This was from the WLWT Cincinnati telecast; Marty Brennanan and Joe Morgan were the commentators. Although the game wasn't nationally televised in its entirety, Major League Baseball allowed CNN to cut-in and simulcast the WLWT broadcast whenever Pete Rose came to bat.
That is a stupid argument that holds no validity. Sponsor or not, it does NOT change the fact that Players, coaches and league officials are forbidden to bet on baseball.. PERIOD.. Rose had his chance Had he owned up to his misdeeds apologized and asked for help, he'd be in the HOF as we speak. He LIED for 15 years and only admitted to it when he was trying to sell a book. He admitted to betting as a player AND manager. I am a lifelong Reds fan and Rose does NOT belong in the HOF
@@stevep8445 Well, players are forbidden to use PEDs. Yet there are suspected juicers in the HOF. Tell you what. Do an investigation of all the players in the HOF. Kick the bums out that don't belong there, and then I am OK with keeping Pete Rose out. Until that happens I will continue to think of it as the Hall of Hypocrites.
It's a damn shame that MLB didn't put Pete Rose in the hall of fame before he died -- especially now that times have changed, and sports betting is a source of revenue for MLB.
Where I lived near an American League team so I never really saw Rose play except for WS and national TV. But, I do wonder if Rose would have beat Cobb's record during Cobb's time. How many of Rose's hits scooted through the fast NL astro turf infields, those unreal bounces too. And, modern MLB played more games, had livelier balls and jet travel. The record belongs to Rose but just wondering.
I had never seen this before. I can't imagne the electricity there the night it happened! He made one mistake and should not have to pay for it for the rest of his life!
Too late now,for him to appreciate it.(10/1/‘24).They oughta’ do it anyway, though.Hell, the fella’ whose record he broke beat a guy to death with a crowbar or somethin’.(Check me on that but you get the point.)💐🇺🇸👍

Ironically Steve Garvey was the first baseman for Padres that night. He was also the first baseman when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth HOME RUN RECORD
I heard this last night on the news and was shocked to hear of his passing. I love Marty Brennaman's call on his record breaking hit.

Who is the guy yelling there it is, get down? He ruined the call. That didn't sound like Joe Morgan. Was it Morgan?
No, it was Joe Nuxhall. He was Marty’s radio partner . Joe Morgan was on TV.

Pete Rose is in heaven today. At least I hope that he is!
I " BET" he is ..😉
Gotta love the scoreboard graphics back then!
legendary call by Marty and Joe.
was Joe Morgan drinking a budweiser?
The Padres pitcher's name is Eric Show.
I remember when he brawled with Andre Dawson after hitting him in the face
It will never be broken 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
it would have if players would of taken that free hit during the shift era
Rest in peace😢😢
Gambling is an official sponsor of baseball. Give the man his hall of fame. The hypocrisy of MLB is astounding.
True anything to make a dollar but they want to keep the hit king out of the hall of fame. What a shame.

Without a Doubt -- Pete Rose is a Hall of Famer --
They said it was Sept. 11 not 8.
Big Sloppy Ortiz in the HOF, and not Pete Rose. What an absolute disgrace. Rest In Peace, Pete. Everyone knows you are a true Hall of Famer.

Remember this like this was yesterday. One of baseball’s greatest moments. Please baseball writers, put Pete Rose in Cooperstown. He deserves it.

@@stevep8445 YES, he does.
