancient religions, the primary God was, indeed, female.
The lyric of 'wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell' is about being wrong in the eyes of God, because what you do may mean taking another person's life, while the righteous side of hell is that you did so for all the 'right' reasons... Even though you have 'sinned', you did so protecting others. Every veteran understands this.
I served in the USMC straight out of High School. And although I never saw combat, I did see some of my fellow Marines die in accidents during 'mock' war maneuvers. When I think back to that period of my life, I still see their faces, hear their voices, and still feel the pain of losing them. Just like any other veteran that has lost a 'brother' or 'sister' in arms.
The lines about 'I'm no hero, and I'm not made of stone'... NO veteran has ever said they were a hero. In fact, those awarded medals and honors for being 'heroic' always say that it was those that didn't come back that were the heroes. And as for the 'I'm not made of stone' line... It is said that a hard man does not cry. I say bullshit. 'Hard Men' cry because they feel it more intensely.
Later in the song, there is a lyric of 'Right or wrong, I can hardly care...' That statement most veterans will understand immediately because during combat, during your time of service, you will be called upon to do things that you are not sure if they are 'right' or 'wrong' but you do your Duty and perform as you were trained... Because if you fail, your brothers may pay for you not doing so.
I took an Oath to stand between any Enemy and my Nation, and the innocent civilians within it. So far as I know, I have never been absolved of that Oath, and I will continue to honor it until my dying day. But having said that, I must admit that when I exited the Corps in 1980, there was still a strong sentiment against the Military in this country. So, I just didn't speak of my Service. I would admit to having served if asked directly, but I avoided speaking of it mostly. Every time I did admit to having Served, I internally braced myself for the hate, anger, and blind blame for things for which I didn't do. Things that my Government had done. I was called everything BUT a 'good man' for having stood up to protect those that could not, or would not, protect themselves.
Thus my life went for pretty much 30 years or more, until after I retired from my job. I bought a condo, and live pretty much alone, although most would say I am a personable man and always willing to help others, they do not know how I feel deep inside. And this went on for several years until I made the 'mistake' of wearing a ball cap to the grocery store that had both the US Flag and the USMC Flag as pins upon it.
A woman came up to me and asked if I had Served. I admitted that I had and even showed her my Dog Tags and a P-38 can opener on my key ring, that I had gotten from a case of C-Rations (MREs have not yet been invented when I served). She thanked me for my service and we shook hands. I responded that it had been my Honor to have done so.
I thought that was the end of the matter, but she surprised me. She gave me a big hug, and overcoming my shock, I hugged back. She then whispered into my ear... "I am proud of you" and went about her shopping. I just stood there in total shock and nearly in tears. In all the time since my Service, no one had EVER said they were proud of me. That they were proud of what I had done, experienced, and lived through.
That day changed my life. I joined several Veteran's organizations like the Marine Corps League, the Devil Dogs, and others, and I can honestly say that today, I am Proud to have Served my Country to the best of my ability and as my Honor demanded.
I know this is a long post, and I am sorry for that, but I felt you should know these things and perhaps gain a better appreciation of just what this song means to Veterans.
Oh, in closing... a factoid for you... NONE of the band members, who depicted soldiers in the video, are Veterans. Although the band is highly pro-Veteran.

Powerful stuff there. That brought tears to my eyes. I am a prior and current veteran now serving again in a different branch. I get thanked often for my sacrifices and services, often I don't know how to appropriately respond to the statement. I generally just thank the person back. If people are ever negative about what they say about my service I always thank them for exercising their rights that I helped defend, that always confuses and diffuses them.

I work in mental health and a fair amount of my work was with disabled and homeless veterans. The first time I watched the video I actually started crying thinking about what I see and how important it is to get this message out there.
They put their lives on the line for us and they need our help and there's nowhere near enough of us out there helping.

I am a very big fan of Five Finger Death Punch and a lot of their songs are geared towards our veterans. When they were here in concert December 2018 anyone who was either still active In the military or retired and wanted to attend their show, they were given free tickets to the concert. Five Finger Death Puch is an amazing band
Thanks for covering this song and video, and thank you for putting it up. I have trouble watching this video because it brings home all the things I try to live through. Going on 20 years in the Army and 52 months in combat.
This song describes how I feel personally and spiritually. The chorus is true: I’m no hero and I’m not made of stone. (We all look tough and have to be tough while we are in it but on the inside, we’re not so tough. No one asks to be a hero and most of us never feel that way. Personally, my heroes are buried: my friends who died so we could live. While good, it also brings about survivors guilt. The wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell: taking a life puts us on the wrong side of heaven but our reason for doing it puts us on the righteous side of hell.

