I just love spikes origin. There's so much emotional complexity. Especially when you find out his great love went on to become a revenge demon who punished bad parents. You just know she loved him too and her parents forced her to dump him.
There's a "noncanon" comic explaining the event from Halfrek's perspective. (It was part of the official comics though it wasn't written by Joss.) Spoilers: Halfrek was working as a vengeance demon under the guise of Cecily. She was at the party to carry out a vengeance curse on the guy whose 30th birthday it was as she had cursed his entire line generations ago. Her rejection of William may show that she may have liked him because it saved his life as the party was fated to be a deadly disaster due to the curse. She granted William's wish that "they were the bloody ones" and murdered everyone there. More than a century later, she returned to off the last remaining man from the direct line and Spike intervened as the hapless guy (who happened to be a poet) reminded him of himself and he was still bitter about Cecily's rejection perceiving her actions towards him as some act of vengeance at first. He managed to end the curse, though the guy died anyway. Halfrek admits she likes him and they kiss before Spike rejects her and throws her "beneath me" line back at her.

i love tabula rasa that was funny asf. as for the finale, i saw someone say that maybe the reason spike said no you don’t was because he knew if he said it back to her in that moment, she would have stayed there and died with him. i’m not sure if that’s what the writers intended to do but i love it. atleast spike died a hero’s death, he redeemed himself and finally got those three words said back to him by buffy.
To this day Spike is my favorite character, without a soul he cared and loved. I did like Angel but it took him having a soul to feel what he did for Buffy. Also, Spike's Sid Vicious/Billy Idol look isn't dead. If someone were to take a similar look in 2019 and not have a poser vibe it would still appeal to me. I still like the punk look, if done right.
@@willscorner8423 10 years ago I swear I didn't see anyone who rocked that style. At most someone might've had a long leather jacket. I was in my early 20's then as well.
Thanks a lot for this video! I especially loved sharing from both Juliet and James together: it's evident that he admired her a lot and that they did have a special actor's connection from the beginning.
yeah they should've brought back juliet when they brought james back so we'd have more of that magical chemistry between them and it would be so interesting if it turned into a love triangle with buffy and all the drama that would result, sans harmony and all that nonsense. the 2 episodes that dru showed up in season 5 were my absolute fav of the whole season and took my breath away
I'm currently binging Buffy for the first time on my own this year, and I know for a fact I go through the episodes so quickly just so I can finally get to the episodes that have Spike in them. I'm in season 3 right now, so I can't wait until he starts showing up more often.
Out of all the shows and movies that I’ve ever watched I think that Spike was my absolute favourite character . There was just so much to his character and James portrayed him incredibly well. The roll would never be the same without him and the show wouldn’t be the same without him.
Having heard James talk about his girlfriend at the time's jealousy regards to his and Juliet friendship, you can kind of understand why. Their chemistry is off the scale. I'm a self confessed Spru shipper but the stark contrast Spike had in his demeanour to everyone other then the one he displayed towards Dru was my favourite version of him. He always had some humanity in him, over a hundred years with a highly fragile, oft erratic and somewhat flaky partner says a lot. I don't hold Dru responsible entirely for her faults as had they met as humans with a little change in birthdates they'd have been perfect for one another. Dru always saw the dreamer and creative side to William and prior to her turning Dru was devout and pious.
I never thought Spike was a deep character, I actually preferred Angel; but I have been rewatching Buffy with my daughter: she said, that out of the two, Spike was by far the more interesting; so I've been watching, and I can honestly say, Spike is a more well rounded character: he has a lot more personality; I think there is more heart, and soul invested in Spike ( a little ironic, I know). I have found myself falling in love with this character, and even rooting for him to get with Buffy ( I watched Buffy years back, as a teen); I think Spike shows a lot of emotion, which has kind of dampened his blood lust: but you can relate to him more, as he was human to begin with. Buffy is a show, that has stood the test of time; my daughter loves it: she's 18 years old: it is one of the best written shows, I rate it over 'The Twilight Saga'.
@@annmosh3290 even without a soul, he done good. he helped the scoobies and even helped raise dawn while buffy was dead. he went out and got his soul out of pure love for her.
@@joanna7350 yeah, I couldn’t get why everybody is always so harsh to him with soul or without but Angel is immediately forgiven once the soul is back.
