You helped 100%. I was going to buy a window unit and have someone install it for me. (70+ and live alone) Someone got central air and pitched the portable. I got it when they put it to the trash. It Works! You made this look easy enough I think I could do it myself. It's nice to have help so I found a willing helper. Thanks.

I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Here’s some good advice, move the screen to the other side of the attic and just open the damn window. That’s the best way to exhaust the hot air. I would honestly move the screen to the opposite side of the attic and put a really quiet window unit in. A window unit that’s got a programmable schedule or thermostat. So it keeps the attic at a specific temp. That would probably be worth your time.

Hey buddy, you did an excellent job. I think very smart man get on you for a living in Texas. I live in Southwest Florida when it’s hot as balls I bought one of them. Units, same brand 1200 BTU. It doesn’t have the Wi-Fi like yours. Paid 700 bucks for mine. Brand new but unfortunately where it is I have it in my Master Bedroom and I only have a slider. It’s my parents condo or else I was going to go right through the wall and through the stucco these units aren’t that bad but there’s a lot of negative pressure from being only a one hose unit basically pulling air from everywhere it can so they lose a lot of its efficiency just because of that but you did a very good job and it looks clean and they do get nice and cool

Yep, I'm in the same boat. Got an attic room conversion, no windows, and in the Texas heat.
I’m sure there’s a better way but this has worked great so far, we actually go up there now haha

That’s ridiculous. How is your building code? Not allowing for ventilation in an attic you should at least have a big opening for an attic fan years ago. People have attic fans new houses now don’t have attic fans you need attic fan that would make all the difference in the world.
Spend the money and cut into the side of your house and put something in whether it’s a window or an attic fan

But all this while you had a window. You could’ve used all the skill and cutting of things to make some type of adapter for the window so that you could keep the screen there, but open the window and somehow have the elephants trunk vent out the window.
Nice video. Am in the market for one like this. Have central air in my home but the up stair bedrooms take a while to cool and not like the main level or basement. Just wondering if it really does the job of cooling a room and keeping it cool or would it get hot quickly once turned off?
I e had it for some time when it’s not on it gets hit just like it use too, but if I know I’m gonna be up there if I go up there 5-10 min before I got it will kool the room from 81- 73. I only turn it on when we are up there. The electric bill really has not changed much maybe $10-15. We absolutely love it go up there way more but it cools the room really fast I wish I would of done it along time ago
How is the suction pressure? Do yo feel it? I want one of these but I heard these aren't as perfect as the regular window ones.

Well I live in a hotel, so I have a small opening in my room that leads to the hallway, so hopefully I can make use of that instead in my tiny ass room and use blackout curtains for the rest of that so I domt get in trouble with the manager.
They dont have ac in their anyway so hopefully that won't be an issue since I can't use window units.

Update: so I just did it anyway, the worst part of this SOB is setting it up so that the shizzle could connect to the tubing to vent out the hot air.
From then it was as simple as getting the tube into the window and that was pretty simple.

I fell for one while I stayed in a rented sweet trailer back room...it cooled it was quite..for me not sure what type brand but it made a cute bell ting as it started.. the vent suoayically opened the fan vent inside went left to right...I liked when they started through the wall... instead of window...hose is bulky...what about the hose for excess water drainage???;;;

What about the the condensation drain ? The plug on the bottom back of the ac there is a drain it’s supposed to be emptied or drained out of the unit

This portable AC works 100%. I have no central air & having it installed costs at least close to $5,000 in the northeast. My problem is letting the giant hose stay put on the back of this portable AC. I’m looking for solutions.

Since you didn’t plumb the condensation water out…. How often do you empty the internal bin? I had one in a server room we had and it was a couple times a day we had to empty it. I was thinking of plumbing it outside.

I didn’t have one ive been asked that a few times, I run mine everyday for a couple hrs when I’m up there, never drained it ever had it over a year never had any leaks either never had any problems I see one the back where I could connect a drip line I just never had it looks amazing, but I’m no expert this is just what has worked for me I’m sure if you run it most of the day everyday you might need to

What do you plan to do with the condensation that the compressor generates? I have one in a basement room and it gets my floor wet.

