LOVE this Q&A! I’ve said this before, and I’ll mention it again…Mr. Bones is an unsung hero of this channel for being so supportive of your obscene, niche talent - and I for one am so appreciative because this is the BEST crochet design channel on the internet. I have learned SO much from you, Thursday! And because of you, I think so much bigger and better with my crochet than all of the basic, boring patterns out there. So I thank you for sharing so much experience and knowledge, and send a big thank you to you, Mr. Bones! I think we should see more of you on the channel. 😄
Will you ever make a book about how to design crochet patterns? I LOVE your video tutorials, but I'd love to have a condensed book or PDF version I can quick reference when I want to start designing!
I so appreciate your masterclass videos. I'm very literal and I struggle with applying concepts unless I fully understand the process. You're the first source I found that actually explained the math and that made everything click for me. Plus, there's a ton of information about how to make a sphere, but there aren't a lot of videos or articles explaining the why behind more complex techniques.
Best intro ever!!! Lol. I’m soooo sorry about the ‘wet event’. How awful. And”poor square granny” haaaaahaaaaaaa! I’m an “Oma” and love granny squares - just a play on that, lol. Thanks for the giggle 😊 What a fun video! Thank you to you and Mister Bones!! ☺️🫶🏻🧶
Hi, I just found your channel and also love dragons. I taught myself how to crochet. I’ve been doing lots of crocheting. I’m not the best by any means but I try all the time. I want to make a dragon and I don’t want to mess it up. It is something that I’ve wanted to make for a very long time. Will be watching all your videos for skills that i”m lacking. Thank you.
Oh my goodness, I crochet inside out!!! I’m also self taught, have been crocheting for 16 years, but never realized until I got more into crochet TH-cam. It actually gives me hope I could correct it to know you started that way too 😂
You and Mr. Bones are absolutely lovely! I enjoyed this more personal video. I have said on other videos I enjoy the way you use yarn sculpturally -- I wanted to be an architect in my teens, I am a beader/wire artist, I love putting "stuff" together to create something new and interesting and beautiful. I believe that us what you do! Thank you for all you do and many blessings for many more videos!! (And best wishes for fixing your home)
id have to say one of the best places to learn to crochet is from club crochet, while there is a subscription to access all his patterns he does have free ones. Most of them have very easy to follow video tutorials to go along with the written patterns where he takes his time to show each stitch, and he also has plenty of left handed tutorials for you lefties out there! (something i very rarely see.)
Loved the video, and I agree you don’t need a “beginner” pattern to start learning, my first non blanket project was the marigold dragon pattern (which did take me a few months haha) but it came out amazing!! I haven’t stopped crocheting since!
I crocheted inside out for about a year after I started crocheting amigurumi and I am so happy to see that you used to as well 😂 I was so frustrated when I was crocheting inside out and for some reason nothing turned out like it was supposed to based on the pattern.
okay so you and mr bones doing an interview style thing is so great. I enjoyed this so much. Also, have you considered doing a stream where instead of rapid fire pokemon, doing maybe one creature but you start with the inspiration and sketch and end with the creature? eta: i do love slip stitch mew
I was crocheting inside out as well for years... I learned in school and from my lefthanded grandmother so somehow doing it inside out made sense... ... Until I found youtube crochet tutorials and everybody kept telling me I was doing it "wrong"
actually! i made a bluey pattern with color work in continuous rounds for the body and it said to do front loops only all around and it made the stitches stack on top of each other nicely. it makes the work feel a bit different but it’s worth a shot if you’re doing color work in amigurumi. i’m not sure if that’s exactly what they’re talking about but i think it could help someone
To answer your question.... I learned how to Crochet 1 yr ago and now I am teaching it so I feel like how I did it was really good. I watched a combination of your's (ComplicatedKnots) and a few other people's tutorial videos before I even picked up my hook( probably for a few months because my nephew was trying to teach himself and I was in charge of finding him videos he could follow and we would watch them together while I knitted) , so I was just watching and developing a sense of what things are supposed to look like and since everybody has a different set up the variety of people I watched allowed me to see things from different angles and just understand what was going on better. Then I went to Lousy Llama and got one of her kits and the combination of the Lousy Llama kit and helping my nephew who at the time was slightly further along then me allowed me to finally do it myself. Having watched all of the tutorial prior to doing it myself I feel I was able to pick up techniques faster then if I had never seen them prior to trying to do them so I do feel it helped. I also work inside out, I found out because I was making a banana that had me work into the back looks and then in the Front look it attach the peel later but when I want to add my peel I didn't have any front looks because they are inside the already closed up banana. ooops.
For some reason I never imagined Mr Bones having a beard haha I imagines more...boney :P Your drawings are amazing. :) I feel like you went from a bit of a boring job to a really fun one that's both pretty different but still working with figures and calculations and stuff which is interesting. The cycling through hobbies thing I fully identify with. I've gone through knitting, quilting, sewing, painting/drawing, miniatures, resin and now crochet though I've started knitting again too but I feel crochet is a definite favourite and a lot cheaper than resin art haha. Caterpickle!!!! :) 'Only buy what I use' I wish I could do this, my house is being overtaken by yarn haha Community - I'm glad this is your biggest accomplishment because it is somewhere I finally feel I belong :) Its a wonderful group of people and I'm happy you collected us all That sphere btw as you are going is looking like you are making Mr Bones a brain for his skull :) I enjoyed this video sorry for the long disjointed post as I was typing as I was watching hahaha
On learning to crochet i started with a video that taught stitches then one on making a ball bc i was liking crochet but not making flat stuff. Then honestly complicated knots and a couple books were where i learned to experiment and try new stitches and how to shape. (I have obscure animal and pokemon obsessions so sometimes there is not a pattern so i gotta trial and error myself) I really used the stuff i learned for a tinkatink last summer and now a coelacanth wip.
Where to go to learn crochet? Scroll thru complicated knots vids til you find the one you're invested in and thursday will walk you thru every step of the way!
in response to poopstain24's question, while it's mostly just the same handful of techniques and stitches used, i would recommand trying some afghan blocks, which I think can be best described as more intricate granny squares (and maybe also more complex). for the few patterns i tried, i find working on two layers very intresting I do also agree on designing your own creation, it's a fun exercice
Idea for the 100K celebration: someone from the community could design a pixel art that represents the channel in some way. This could then be translated into a grid pattern for a tapestry crochet??
@@ComplicatedKnots wow lucky guess 😂 I just thought it was a cool idea and much easier than the hundred thousand stitches. Can't wait to see how it turns out :D
My son,14, started watching you with me while you're making the pokemon. He wants to know if you'll ever make mario and the gang, among us, or sonic and the gang?
Tell me that's a brain you're crocheting in the thumbnail. I need a brain for something & your's would be better than any other I could find or create.
Supportive partners are the best. Well done Mr bones for supporting CK. We all appreciate you support
Oh my gosh the pug on your shelf looks so freaking good!! Really hope you do end up making a video for him!🥹🥹