And in many ways it did turn into the Spike Show, and by Whedon's hand no less, he made him the super-star by Season 5. Spike by the end of season 5 was his best version. No soul, yet deeply in Love with Buffy.
Always loved Spike I really felt for this character when he was William how he worshiped his mom and he was so sweet and kind, then his mom was so cruel to him you just saw his heart break, then you really understood why when he becomes spike he goes really crazy and off the rails.Deep down hes still that young sensitive guy wanting to be loved.
You can see why Spike was so different from Angel as a vampire even without a soul he had some Humanity in him. Because as a human he had such strong personality traits his extremely sensitive loyal and kind personality never did leave him. Where Angel as Liam was a drunk womanizer who had problems with his father and could never get his approval and fought in bars. And had very little attachments. With the exception of his sister Kathy.
Even though Spike from the beginning is so different from what he became at the end, I always loved him. Is such a good character and has a beautiful development.
Is it just me, or is it odd to hear him with out the accent.. I was waiting for him to speak in his accent 😂😂😂😂 James marsters is unbelievably gorgeous
Okay I'm reading the comments and yes spike is awesome but can we also admit that Dru is a goddess! I think she really is a part of what made him just pop! (and Im not just saying that because I'm in love with her but... I am )
The story I heard, is that Anthony Head, once he knew Spike was going to be a regular, kept turning up in James' trailer to teach him a decent English accent because he didn't want the British to be insulted...😂😂😂
OMG I haven’t seen this show in almost 20 years and I can still remember some of these scenes. I loved when they showed how he became a vampire. It was fun to see him acting so differently in the past.
They were so damn memorable. Rewatching Angel for the first time in 20 years at the moment and I'm amazed how much I remember word for word, scene by scene.
Rewatching rn. The ep with cassie who had predictive abilities hittin different.. when she. Told Spike “she’ll say it. One day she will.” My mind fast forwarded to the last ep when he sacrifices himself. The subtle foreshadowing thoo
I don't understand why he was initially meant to be disposed of, I mean, he killed 2 slayers in the past, how could they just get rid of him at the end of the same season he entered without buffy specifically and directly killing him?
Mindy Newell I’m sorry I don’t know what “TPTB” is short for but Joss said in an interview that Angel was Romeo but Spike was actual boyfriend material.
4:28 JESUS, the way he's looking at her, lolol! He looks like he's about to pounce on her. No wonder his real-life girlfriend freaked out over his off camera friendship with Juliet Landau, their chemistry is damn near explosive.
Spike is the favorite character for mamy people. It's because he's charming, cool, funny, lovely, sometimes creepy, dangerous and he's some kind of trustworthy. He was everything. For example in the scene where he comes to kill buffy and finds Willow instead and can't bite hee because of the chip. He gets angry, he is the villian, The bad boy but when Willow blames herself for Spike's failure and says that she is not good enough, he just comforts her which is lovely and funny.

Agreed. Drusilla is great and I wish she was in Buffy and Angel more.
"Drusilla was spike's first true love, first human love too" *Cecily has entered the chat*
Maybe James wasn't aware yet of his character's background at the time of the interview?
@@GosieKinno i think that William thought what he felt for cecily was true love, but then he met Drusilla and then he realized that, this is really true love, and it wasn’t one-sided.
Sid and Nancy ♥️♥️
One thing that I thought showed Spike was special was the very fact that Druscilla CHOSE him. Implying that she saw his potential.
-dude, it's not a Spike's show, it will never be a Spike's show
-HAHAHAHAHAHAH
there should be a spike show were he dose cases that angel cant be botherd with and it follows spike on his escapades.
@@torquetheprisoner that would be a good spin off
@@titekubo1997 it would be fun if angel left sticky notes around the office as well like dubble d's parents did aswell and spike gets frustrated cos he keep finding them in the straingest of places.
The way Spike looked after Dru was so cute! Loved them both. 🥰
I fell in love with him for that. And I wished Dru had gotten a redemption arc of her own, she deserved better!
Spike is EPIC. Period.