Keep an eye on the hose because it becomes very brittle and will break away

Doesn’t it have a line that you have to run from the condensation that builds up? I seen in your video on the back of the unit at the bottom there’s a place where it drains out. What did you do about that?
This must be one of the self evaporating ones. You don’t need to drain those. They drain the condensate through the exhaust. I have one
I think I would’ve just ran some PVC or some metal furnace tubing

A friend just gave me one for my kitchen. The problem is no window except a plant window with screen at top that opens. French doors too. It's over 100 in there central air out. Using window units elsewhere. Need easiest way to make it work. Don't want to cut holes in wall. House is brick. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Did you break that AC down and clean it very well and the coils because if you didn’t clean it when you got it you may find it it’ll work but it’s not gonna work well. I clean mine every year I break the entire thing down you could take it outside as long as you don’t hit electronics and you can completely clean it all with a disinfectant with a spray bottle of bleach you can hose it down just don’t hit the electronics at the top for your buttons

Not on this one, some units you might have to this is a delonghi and I’ve never added or removed any water and it runs cold.
So I’m renting and the window in my attic doesn’t open like air can’t come through. And it’s so hot in there what should I do?
A portable a/c is awesome and will definitely cool it down, it would make it easier espically if renting if you could get that window open
Not sure if I missed it but what do ypu do about the excess moisture drainage ? You'll either have to empty the heavy air conditioning or use a tube to have the draining properly
I’ve never had any moisture ever I can take pics, I dunno if there is a tube in there that is full but I’ve never had to dump anything

That black screw pipe thing in the middle at the bottom. That's a drainage tube for the moisture the machine makes and needs to drain. I used a plastic tube. I have the same model. Unscrew the black thing but make sure you have something because the water will come out . There should be another plug inside the black one but i could be wrong

I live in England my windows are on a triangle roof...if it rains won't all the rain get into the AC pipe?
If your windows are flush with your roof then probably yes it would get in and ruin the unit. If it’s not flush and sticks out a little then it should be fine, I’ve never been to England …. I googled the windows and don’t see many issues but maybe I’m not looking at the right ones. If you could take a pic and send it to my email

Here’s the pain in the ass about having a portable unit, especially up in your attic. The thing is gonna fill with water and you have to get rid of that water and you don’t have to keep stopping to pick it up and dump it out.. you’ll need that thing for a while before you even watch a movie so you may wanna put a hose on it and just have it drip out into a bucket or something. That thing on the wall have a little hose gravity dripped the water out the window.

Not an expert but usually air exhausted is warm because internal fan blows across coil cooling refrigerant and sends it to front coil cold where opposite flow fan blows across blowing cold air into room. Exhaust air is usually warm and creates condensation that collects in bottom pan.
Yeah I get that guess it depends on the unit and the area you live. Most modern portable air conditioners are able to completely remove moisture from your home using the exhaust vent. To do this, the air conditioner sprays water from its condensate tank onto the condenser coil. As the condensate comes into contact with the hot condenser coil, it evaporates. The vapor is then blown out of your house through the exhaust hose.
So it sucks in warm air from outside ?
What happens if you don't run the hose outside and it just sucks from inside the room ?
It sucker the warm air from the inside and send it out, while blowing cold air. The downside is it does suck sone cold air up as well that’s inside. But with that being said I love it couldn’t go upstairs without it

I think our problem is the attic could of used more insulation between the house and roof I think that would help a lot it’s just so hot up there. But I love this little portable unit
We have a small windowless bedroom that my 22 year old sleeps in. It gets very hot even though we have central ac. On the other side of one of her walls is a very large two car garage. Couldn’t I use one of these units and vent it to the garage? We are in New England so it would only be for a few months of the year.

The garage has fumes that could be deadly, which is why houses with connected garages are suppose to have a barrier in the wall to stop any leakage.
You know, unless you Want your daughter to die when fumes from your garage back up through the AC unit.

