This is the best explanation of alphas out there!! I have been really enjoying your series so far and has helped me soo much!
Thank you for putting this out there

If you hold CTRL+mouse drag+SpaceBar you can move the Mask Rectangle about. This is mentioned in the next video in the series but wasn't said here

Sir, what about alpha mask that created from photoshop of the uv of the mesh itself, so i can match with the map of the uv mesh without using drag rect.

if your mesh has uvs and a texture map, you'll have to polypaint > polypaint from texture, then masking > mask by color > intensity or pick the color you want the mask to come from to mask the verts containing the color from the original texture

Obviously masking is cool for adding branded content like maybe a logo BUT to get utterly butterly smooth extrusions you need a lot more detail "I'm guessing" as all the examples here are jagged to say the least... so I'm guessing the best workflow is using sub tools to add details without the distortion and jagged edges, on low poly meshes? Or then crank up the subdivision level before adding details and possibly using this massively dense mesh to bake the detail into a low poly mesh? Any videos on that workflow?

There's 9 or 10 better options out there for extrusions, Part 1 of this series only scratches the surface. In production I wouldn't bother with an extrusion, I'd just live boolean what I needed, but there might be some techniques in this video you can utilize as well: th-cam.com/video/W7GYNFAzxtA/w-d-xo.html

When I see the links to the advanced zbrush videos, it's difficult not to demoralize a little by the complexity of them because I'm still in rookie mode and I have to say to me: "calm down, you'll eventually get there..."

I know how you feel.... I've had this software for 10 years and I keep installing it and could never get past the transpose tool... this Michael guy seems to explain it well but ZBRUSH is an explosion of tools and workflows... just have to use it a lot to get hungry for *new stuff. I'll be happy if I just get the basics down so I can sculpt or hard surface model something... previously I've used MODO but it's not as powerful as ZBRUSH for handling mesh intense organic meshes

I'll get past the transpose tool and others and keep going. This year I feel motivated.

Mask Pin? I know you mean pen, but it really sounds like pin!