My mom is a Navy veteran. We were homeless for a while. This video has always been one that gets me. It's hell for them. PTSD is real. If you know a vet, please, keep in touch with them. They won't ask for help, but God knows they need it!!!!
Amanda, First, and foremost, I want to thank your mother for her service! Second, I want to thank you, for your comment here and your understanding of what's going on. What's always... ALWAYS forgotten, is, when someone serves in the military, it's not just THEM that serve... their families serve too! I'm a Marine Vet (MOS 2533), as well as a military brat. My father served in the Marines during Vietnam. He and his buddies never once talked about their battle experiences, only about "Remember that BBQ we had at...", or "Oh my God, Ann Margeret and Jayne Mansfield...". Even when I would ask him, he wouldn't talk about it. Of course, I understand, now, because I've gone through some of it, but it's hard for family to fully understand and even harder for non-military families. I can only say to them... Just know that, while you may not understand why that person is in that position, there is a good reason and it MIGHT be better that you don't know it. Stay true, Amanda W.

(USMC), and the pain of missing those 'lost' is hard to deal with at times. Especially those that seem fine, only to take their own lives when you were not looking. Vets just don't seem to ask for help... but they do need it. Some, like myself, get 'shocked' into seeing that they need their fellow vets to be able to handle it when Life gets crazy. @@crumblingdarknesssphere604 : Not only that, but if the Government spent 10% of what they do for 'black' military research projects, Vets would be well compensated for the risks they took to protect this nation. Hell, even a measly monthly stipend of 2,000 bucks would go a long way to aiding Vets to make ends meet, keep them off the streets, and show that they are valued. Add in 'food stamps', and Vet discounts, and you might be talking about enough to keep 'em housed, fed, and with enough to at least equal the poorest civilians out there.
When the cop arrested the guy and he noticed they had the same tattoo they got together in the military...it really hit hard seeing him take the cuffs off... almost as if he was saying "You have go in but not in cuffs brother."
We never see the end of that segment. Yes, the Officer had to arrest him, due to the unregistered firearm, but what else happened? In my mind, the Officer takes interest in his fellow serviceman and gets him the help he needs to feel less alone, more loved, and more honored by those around him. Alcohol rehab, a place to stay, perhaps a job... even a menial one, would do much to help his fellow serviceman feel more a part of society, and less like a broken 'thing' that was cast aside.
This may not have happened, but I would think it might have happened due to the shared 'brotherhood' in arms shown by the tats on their arms. I know I would give my last remaining dollar to a fellow Marine that needed it more than i did.

I see all these comments about the meaning of the lyrics but what I'm tripin' on is how come the government don't care about all these homeless veterans
it's easier for them to do that and costs less than it would to give them what they deserve
They're busy giving it to people that have done nothing to earn it except vote.
It's simple. Veterans can only count on other Veterans. In the end, we are each other's keeper. No one else will fight for us like our brothers and sisters will, especially the government.
it's literally because the military would rather spend it's money elsewhere and on new recruits than those that already served. Also, PTSD is very very complicated to treat, and the time it takes along with the money to figure out a selective treatment for each person is crazy. I'm a recovering alcoholic/addict and had a former Marine as a roommate in rehab. The amount of people he knew personally and had served with who had committed suicide from PTSD was so high every time he heard of a new one (which happened twice in the 20ish days I had him as a roommate) he wasn't even surprised or phased by it anymore.

This song always gets to me as a combat veteran then coming back living on the streets and wanting to just give it all up before finally getting the help and support I needed.
He's saying he did terrible things for the right reasons.
"For what he was told were the right reasons", which is a large part of the problem, he is not sure what he was doing was the right thing or not. At least that is the way I see it.

I respect your thought. But it was also what he believed right himself. Idk if it's even about serving in military. Just more about the guilt or sadness or even anger after tough choices were made. Isn't what's considered right unique to each person? Even though most people share the same frame work of the idea of right, everyone fills it in differently.

I cry everytime I hear this song. I'm a retired vet. And it hurts my heart because I have lost to close friends to suicide because of PTSD. Vet's are always seem to be the forgotten. I always hear the phrase "we are there for the oil" . That might be the reason for our government but for a soldier its help those who cant help themselves. It's hard to get help trust me I know. The next time you see a veteran just say thanks trust me it means alot.

Its a shame the government gives more support to low life welfare slugs than to the brave men and women and their families that have sacrificed so much mentally and physically. I have always had a void in my soul because I couldn't serve due to a health issue, but I stand with all vets past, present and future that serve honorably.