I hear ppl saying it doesn’t effect the electric bill. Im confused by this as they cost around .15c an hour to use. Thats about $100 a month on 24/7. Maybe you dont use it 24/7?
Yeah I don’t use it 24/7 I’ll turn it on for like 30min to an hour before I go up there then turn it off as soon as I come down

I’ll leave the window permanently open and then put the TV back on the wall and then put louvers on the outside of the house so you don’t get rain coming in
How do you drain the water out?..
Most newer ACs have the condensate water dump into the hot side of the coil. That helps the AC cool more efficiently, while it evaporates the water and dumps the water vapor through the exhaust.
You only have to drain it if you plan to store it for the winter. Though there are some that have heating and cooling features.
How often do u have to drain out water?
It depends on the unit. I have one that evaporates, and one I have to drain when the alarm goes off.
If you’re willing to go to the length of cutting a hole in the wall, you might as well just move the TV
Why use the hose? Why not make a hole and directly put the inlet on the hole you just made?
I'd recommend the hose. The heat damages the hose over time so wouldn't suggest not using it.

@@elitesportsmedia They didn't watch the video till the end where you vented to the outside. Venting into an attic, especially one with limited venting, can cause mold. We see that up north with bath fans. The only thing I would have maybe included in the install would have been a product called a Dryer Dock. It would allow a quick disconnect so it can be moved around. 👍

What a out the drain hose for the water it will collect ,my dual hose pumps a fish air line hose of water out when the tank inside is full ,perhaps drain daily or add a collector tray for over spill , I may make a Ben to a ac roof vent but the mold issue and just remove the attic hose ,
Yeah mine is vented to the outside but I don’t see any kind of catch try for water or anything on this model I have and mine has never leaked or shown water anywhere

Still great so far, and I got it used. I turn it on every time I go upstairs and that’s a daily bases . I don’t run it all day only when I’m up there but it helps so much . When I usually go up there it’s in the 80’s and it keeps it in the low 70’s pretty quick

I have not drained any water, I read that some may leak when I got this one I asked the precious owner he said it did not leak ever. I don’t even see a compartment to remove the water but there is not leaks of yet.
Most portable ac units evaporate the water now.
Not too be a downer but why not put the screen on the wall ur cutting for the AC so u can use the window?

DUDE, you have Black Mold in your pink insulation. Insulation is NOT supposed to be black like that. 😲
PLEASE do something about that, because Black Mold spreads very quickly and is extremely dangerous. 💀
And YES, I own a home and YES my contractor and inspector said the same thing, when I had black in my insulation like that.
There is moisture that is creating condensation which creates mold, and it spreads very rapidly. Get that's stuff out ASAP. I know this video is 4 years old,
and it's most likely you continued to ignore this major problem.

Did you caulk the outside vent with exterior caulking? If not, then water from rain and condensation from the atmosphere will seep into the attic and create more mold. 💀
Thanks for looking out there was two layers of insulation , the first is like a grayish black one the second layer is pink, I think you just seen where I removed some of the gray insulation , but it has been tested for mold about a year ago , we had our dryer vent hose get clogged they came and offered a mold test and another test so we are good thanks for looking out

@@elitesportsmedia Besides, you will eventually get to the noise and won't even notice it. When I was in college, my backyard was basically a RR track. That first week or so, I almost had a heart attack but after about 3 months, I argued my neighbors down that the train no longer came thru there. This noise is nothing. I'm definitely getting one for my basement and I love the dryer vent idea because it's going to have to go thru the siding.
Next time if there is one, save even more money and buy a dryer vent hose, they are the same size and a fraction of the cost

The drain hole is covered. To drain you can remove the hose and uncover the hole and have it drain into something

No problem mine has never leaked any fluid, I just turn it on for like 10 min before I go up there and it cools tremendously. Sometimes its a little loud but after hearing it for be a min you just kinda tune it out. I really have no complaints this model has been excellent when this one goes out I’m getting another one to replace it for sure
