There was absolutely nobody as mainstream and in the public eye back then than Madonna who was giving a voice to people of colour, people of the LBGQ community, AIDS, the list goes on. She was and still is a powerhouse and has always used her platform to stand up for what she believes in. This is why it pisses us off when people limit her because she got older. Getting older doesn’t by any means make you any less of a powerhouse. She’s still kicking ass and we should all be grateful for all she ever did when nobody else ever was. Period.
I usually tune in for your BTS reactions but I was tickled to see this one. I’m 55 and I remember very well when this video came out and the controversy surrounding it. This song was supposed to be in a Pepsi commercial but it was pulled (but Madonna got to keep the money). She’s had some health issues but I love seeing her still doing her thing out there on stage. Great reaction!
Madonna has always used her voice and platform to speak out for minorities like black people, the LGBTQ+ community as well as HIV/AIDS patients. She still continues speak on behalf of and regularly raises money for many of her and others charities. She is a true artist in that her songs, albums, music videos and live stage performances. ❤❤
MADONNA IS THE ULTIMATE! There will not be another influential artist!! She’s the only one! Be ready to be moved inspired and revolutionized! ❤ Start from her beginning Wikipidea her singles history! ❤
The song and video was both a debate with Madonna's own strict catholic upbringing and a statement against racism like racial profiling, KKK (the burning crosses), white woman and black saint etc. The video offenended many, many people, especially fundamentalistic christians and the Vatican wanted to excommunitcate Madonna. Pepsi canceled its sponsorship for the upcoming tour and draw back the harmeless commercial used for Pepsi's advertising campaing (however Madonna could keep the 5 Mill $). One year later in 1990 Pope John Paull II called Madonnas Blond Ambition Tour "one of the most satanic shows in the history of humanity".
Im from Chile, last place in this planet, and even here we knew about the controversy of this video, it was a global stuff, and very powerful, in those days it was still fresh in many peoples minds the meaning of the burning crosses and the kkk. This video changed music history, because it was the first time, and maybe the only, that a pop female singer would use her fame to speak about Homosexuality, Aids, Religion, Racism, etc.
You fellas did good with this reaction. Madonna still old and ya'll still fat but respect for getting the video's message. Madonna been fighting for gays, blacks and brown people since she was homeless in manhatten at the beginning of her career. She's also type A Leo woman so she'll kick ya'lls silly asses into shape. She trained for months to play a baseball player in a movie , dated Dennis Rodman and Tupac so ya know. At 65 she's currently on an 80 city world tour in short a survivor with icon status. Yes Madonna older but she aint Michael, Prince or Whitney....her contemporaries all dead fyi.
She don't need to slow down at all, she's doing incredible on her tour. She hasn't missed a single show (Beyonce and Taylor have), so just because some dancer tripped doesn't mean she needs to slow down.
In the video as I interpret it she couldn't say anything because she was already dead, they put the wrong guy in prison, the last scene is just thinking what could have been if she was still alive.
Considering she has a humongous catalog, here are my recommendations for you: Vogue, Express Yourself, Jump, 5 Minutes, Hung Up, Take a Bow, and Frozen.
There is so much symbolism in this video. Unfortunately, so much of it is not grasped. A woman witnesses an act of evil and an innocent man being falsely accused but she fears for her own safety. She goes to a church for sanctuary where she prays to a saint (Martin de Porres, the patron saint of mixed race people and racial harmony). She lies down on a pew and falks asleep and dreams of falling into the arms of an angel and being raised back up by her. She also dreams of picking up a knife, the weapon used to murder the woman, and finds stigmata on her palms. She dances in front of a hillside of burning crosses while represent the intimidation, which to me, symbolizes that she must turn her back on those fears. Through the dream she realizes she must become a savior for the falsely accused man and testify on his behalf. That the falsely accused man and the saint are the same actor (Leon) who was in many of her videos, tours and her documentary, “Truth or Dare”, is not a coincidence. Neither is the fact that the church and the jailhouse are the same set. And that’s just the story told in the video. In real life…Pepsi paid her $5 million to do a commercial in which this new song was featured and were sponsoring her upcoming tour. Then she released this video and shit hit the fan! The “moral majority”, politicians, the Catholic Church, including the Pope himself all condemned it and called her blasphemous. She stuck to her guns. She kept the money. She found a new sponsor for what became another hugely successful tour. And now, 35 years later this video has been watched billions of times, the song is iconic and she’s still going strong. And dude…65 year old Madonna could run laps around you. You’re playing hoops. She just completed another sold out world tour with 81 dates that ended with a free concert in Rio de Janeiro attended by 1.6 million people.
MADONNA did not fall as you stated, her dancer dropped her. But I applaud you for taking the first step into going in the rabbit hole of the 40+ Years this QUEEN has been using her platform to fight for minorities. Her white privilege gives her a voice and she knew and still knows how to use it. If you want to really be impressed, check.iut all her LIVE performances.
so dude in the blue likes to stereotype and use ageism against someone who is truly capable as they said it wasn't her fault she fell. And, honestly, everybody falls at all ages. But, he's annoyed when people are fatphobic, and generalizing how fat people aren't athletic. Apparently, the dude is blind and not seeing the logic gaps here.
