      Giant head maybe but a good looking young man none the less. We were all goofy and had weird body parts we were growing into. Nothing wrong with it. I got teased all the time. Guess what? I can laugh at myself and situations life puts you in.

    I have to say it. These guys won a talent contest in their home town, got to appear on national TV. No videotaping, LIVE!! Knocked it out of the ballpark, went home and were hometown/high school heroes, at 15 years old! Graduated school in 1964, went their own ways with great memories on the road of life. That took GUTS to do what they did at 15. I wish them well, even after all these years.

      “Live”, my foot! No vocal microphones, at least two of the guitars not plugged into amps, a horn-section chord at the end from out of nowhere, and the drum-solo sounds don’t match the drummer’s movements. This is phony as hell, and you’d have to brain-damaged to fall for it.

    • @johnsmythe1841
      @johnsmythe1841 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      *ImaCaMan* I don't know if these kids were ahead of their time, and I don't think they, in any way, sound like the Beatles would sound. These kids were playing Surf Music which was huge back in the early 1960s, and they wore matching clothes, something that was common for rock groups back then. This isn't taking away from their talent, as they sound as good as any professional group of musicians. That drummer, in particular, is throwing down.

    • @ImaCaMan
      @ImaCaMan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Didn't intend to mean that they sounded like the Beatles. However, a guitar-driven rock band in 1961 was a rarity. I was there. :)

    • @johnsmythe1841
      @johnsmythe1841 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      *ImaCaMan* That's cool. I wasn't there, born in 1965, but I'm pretty sure guitar driven rock bands were fairly common in the early 1960's. Dick Dale, The Ventures, the Beach Boys, the Chantays, the Shadows, the Safaris...heck any Surf Music biggies of that time were guitar driven. In fact I think it was Dick Dale who said he wanted the guitars to sound like what surfers would hear when a wave came in; he also said the real surf music was instrumental and that the vocal groups above weren't 'surf music', but were 'surf vocals'. At both's cores, however, was the driving guitar beat.

    • @ImaCaMan
      @ImaCaMan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah, I should have added "..that sing." The Beach Boys were certainly ones, however they were still playing in high schools in 1962. The others are all instrumental groups, which most of them were at that time. Lot's of exceptions, Buddy Holly and the Crickets come to mind, but in 1961 bands that played their own music and sang were a rarity. Anyway, a lot of great music back then.

    • @jojo-fu4xh
      @jojo-fu4xh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Surf music was not popular in 1961. It was soon going to be, but I agree, these kids had a sound a bit before it was popular.
