Ppl don't realize you can draft at pretty low speeds with the correct shape of the body of the race vehicle. I have drafted on mini cup cars which is half scale Nascar's literally on huge half mile asphalt oval tracks and have drafted on dirt oval track go karts and full sized asphalt race ars as well drafting and aero dynamics is a factor in alot of forms of racing noatte the speeds
The Ecuadorians race somewhat similar Caretta's. No suspension and slightly larger tires. Speeds up to 75 + and usually the whole bunch leaves at once. Search "Coches de Madera"
Can you imagine this down the back side of Big Bear down into Palm Springs. You could hit unbelievable speeds and some of the corners will surely get your attention. This is awesome!
That’s awesome. That people somewhere in this world still race like that. I haven’t seen this kind of racing anywhere in our area anymore and it used to be big back in the 70s.
I ran a Soap Box Derby in 1963....this brought back great memories!! Congratulations from Atlanta on a great race, great drafting by both cars and a handshake at the end!!!!!!!! just AWESOME!!!!!!!!
A full size Pinewood Derby! In theory, if each car is perfect and driven perfectly, they should finish at exactly the same time. Incredibly small differences in engineering and driving must make the difference. Looks like fun.
That's not correct since both cars cannot occupy the same space therefore competition for the best line must be a factor as well as timing of the slipstream moves and the effect of the uneven road surface on each car.
@@TWW-zk9gw That's why I said if the cars are driven perfectly, which in the real world is not likely to happen. And in a perfect world, the track would not favor either side, which again is unlikely. The keys to success appear to be minimize friction and best use the available acceleration, which, in the theory, should be exactly the same for each car.
The trick here would have been to let the other cart get ahead about 400 metres from the finish, lay back about 15 metres, then draft into them at a higher speed and whip around them just before the finish.
That was exceptionally close! Loved it.. Couldn't hurt to learn drafting in those open wheel "pinewood derby" carts.... I'd actually like to know the specs and rules.. Big difference in wheel size and body profile... Either way... I've never seen this before... Thanks!
very equal cars, the one in the rear could draft, very cool , I did soap box derby in the 60’s so i wish i could get in on this but i think it is not in usa👍
Good race and the guy on the left almost pulled it out. Maybe next year his slip shot is right behind AND NEXT to the guy as he gets the extra inch. Also next time shave that styrofoam sticking up on the right. Airstream wise it might have been that extra inch. I really enjoyed watching this gravity race... I'm not even sure why but it was actually exciting. Next year maybe they'll have a drone following right behind videotaping in 360 circles around has it travels down the hill. Lol
Used to have similar races in Bisbee, AZ years ago. Entrants would come from all over North America to achieve the fastest time past Castle Rock and right down Main St.! Good times!
What a quiet and great race. Nobody could complain about this type of racing... Because it has Zero emissions..but l suspect that Europe would find something to say and produce a law outlawing it .... It's polluting..the atmosphere..😅😅 Maybe new FIA laws on F1 cars too🤔😅😅
I’m watching this instead of the F1 finale and I’m confident with that decision.
The slipstream was insanely powerful
Right? He zoomed past him so fast 😂
I was thinking the same thing. As soon as one of the cars drafted the other they got a boost. Very cool.
Right, same way geese fly, but when you work the breaking spot, it will wiggle it, then it's over, and you gotta swallow that fear of crashing!

No commentary and no stupid music. Thank you.
Would be good with ozzyman commenting 😂
How much you wanna bet that their right foot was pushing hard against the floor ! 😄
Lol 😆 for Real
Adding more gravitational force 😆
and their thumb trying to push the nitro button they don't have. lol
It's funny how slow they are but how intense they are to drive at the same time
i doubt it feels very slow when you are inside them...
@@hjuugoo4416 yeah, like driving slow cars fast
Like rental karts. At least if you've never experienced proper racing karts.
(I imagine. Never driven a racing kart).
Crowding might be an issue.
@@joewoodchuck3824 definitely lmao
One guy spins and the whole race over
Would be very interesting with 5 or 6 of them racing at the same time
Search for corrida de rolimã, here in Brazil this is really common, up to 20 drivers on one race
Some of the races have many competitors and 2 riders

Slipstream mayhem
Great race and wonderful display of sportsmanship afterwards. Cub cars grown up version
Photo finish for sure. Nice clean race.
so close

What an excellent race! Applause from South Carolina USA!
M 58 .............you get hooked on these down hill racers ????
@@dannycalley7777 oh yeah. It looks like a blast.
It was all down hill, from the very beginning 😁
Do any of these competitors realize the GRAVITY of the situation?
Do we really have to go DOWN that road?
I'm surprised this hasn't gathered more MOMENTUM.
Thankfully no one has stepped up to put a stop to this as it RACES rapidly down.
That's heavy doc
Your on a roll

At these speeds the slightest steering adjustment will slow you down enough to count for milliseconds at the finish.
that was a fun watch! i think i got more excited over lead changes then any Indy race ive ever seen
👍 I love the sportsmanship at the end of the race.