Ok, so you get butthurt if someone says you don’t do anything cuz you’re a big boy, yet age discriminate on Madonna for being 65??? The woman is quite literally a living legend, who almost died months ago and is currently on a sold out tour. She has slowed down since her prior years, but is she in no way too old to still be in the game, especially the game she helped shape, with Prince & Michael.😮😊
@@NBUReacts - I agree, and trust me she has slowed down, she was a physical machine up until the later 2000’s, if you ever get to see her tours, she used to train like an athlete. This current tour has her not as physical, but she’s just a true artist and stubborn Leo, who’ll keep going until she just can’t.( lol) I do hope you deep dive from her early career until current, it’s quite the astonishing career, great reaction!!

Do not limit her or anybody else because of their age for you too will be old ( if you’re lucky) and in doing so you’re only limiting yourself when you reach that age. Ageism is also a thing.
Martín de Porres Velázquez OP (9 December 1579 - 3 November 1639) was a Peruvian lay brother of the Dominican Order who was beatified in 1837 by Pope Gregory XVI and canonized in 1962 by Pope John XXIII. He is the patron saint of mixed-race people, barbers, innkeepers, public health workers, all those seeking racial harmony,
Madonna has long been a pioneering advocate for racial equality, championing the cause well before the Black Lives Matter movement gained prominence. Her steadfast opposition to racism is a testament to her principles, and she has historically shown zero tolerance towards discriminatory attitudes. A notable manifestation of her advocacy occurred in 1989 with the release of her music video for "Like a Prayer." This video is imbued with racial themes, most notably through the imagery of burning crosses, a direct reference to the Ku Klux Klan's reprehensible practice of cross burning as a tool of terror against African Americans. This act was intended to intimidate and forcibly displace black individuals from their homes, reflecting the Klan's status as one of the most infamous hate groups of the era. By choosing to dance provocatively in front of these crosses in her video, Madonna not only challenged the Klan's ideology but also aimed to publicly denounce their actions, positioning herself as a bold critic of racial hatred. Her actions contributed to a broader dialogue on racial issues, at a time when the Klan's influence was pervasive, marking a significant stance against racial injustice. This artistic choice by Madonna serves as a powerful statement against racism, highlighting her role as a vigilant advocate for civil rights
If you didnt know, Prince didnt just play guitar on that, he wrote that. But it took over 30 years to admit the guitar. Prince wrote that completely. Just take a real listen.
Of course she´s old, and also the best artist ever for many reasons: videos, songs, albums, tours and other performances, a few good movies, and always controversial normally for the right reason.
Look at you guys - doubling your Madonna catalogue.😂 There’s no video for the song with Prince. It was an album deep cut. That guitar riff at the beginning of this song was also Prince.
The highly controversial[64] accompanying music video for "Like a Prayer" was directed by Mary Lambert and was filmed in January 1989 at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, California, and at San Pedro Hills in San Pedro, California.[65] Madonna wanted the video to be more provocative than anything she had done before.[65] She wanted to address racism by having the video depict a mixed-race couple being killed by the Ku Klux Klan. But on further thinking she finalized on another provocative theme to keep with the song's religious connotations. Madonna would play the song over and over again, and wanted the visuals to display, [T]his story of a girl who was madly in love with a black man, set in South, with this forbidden interracial love affair. And the guy she's in love with sings in a choir. So she's obsessed with him and goes to the church all the time. And then it turned into a bigger story, which was about racism and bigotry.[8] Lambert had a different visual aspect of the song on her mind. She felt that it was more about ecstasy, especially a sexual one, and how it related to religious ecstasy.[65] She listened to the song with Madonna a number of times and together decided to include the ecstasy part on the video.[65] A sub-plot about Madonna as a homicide witness was included, which became the trigger for the sexual and religious ecstasy.[8] Leon Robinson was hired to play the role of a saint; the part was inspired by Martin de Porres, the patron saint of mixed-race people and all those seeking interracial harmony.
You'll learn to realise that Madonna fans are very very defensive of the Queen haha! I would love it if you started from her back catalogue and did a Madonna deep dive you'll be shocked and amazed how good her music is. Like a Virgin is crap compared to her other songs, yet some people think it's all she's known for! Start from the beginning with Madonna and I'll definitely subscribe
I love Madonna 🫶🏼🩷... but I need to know who is going in on my brother Tree and my boy Green....cause I swear ppl love to be tough behind the screen... Madonna has some pretty good jams. Trust me, ya'll would like her other songs
Dude why you gotta be so sexist and ageist ? Bet you would never say that about Mick Jagger or Bruce Springsteen or any male for that matter. What a shame.
As for this video, Madonna has always stuck her neck out to champion every diverse group and especially in this video in 1989. She was BLM before it became a trend, and this video and topic of racial injustice and profiling, cost her a Pepsi tour deal, and got her a huge amount of hate and excommunicated from the Catholic Church.also, the guitar riff in the beginning was actually Prince, whom she duetted with on a song on this album.
Madonna fighting for justice since the ‘80s
There was absolutely nobody as mainstream and in the public eye back then than Madonna who was giving a voice to people of colour, people of the LBGQ community, AIDS, the list goes on. It was likely St. Martin de Porres.