Pastor Robert, I have come across this song long ago and the pain i felt when watching the video for the first time was so strong that it hurt me to even look at the screen to continue watching it. I honestly felt ashamed for the veterans that are treated like nothing but dirt or the scum of society. Till this day is hurts me to relive this memory of the pain and suffering on the battle field no matter the country we all go through grief and sometimes we will be pulled in to the depths of hell because of the sorrow and pain that this video brings us.

In boot camp, we did 22 push ups every night before Taps in honor of the 22 veterans that take their own life every month.

To me, the line " wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell" is reference to the act of killing those enemies. Because you are in fact taking another human life, it puts you on the wrong side of heaven. However, in contrast, they are terrorists. Therefore you are on the righteous side of hell. If that makes any sense.
PlayerSkillFTW first off, to say that there weren’t any WMDs, is to ignore the fact that Saddam Hussein did in fact deploy WMDs on his own people...that is verifiable history. It is believed by many that the weapons were moved from Iraq to Syria, which isn’t a huge leap since Syria had used WMDs on its own people in the ongoing civil war. Fairly early on, the US discovered some nuclear material and removed it from Iraq. We also discovered some F16s that were buried in the desert. So to say that we didn’t find any WMDs is one thing, to imply that they never existed is another entirely.

As a Christian the whole "wrong side of Heaven and the righteous side of Hell" I interpreted as the ever-present dichotomy of being in this world, of being human. I'm a sinner, I do things I know I shouldn't do, I'm "on the wrong side of Heaven." But on the flipside of the same coin, we strive to be more like Christ in spite of, and even because of, out own failures and shortcomings, putting us "on the righteous side of Hell." It's that constant internal struggle between not being as bad as we could be but still not yet being as good as we ought to be, as we know we should be.

Thank you for your service, sir. Truly. I lost my would have been brother in law, 2nd Lt. Adam B. Larson, on January 16, 2017 to suicide. He was based at Ft. Benning when his PTSD became to much for him. He was NOT weak. He had to be too strong for too long. Taking a minimum of 2-3 terrorist lives affected his heart of gold in addition to nearly dying himself and seeing the bodies of fallen soldiers. I love our men and women in uniform. I've either met or have known nearly 100 veterans in my life. Not a single one ever wanted to kill or have to bury another brother or sister in arms. God bless you again, sir.

As a Army vet, everytime I see this video it breaks me down. I can't help but cry because it's so true with what we go through. I myself suffer from PTSD and is rough. I've divorced multiple times because of my PTSD. I've been close to being homeless. Im one of the few who got lucky and was able to get the help I needed from the VA. There are so many vets who get pushed to the side without help. This has to change
It does have to change. I agree with you, battle. My husband suffers from TBI, PTSD, and physical problems from us being over there. (How we met). I've stuck by him through his terrors, fits of rage that comes out of nowhere sometimes. He has hit me on his sleep (night terrors), but I stay because I know war had changed him, and it's not all his fault. He's getting help, and I see a lot of progress. Especially for our kids. He's a great dad. I knew it would take the both of us to get through it.
We did come close to divorce, but decided against it. It wouldn't solve anything, how I saw it. It would have torn him.

I'm 31 years old and didn't grow up listening to metal but my husband did. He introduced me to this group and my reaction to this song was just amazement. Such a strong beautiful song. Now I listen to this group and Disturbed and Megadeath and Marilyn Manson and so many other types of metal and rock music I would've never listened to before. It pays to be open minded.
The ending scene brings me to tears every time I watch it. The raw emotion and power in the words. The homeless guy is fighting back and you can see the other guy mouthing “You know me! You saved my life, brother!” Before they both break down in tears. Heart-wrenching.

I would like to say my interpretation of wrong side of heaven and the righteous side of hell is that his PTSD is so bad that he feels that in his head he knows that he is a good person but feels that he is a bad person for killing people. Then to top it all of he feels that he is unwanted because he kept the world free and doesn't understand why people don't like him.

It doesn't matter how many times I watch this video it brings me to tears. My family comes from a long line of military people. The most recent is my daughter. She is currently in the USAF. Preceded by my mother and my father (i never got to meet my dad) both US ARMY), along with my maternal uncle and numerous grandparents.... My uncle is the one that best fits this song. He was a Vietnam vet. For more than 30yrs he CHOSE to be homeless. Its what he wanted. He did reconnect with the family for a few years. Ultimately though he chose to go back to the streets in (we assume because he left in 2018) and we haven't heard from him since.... Sometimes it's like the demons you know are easier to fight than the uncertainty of the future that lies ahead. ... Thank you for reacting to this song ❤.