I’m so sorry y’all are still dealing with the burst pipe debacle 😢. But I’m super excited for the video!!🥰
The pipe has recently been fixed! Still working on the floors though XD
So happy to hear it's fixed!!!
@@ComplicatedKnots yay! Glad it’s fixed!
I learned to crochet from your channel and would 10/10 recommend! 😊 You do such a good job of showing every stitch and making the patterns clear
I love the Mr Bones intro.

I love the Heidi Bear's patterns. I've made 2 hippos, giraffe and a frog. I'm busy with Smaug. It's my mindless activity when watching TV.
I was not expecting Mr Bones voice saying "hello it's Thursday" that threw me for a loop 😂
Thank you for the chat, I am working away on a long crochet project. It is nice to hear about you enjoying crochet and design!

I just love your work!! you are so talented!! So glad I found your channel and am so excited to make some of your designs.
Wow I would’ve guessed you had way more yarn than than the background but thank you for answering my question 💕

If you speak portuguese one of the BEST channels to learn amigurumi is Two Bee - Bia Moraes, and for general crochet is Marcelo Nunes Croche

Will the pug be a pattern ?
Can you do a hyperbolic pseudosphere tutorial please?
Fiberflux and Bag-O-Day here on TH-cam are both great for newer crocheters.
Are you going to be sharing the pattern for the hyperbolic sphere?
Magic ring 6sc. Then inc in every stitch until you can't anymore. I think I'm on row 9ish.
🤙🏻
Will the Pug dog be the next tutorial?!

Did you know that temu is selling a kit for a crochet dart frog that has you picture and youtube video?
Unfortunately, yes, and I have requested it's removal. Gotta love thieves, right?
Uh, I think I also have been crocheting inside out…😅
