Rueben, thanks for making this video. I’ve owned the same stretcher for a few years and rarely used it as it’s cumbersome. Now after forty plus years in the trade my knee is giving up and I’m having to retrain myself. This video is just so helpful, even just the simple stuff like unpacking and such. Thanks again!
You’re welcome buddy , I wish you the best with your knee problem
"Power Stretcher" Got to have one!
Yes, they are a must for installation
Finally someone who cares about installing carpet! We are a dying breed. We all have different tricks we learn over the years but it’s so refreshing to see actual competition out there. Keep up the craft!
Tile Slay Thank you sir
Thanks very much, SoBoy! Well done dude!! We rented a stretcher from H. Depot and found that your video was spot on. Would have been very difficult without your assistance. For anyone else renting a power stretcher: video or photo as you remove it from the box. It is a bit of jigsaw puzzle to return all the pieces to the proper position. Happy carpet stretching.
your welcome and thank you
Be proud you’re doing a great service. Especially to the butchers I’ve come across in this business.
edwin morales thank you
I've installed carpet for 35 years they don't even do the seven point stretch system which every generation knows I got two generations underneath me
😀👍
Power stretchers are a pain why can't they invent a power stretcher that just click button and extend it out to as far as you need it instead having keep putting poles together
Can you show us a video on stretching sizal carpets thanks
I probably won’t be able to make that happen, I never get the opportunity to work with stuff like that
Thank you
😀👍
Use a spreader when stretching it helps out alot.
You stretch the same way I do. I like how you install it's the right way I hate when I tear up a job where the last guy kick and staple
carpet guy 1970 me too
Thank you! You did an amazing job explaining all the fine details of working with a stretcher. I’m a DIY and have learned so much from this video.
Thank you for your help God bless you 🙏
Nice vid !! I see so many of these clowns that think kicking it in is stretching !! BS on that !! Ive done carpet 40 yrs and counting !! I use stretcher boards instead of the foot !! And i see so called installers using the spike to install but with todays floors OSB wafer board crap the spike just sinks and doesnt stretch anything !! LOL
I feel the same way about the spike, I have never used one nor Owned one
Yeah they don't yeah they don't have a clue how to install carpet
Thank you very much for the easy instructions! You brought an end to my hard working boyfriend’s frustration with it!
Leslie Tag That’s great, Hope y’all’s project turned out nice
FloorsbySouthernboys it did! His dream is to flip houses and this was his first try, y’all really did save that day!
Leslie Tag 👍awesome
Good tutorial video. First 54 yard room today. Done small stuff before.
Awesome,good job
Hey bro do u know how to sharpen the teeth of the power strecher??
Never have the need to, as long as you don’t set it on concrete the carpet backing will usually keep them sharp
Very useful video. Thanks a lot mae
You’re welcome
I would like to see you go around old cast iron radiator but I bet there isn't any down south
carpet guy 1970 i think i have seen some in some of the old houses here so i will keep it in mind
Another great video, I see you've gone back to using your hands with the power stretcher. "nice job" keep them up thanks for sharing.
sausage man yeah I still use my hands on that thicker carpet because if not when I use the spreader I still have to mash it on the strip good with my hands just to make sure the pins grab
Thank you for the great video.
You’re welcome buddy
Interesting video, thanks.
Steve S 👍
Great video thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks buddy
Any time
Great video showing stretching,
What's ur way on making sure poles don't bend for longer distance? Do you like using longer poles you buy separate?
Christian Wilson I just have an extra box that has the extra set of polls in them they’re all the same size and keeping it straight I just don’t try to keep my head piece and a straight line rather be on angle or whatever but as long as it straight in the poles are not bowed to either direction they would usually stay straight, I did a few years ago bought two sets of pole stabilizers they clamped onto your stretch your polls for long distance stretching but that was crap still have them they’re like brand new but they’re crap I would not waste my money on them
Okay thanks!
After you stretch the carpet do you then use the Roberts trimmer to cut it? wouldn’t trimming it get it off the tack strips. I’m a newbie.
+gyver471 No sir trimming it will not pull it off of the tack strip if you have a proper stretch
Great advice and video thanks
liked, subscribed, very grateful that you take your time to help people learn new things.
Fish Buritto thank you
27 years installing carpet and his way of demonstaring enough stretch he might as well kick it in, 1-1.5 % stretch is the recommended amount meaning 1-1.5 cm per meter so thats going to change with the action on the stretcher drastically with his room size of 12 foot he's only getting a third of that
Lord Terrabyte I have only had one call back for restretch in probably 15 years, and that was defected Mohawk carpet, so I guess my stretching is up to par LOL

I know its a meme and frowned upon but this is the perfect carpet for a stinger
D R 😮
Excellent video Southern Boys. Well Done.
+Max36300 thank you sir
Very good video. Watched it twice. My job is to restreach after I get the carpet and pad dryed. I do water restoration. Looks like you're doing the box streach. I like these streaching videos. It's tricky business and not easy work.
ReinSman100 thank you... You’re right it’s hard but I love it
Very helpful
Do people ever comment to you about not liking you giving away trade secrets, and, if so, what do you say to those people? Thank you so much for all the great information!
Jeffrey Peterson Yes sir some people do say that but floor guys have a bad rap especially carpet guys, so I will take the criticism from those few individuals to help out the trade as a whole
I hear you. I like the fact that you stress the point of always doing your very best on the job, and the stuff on being respectful in people's homes. So important.
Jeffrey Peterson Well thank you and you’re absolutely correct
There's no young people learning this trade its all old timers who are dying out so we need new blood learning this trade.
D R since I’ve had this channel I have found out that there is a lot of young people just getting into this trade so that is a good thing , I never knew that until I started talking with people on this channel
Thanks, great info
Mark Swisher thank you sir
You are making me doubt whether i still want to DIM (Do It Myself). Lots of little details to take in for the novice. It is clear you've done a lot of this - your motions are so fluid.
BlackManOps There are lots of aspects of flooring hardwood, laminate etc. that can be done by almost anyone, however I do feel that Carpet is one area of the Flooring trade that should be hired out in order to get a proper install in a long lasting job, if it is just a one room job that you’re doing it’s probably even going to be cheaper to hire someone, most of the time you can get a room of carpet done for a minimum charge of about 130 or 150 and if you rent all the tools to do the job and then the time invested in the install you’re probably going to be better off hiring it out, but either way to Each their own, and I hope you have great success doing your Insta and I hope it turns out beautiful, thank you for watching and thank you for your comment