Science beef about to breakout….🍿🍿🍿🍿. 🃏👍🏁🎭🍿🍿🍿
@@ChangeIsEverywhere Heh heh!
From what I seen i would stick behind the other guy until close to the end and use the draft to win. Oh, that is what the guy did, haha!
Wow that was awesome. Great race by both drivers!!!
Looks like a lot of fun.
Yeah.. but it's a slippery slope
Absolutely awesome great racing hope the sport get more popular 👍😊
Mucho tread on tires, I was waiting for an off road section to the race. Skinny slicks would increase speed, still a cool race👍
The trick here would have been to let the other cart get ahead about 400 metres from the finish, lay back about 15 metres, then draft into them at a higher speed and whip around them just before the finish.
My guess is that Cuu won.
I love how you can hear the wind noise change when getting into the draft of the other car

And when you can work that drag out, then in and out, you'll slow them down, nerves too!
Ridin' with Daniel Suarez!!! Awesome video!
The starter needs better reaction time. It was too long between them actually starting and he waving the flag 😁
...............
It looked more like the starter was swatting flies than trying to start a race.
No doubt about it .. the camera-car jumped the start.
And poetical lost by a nose so it didn’t matter….
Great race though…. 👍🏻🍻😎
Boy...that guy with the green flag had *such* a crucial role to play!
he was new at his job you got to "start" somewhere
Love it. You have to be a smart driver to achieve the best performance here. Even smarter than engine powered car drivers.
These races teach you how to win when you are not the faster and when you are not alone in a race, when they are not chrono competitions
Too much fun. We race skate carts down mountain roads in WV in the 60’s
One of the strangest ways to sneak drugs into the U.S.
Excellent finish! Great 🏁
Man that was exciting! Now, to go watch paint dry.

I was half expecting him to whip out a book and start reading 😅
This Norwegian invention is so fun - please enjoy!
More overtaking between just these 2 than a typical F1 race !
Damn that was the most intense racing I've ever seen! ^^'
Exciting race , enjoyed that.
This looks like so much fun. Watch both drivers daft each other was really cool.
LOVE IT!! Great racing!!
The wheel bearings are what counts!
Some of the videos I have seen post speeds in a small window on screen. These are fun to watch! Wish I had this opportunity when younger
Great race~! A lot of room for improvement in the aerodynamics department, wheels and hubs too. Now I want to try it!

I don't cate what type of racing it is, THAT was a close finish! 😎 Well done.
Enthralling to watch and amazing how after all that it was such a close finish. SUPER.
Great sportsmanship.
🎇Felicitacions!🎇
Very cool! Just need to add a couple of long boarders in there to spice it up.

Really enjoyed watching this, exciting and fun.
Nice Tarantino shot at the end, expert butt-positioning of the camera from the pilot.

Looks like good wholesome fun. Whole ride I’m thinking about how to make them faster. It’s all in the aero and tires.

what a race -that was fun
This may be the future of local racing. GRL
Such speed. Soap box derby heros!

Great fun to watch and probably doing 40 mph plus? Good race, good gentleman drivers.
Pretty cool racing, or just cruising together really, enjoying the scenery.
This looks like a lot of fun!
That was cool, a sphincter factor of 7.5 for me and I was safe at home, great driving skills 😂 what a rush 😮
Looks like fun!
What was the noise coming from the video car? Sounds like something was loose. Great competition!
The crowds of spectators seemed to enjoy it
Nice to watch this but two questions - who won? And what were their top speeds - I'm guessing 70mph but don't know...
Awesome man!!
Bring back the soap box derby!
Fun race! The other car was definitely faster (more aerodynamic), and its driver could have raced smarter for an easy win.
Great, thanks
I met my best friend during one of these overtakes.
Good clean race 😉🏎️🏁🏆
Man dies of boredom watching gravity race. The end.
You all need bumpers so you can draft. Couple bars on the front going up and down and a couple bars on the rear going sideways.
Would be nice to know just how fast they were going at times
Man that slipstream is powerful
Awesome racing guys. My bien
