somewhat justified tho, in that spike was never anywhere near as evil as angel, nor as reflective, and reformed himself substantially before earning his soul back himself, whereas even now angel's has to be forced onto him. indeed, the moaning in the basement was more about the first evil fucking with spike's head than it was about past regrets.

Yeah, keep in mind, the whole point of the curse is to make Angel suffer. If he'd just gotten his soul back some other way, it probably wouldn't have taken very long for him to get over it.
Such a drama queen. If angel had got his soul back for himself then yes he would be entitled to whine about how spike only spent those 3 weeks in that basement. That's what happens when you're the naughtiest boy

James Marsters is one of the most underrated actors. But he's such a decent guy, I've only heard good things about him.
And he isn't James Marsden, who shall never be forgiven for the "Imagine" cover. ;0)

It's played for the comedy, at that point, neither one of them would actually do it if even if they thought it was easy X). But it always makes me laugh.

Love it. Spike is the only one that could pretty much fight Angel to the death and then go back and fight alongside him. That’s brotherly love

Spike basically made up about 80% of the sarcasm and snarkiness of the entire series since he came around. He was an extension of the audience: always had something to say about each character, had nicknames for them, knew exactly how to solve problems (usually involved killing someone for shits and giggles), and just wanted to bang a hottie.
When Cordelia left Buffy they brought spike in, when she left Angel they brought him in
I always laughed when he used to call Riley Captain Cardboard because that's literally what Riley was. A boring cardboard cutout of a character.
I don't know how Riley never got called Cornflake. The blandest of all the bland cereals, its fits him perfectly. Anyway it's true, Spike became Cordy's replacement in both shows though I feel Anya did a much better job as Cordy on Buffy.

+T_ Glab No, Spike got his soul so that Buffy would accept him. Literally, the first thing that he did when he thought the chip stopped working was to kill someone. He decided to get a soul after a freaking rape attempt! And knew that he couldn't be what Buffy wanted without a soul. Vampires aren't capable of being truly altruistic.
Well yeah...and Angel got his soul as a curse and had way more remorse because while Spike merely caused destruction wherever he went, Angel enjoyed torturing people to no end. Plus having a soul doesn't change Spike's personality, while Angel becomes threat number one to the main cast whenever he doesn't has his. Also at first when Angel had his soul back he tried to keep being evil because that was his true self. I'm with T_ Glab, everything is fair about it, Spike fought for his soul, Angel had it forced on him as punishment.

+Mauro Sansalone Angel never tried to keep being evil when he got his soul, he still hung around with his old gang which included Darla, Dru and Spike because he had no one else to turn to but he never did anything evil. Darla even pointed out that he only killed criminals, murderers and rapists after he got a soul, which was why she gave him an ultimatum when she tried to force him to kill a baby and Angel still couldn't do it. Again, Spike didn't get a soul for noble intentions, he only got a soul because he knew it was the only way that Buffy could accept him. He didn't even understand what exactly it meant to get a soul, as proven by the fact that in the scene Buffy figures out that he has a soul, he rants about not knowing the kind of guilt it would bring him. In short, Spike wanted a soul pretty much because he knew Angel had one and thought it was an easy way into Buffy's heart. It was a decision made with little to no account for the consequences or the responsibility of actually having a soul.

Season 5 was utterly the best of Angel! With the addition of Spike, it was like watching someone's best written fan fiction come to life.
Spike fits so much better with Angel's crew. He always felt like an outsider with the Scoobies. But here, everyone but Angel actually welcomed him despite his past.
I love that Angel and Spike spent so much time not getting along, but as soon as Fred's life was at stake they immediately united in mission and voice. That's one of my favorite things that happened in the final season.
Kind of ironic, though. The one time they unite for a cause they both care about and they fail. Every other time, they don't get along at all but they get the job done and reach a relatively happy ending, but when they actually work together for once, they fail and Fred dies anyway.

They did not fail. They were heroes you 'nit'. They refused to save Fred because doing so would have killed tens of, if not hundreds of thousands of people. They let her die! There is a difference... seriously do you guys actually watch these shows.

Sure it was the darker, more grown-up spinoff show from Buffy, but they still had great comedy moments in the show.

The "Smile Time" episode was so ffing brilliant.
that same guy who wrote it went on to do supernaturals best episodes, the talking teddy bear is one of them. i was sad when he left supernatural, because his character cas became lame after and there were barely any good wacky episodes after.
I remember hearing somewhere that James was worried because he heard that his part in the episode was so small, but they told him he'd pretty much steal the whole show with it. And that's exactly what happened. *grins*
The puppet episode counts as one of the best episodes of all time in both Buffy and Angel. Spike fighting it was truly hilarious.

Joss Wheadon was a sheer genius of a scenarist! The humor, even the wackyness of otherwise very intelligent scenarios, made Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel two amazing stories about gouls, vampires and heros who fought them, fun to watch and follow from an episode to another. James Marsters and David Boreanaz were a duo of odd balls both adorable, despicable, handsome and entertaining to watch from a story to another.