My family has been serving the nation since the civil war. I was honored to be following their foot steps. The things that always got me though was the fact that when friend's and family I knew were applying for benefits to support themselves after they got home while trying to get back on their feet were denied yet people who are not from our country were approved.

Truth is when it comes to soldiers you sometimes have to kill in order to not just protect yourself. But, to protect everyone of your brothers and sisters. You try your best to fight to survive and the main motivation is the people back in the states. Friends and family that you left behind to serve. But, some soldiers will pay the ultimate sacrifice protecting others.

When I first heard this song, I started crying. This song brought home the fact that those of us who have had to do those ugly things to keep breathing. It became so easy to kill, we who have seen and done those acts don't look at the world as everyday people do? We shut down, we go out when we have to. He is speaking about where we (as soldiers of war) feel we are. Not just at home but while at war.
The wrong side of heaven eludes to what we have to do as soldiers in war. The way that we must dehumanize someone or a group of people in order to actively search for and kill them. These things are the antithesis of heaven.
The righteous side of hell refers to that place we find ourselves when doing this. There is a not so fine line that we endeavor not to cross. We cause ourselves to become the monster, because only a monster can kill a monster. This monster resides in hell. As soldiers, (those of us who have had to take life) we have to be able to walk up to that line, become the monster, all the while keeping our eye on that line.
Having seen that line, and becoming the monster, is nearly impossible to deal with when we come back to our families. That monster (I call it a “deamon”) still and forever lives inside us. It can be like being condemned to death, with no date.
I hope this provides some insight.

It’s his wife, she blames him for not being the same man before the war. Happened to me, wife left me for another man. Used my ptsd against me I. Court, now I can’t see my kids but once a month with a court appointed supervisor and can’t even hug or kiss my kids. It happens to often abuse society views us as broken, but I can serve my Community as a Leo.

Pastor, I don't normally respond to videos, but I like your channel and that there is an open forum for music discussion. I am a veteran. I did two tours in Iraq, and four in Afghanistan. I saw and did things there that I couldn't tell my mother. The price of conflict, is that something has to be given up, in order for something to be gained. Thank you for showcasing this video.
From my perspective, when they say 'I'm on the wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell.'
Meaning, they're at war, killing people, which is wrong.
But they are doing it to protect their families and their country, being righteous.
Then the lyrics 'I spoke to God today and she sounded just like me. I saw the devil today and he looked a lot like me.
Meaning we ultimately decide what is wrong and right and we choose what morals we live by (god sounds like me). Sometimes we will doubt ourselves and feel like we aren't on the right path (when you do, to yourself you look like the devil).
There's also a point of 'arms wide open, I stand alone. I'm no hero and I'm not made of stone.'
You can be begging for help but you still feel alone.
Fighting for your country doesn't mean you are a hero or that you're strong all the time.
We all need help. And instead of calling a veteran a hero and giving them a medal. We need to support them, get them the proper help they deserve.
The wrong side of heaven, righteous side of hell references the soul of the warrior. We are scarred and broken, in many ways unworthy of entering heaven, despite having fought for the side of righteousness, thus we face hell while refusing to become part of it. We stand the line between the hell of war and our heaven back home while living. When we meet Death and are carried to Peter's judgment, we stand trial for our bloodshed and hate, and then instead of facing hell to protect our personal heaven in life, we face the possibility of eternal hell instead of allowing our scars and pain to mar the perfection of the streets of gold.

Absolutely, As a Veteran Police Officer I have had this moral dispute multiple times and have spoken many times to my Pastor about the way I feel. I personally feel the calling to stand the line. But also worry what St. Peter will say when I stand for judgement. From what My pastor tells me God has special places for Warriors. He knows the cost we put forward and sacrifices we make or are willing to make. For those reasons even though we may feel on the wrong side of heaven we never truly are.

This video is a way of spreading awareness. We're all on the verge of losing everything to include our loved ones. It's just so hard for them to understand the impacts of what we go through. Employers are scared of what we might do may an episode happen. It's very difficult to continue life after you serve, especially if you were able to do so in combat. Everyone that reviews this (in a hip hop channel more so than others) helps people realize we're just in pain. We just need another chance to be human. Thank you for your help.

