Mad TV couldn't find nobody to do it,so they had to bend over backwards to convince him to politely pay him a little more so they could save the time, money, 🤑 (on a very tight budget), effort,and resources in order to hire him...to play the part.
It definitely still can, considering a lot of the original writer’s and developers work for SNL now and are giving them material to work with as well, which is why within the past decade a lot of their humors been racially, sexually, and politically based, within the last decade, something we only saw with MadTv until it was taken off the air due to loosing all their star cast members and money.
It would never be allowed to come back and if so absolutely nothing like this (I think in 2016 or 2018 they tried and it bombed). Even if those writers came back today to do another revival (I mean goddam they had some good writers) and had good talent behind it again they could never get away with what it was back then. The whole climate has changed and yes, truth is everyone is much more sensitive now as well. This show happened in a time when it could be the most hilarious and go after everyone/anything. This is what I loved about MADtv not having constant celebrity hosts like SNLs flavors of the week because you could make fun of everyone and not worrying if you want them to host later on. I think it’s just simply not possible today even if all the cards lined up. SNL could never be this bold. It would lose most of the middle -upper middle class+ white audience that can’t stop watching it week by week. It would just be too offensive for people. 0 audience = 0 Rupees AND no Master Sword 🗡️!!!
