    All of us are sinners, and deserve God's judgement and punishment of eternity in hell. But despite this, God still loves us, and sent His only Son to die in our place and take the judgement that we deserve, and He raised Him from the dead three days later. If we believe this, and repent of our sins and turn towards God, committing our lives to follow and obey Him, and put our faith in Jesus's blood for our salvation, then our sins are forgiven and we receive eternal life. Repent and accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord today.

    The process: On CSX hump yards, the car starts over the hump. A tag reader reads the digital tag on the car. Then from that data and the switch list data the track and route are determined. Next a radar gun detects the speed. If if rolls too fast the radar will enable the retarders to kick in and slow the car down. Information gathered from the tag reader determines which switches are thrown and which track to direct the car. Sensors along the way give the cars location and enable the computerized control equipment to be ready for the next car. I worked on the Nashville hump when we moved form manual to partial control and were in the major upgrade when I retired.

      Thank you! I've always been fascinated by how the operation works. Your explanation gets to the meat of it and paints a great picture.

    I work in flat yard so I have never humped a train but I am pretty sure the only rule with humping hazardous material is as follows. This is taken right from our rule book "Extra Heavy or Hazardous Material loads will not be humped into a clear
    track when the affected lead at the pullback end is fouled." This means if the car is going into an empty track there can be no crew on the trim end of the bowl that leads into that track. I saw a few comments on here as well about empties and loads. Hazmat loads and empties have different rules governing them. For example, most loaded hazmat cars must be placed at least 6 cars away from any locomotive, shoving platform, or caboose while empties only have to be one car away. There are also different classes of hazmat cars that have different rules. Some loaded cars do not have to be spaced depending on which class they are in. I hope this is helpful.

    Driving up to Rochester New York right now. I stoped at Enola Yard and watched the trains for a while. A few miles north of the yard I saw NS1069!

    Thanks. As a new brakeman for the now defunct SP, an agreement between the company and union found me and another newbie after our OJT working in Inglewood Yard [hump] in Houston for 90 days. It was actually good experience. Seeing those now covered auto container cars reminds me that back in the day [1960's], vehicles had nothing to protect them. The auto rack cars of the day were wide open. Anyway, someone on the hump pulled the pin on a car loaded with brand spankin' new Pontiacs. When it slammed into cars already in the track, new cars went everywhere. I'm almost certain someone lost their job.

    I looked pretty close and didn't see placards on those tank cars, so there were probably not hazmat. Actually most are not. Corn sryup is the largest volume commodity moved by RR tank cars.

    4:38 - Impressive that NS has figured out how to get cars to roll uphill.

  • @whiteknightcat

    So almost half the video was watching a vehicle train leave the yard, and the rest was watching the pin puller working as cars were crested, or watching the top halves of the cars as they rolled into the bowl.

  • @jcfishing539
    @jcfishing539 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We are allowed to hump certain tank cars loaded or residue cars, we are allowed to cut them off in 2s as well. It all comes down to the chemical..

    Question: when a car is cut loose at the top of the hump to start rolling down, the air hose separates. Why doesn't that cause the brakes to automatically apply?

    • @woofiny
      @woofiny 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Almost all switching and humping activities are done with uncharged brake lines and cylinders.

    N.S. mist be cheaping out on locomotive maintenance, judging by the amount of blue smoke coming from the two units!

    • @piedmontdistrictrailfan1741
      @piedmontdistrictrailfan1741  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blue smoke is normal when pulling a heavy load. NS takes good care of their equipment from what I hear, but I don't work for the railroad so I don't really know.

    I wondered the same thing about Hazmat tank cars being humped... Perhaps they are empties???

    • @desertfox2020
      @desertfox2020 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe even empty hazmat cars are to be treated as full because they still contain remnants of the load, unless the receiver washes them out after unloading- which is a rare practice. I'm surprised the FRA allows them to ignore that rule without serious penalties.

    • @jcfishing539

  • @KevinBenecke
    @KevinBenecke 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If they're not supposed to hump tank cars, someone should turn them in to the proper authorities because they obviously don't care about peoples safety if something was to happen.

    • @jcfishing539
      @jcfishing539 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Benecke we are allowed to hump tank cars depending on what type of chemical it is, or if it's a residue tank car. The only way to know if it's empty is to look at the bolster or the consist. No need to try and turn anyone in, if we do something wrong they are on us before you can make the call lol

    • @piedmontdistrictrailfan1741
      @piedmontdistrictrailfan1741  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't unsafe, so there wouldn't be any reason to turn anyone in. From what I understand, when cars which are not supposed to be humped are humped, it is usually because the yardmaster is trying to get a train out of the yard faster. It's not the fault of the employees.

    • @piedmontdistrictrailfan1741