I know I’m super late to seeing this, but as a vet, my interpretation of the whole god is she and devil is he ... is God she is lady liberty and the devil is the government. This video gets to me everytime. It hits home far to much for I was homeless when I first got out of the military. Also many of these statistics have increased since this music video. It’s now saying 22 vets a day take their life, that’s over 8000 a year. I almost became apart of that statistic when I was first transitioning. Another vet quite saved my life and pulled me out of that darkness and I slowly got back on to my feet and living the best I can. One thing that friend said to me that has never left the back of my mind and is quite frankly the only reason I’m still alive “Suicide doesn’t stop the pain, it only pass it on to someone else.” If anyone is struggling please reach out. #22toomany
Thanks for sharing and thank you for your sacrifice to our country. Your friend was correct, suicide passes pain with much more intensity to those you leave behind. The ones who love and care for you will always ask themselves why, what did/didn't I do or say or how did they not see signs, and the what ifs will consume them. I too have walked that narrow dark path courting death as it seemed the only way to end my nightmares which were on constant loop. I wish everyone in the same situation would pause. Just do nothing. Absolutely nothing, and see what a difference a day brings. With enough people agreeing this is an issue that needs immediate attention and funding, and if we all wrote our state politicians and pressured them to make changes on how we reintroduce service men and women to civilian life as well as better PTSD programs and access to both medical and mental healthcare for all veterans. AND programs in place to prevent them from becoming homeless with additional safety nets in place that periodically check in with those identified as PTSD veterans or simply struggling to adapt.
Let's face it, the average citizen myself included has no clue what you've been through, seen or done and if we did most likely we would be in same position. It's unbelievable that this country likes to put on appearances that we CARE about our military people but the sad reality is we are just cogs in a machine. We are all dispensable. Enough people speak up, we CAN make a change.

Such a great interpretation of this song. Five Finger Death Punch has many songs dealing with the harsh realities of war and law enforcement. Their song "Remember Everything" is a very emotional song dealing with an aging veteran. It would be interesting to see a reaction to that one.
I'm going to piggyback off this comment. 5fdp is general supports our military services. They do the USO tours and help raise money for our vets. Also 5fdp also touches on alcoholism (I apologize) teenage suicide ( coming down) as well as many other subjects. Ever TH-camr that reacts to this vid I check out cause coming from a military family as well as being homeless on and off for over 10 years I see too many vets out there basically helpless. I'm glad that sooo many ppl are getting the word out about this. I dont want to ramble on so in closing a old quote I heard years ago about our vets... We can teach them to kill but wont teach them how to live again

This song brings tears to my eyes, because I've felt the meaning of the song. I feel this song is about battling not just your enemies on the battlefield, but also the demons that haunt your mind.

dbthompson0206 I always saw it as feeling like they’ve done too much bad in their eyes to have earned a place in heaven, but the fact those acts were done in defense of others leaving them have not done enough bad to be in hell, leaving the person in an emotional limbo of not knowing what to feel about themselves and their actions.
@@devinshort8150 I totally agree. The song and its entirety speaks to me in that sense. When I got home from deployment, I felt like I didn't belong. I missed my friends I lost over there and didn't fit in anywhere. I even tried to kill my self two years ago. FFDP songs helped me understand that I'm not alone in this fight.

I have to say that this video seriously pulled at my heart strings, and I actually had to fight back tears. The song and the video really do make a good point that American's are seriously have for some time been failing our veterans. They not only risked their lives for us, but even at times have sacrificed parts of their souls so that we can live free.
Saw FFDP at Red Rocks a year ago. They brought vets up onto stage for this song, and everyone in the crowd was cheering for them and for the vets in the crowd. So many people were in tears, especially when Ivan stopped to thank them. It was an amazing thing to watch.
Mad respect for this pastor that can listen and appreciate this music and this incredible group for who they are! ❤️ I am a Christian and I love 5FDP. Their music hits me hard because even though I’m not military or ex-military, I have been through so much trauma the majority of my life. I always took this song (Wrong Side of Heaven) like others have stated, that soldiers are having to kill people which obviously would be considered “sinful” but they’re protecting innocent people, which could be considered “righteous.” The video also puts another spin on it talking about the veterans that are just cast off after serving their time and fighting for our country. That alone makes me so angry and hurt to think about. So it’s like they’re stuck somewhere in the middle between living and dying, being loved and hated. For me personally, this song reminds me of the times when my darker side gets the best of me, when I’m just pushed too far. I absolutely have to be pushed there because that’s just not the kind of person I am. So when that side of me comes out, I feel bad and am reminded that when someone is trying to hurt the people I love, I’m protecting them, which is good, but having to stand against the bad that seek us out can also make me feel like a bad person. Another of their songs that makes me cry and speaks to my heart is Remember Everything. Not sure if y’all have heard it or reacted to that one but it’s incredible. It could possibly be a trigger for some people, especially those that have suffered severe trauma, but for me, I find it comforting knowing that I’m not alone in how I feel sometimes.