😍It's not only that He's stunning to look at, but the charisma that just oozes out of James is astounding, and the raw sensually He exudes is absolutely mesmerising! Such a profoundly delicious Man, utterly Heavenly! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
@Bullshit corner You don't say! 😂😂😂💖
That's one vampire I couldn't resist such attitude angel was soft buffy should have stayed with spike
Even now, after all these years.... "Spike" keeping a protective arm around "Drusila".
True. ❤️
I mean, it was filmed during the run of the show.
@@ejmcguinness6875 But they are vampires, could have been filmed yesterday
I just love spikes origin. There's so much emotional complexity. Especially when you find out his great love went on to become a revenge demon who punished bad parents. You just know she loved him too and her parents forced her to dump him.
There's a "noncanon" comic explaining the event from Halfrek's perspective. (It was part of the official comics though it wasn't written by Joss.)
Spoilers:
Halfrek was working as a vengeance demon under the guise of Cecily.
Omg ! I was soo confused by what you were saying until I looked back at that scene and realized Cecily is the same actress as Halfrek
Wow, i don't know about this. I wacht the show on a russian. Bucause when i was a teenage i speaking on my native language.
My dogs are named Spike and Dru!
Mindy W Whiteley mine are darla and spike 🤙
This is golden
My dogs named spike
Cool!
James Marsters is a Magnificent Beast!!!!!
“...It’s not the spike show, won’t become the spike show...” Come Buffy season 6-7 and Angel season 5....🙃🙄
dj love if it wasn’t Spike in season 5 of Angel, it would’ve been Cordelia
@@austinpearce5442 Not even close. Cordelia was overweight and nasty in season 5.
@@mariasmith2198 She was pregnant you ponce. 😡

Spike is the reason I love this show and why it's still in my heart after all these years. He is a star. ❤
Spike had some brilliant moments. In Tabula Rasa thinking Giles was his dad 😂 and in the series finale when Buffy told him she loved him but he acknowledged that she didn’t was 😢
i love tabula rasa that was funny asf. as for the finale, i saw someone say that maybe the reason spike said no you don’t was because he knew if he said it back to her in that moment, she would have stayed there and died with him. i’m not sure if that’s what the writers intended to do but i love it. atleast spike died a hero’s death, he redeemed himself and finally got those three words said back to him by buffy.
Rocked that style in my early 20s, great times. 10 years ago now.
@@willscorner8423 10 years ago I swear I didn't see anyone who rocked that style. At most someone might've had a long leather jacket. I was in my early 20's then as well.
Actually, Billy Idol stole the look from Spike.
@@joanna7350 you get it haha
@@polly-fe3pq lol Buffy said that to a bouncer or something in season 7.
Dru would still b 100x better than Harmony...lol
Spike is the best drama character I've ever seen, great job
I'm currently binging Buffy for the first time on my own this year, and I know for a fact I go through the episodes so quickly just so I can finally get to the episodes that have Spike in them. I'm in season 3 right now, so I can't wait until he starts showing up more often.
Out of all the shows and movies that I’ve ever watched I think that Spike was my absolute favourite character . There was just so much to his character and James portrayed him incredibly well. The roll would never be the same without him and the show wouldn’t be the same without him.
Sydney Yack I agree. I loves the character and James did a brilliant job playing him. He was my favourite throughout the show above Buffy and Angel.
He was so beautiful sexy and attractive.sincere, loyal, brave, funny, I will always love him
"Ow...Ow...Ow ow ow!" i remember that episode....it is years later and i STILL feel a little bad that i laughed at that part lol
I will always love Spike and Drucilla! Also love when they brought Spike to the show Angel because they were hilarious together.
His normal accent is so different. My sister loved him and 25 years later I’m loving him also. The cheek bones and the Jaw line my god are sexy
TOTALLY agree. Wish they'd brought Dru back for Season 5 of Angel! ❤
I love how Spike was a nerdy momma's boy and Drusilla turned him into a bad ass.
And Buffy turned him into a hero😌 or his love to Buffy to be exact😀
@@annmosh3290 even without a soul, he done good. he helped the scoobies and even helped raise dawn while buffy was dead. he went out and got his soul out of pure love for her.
@@joanna7350 yeah, I couldn’t get why everybody is always so harsh to him with soul or without but Angel is immediately forgiven once the soul is back.
And in many ways it did turn into the Spike Show, and by Whedon's hand no less, he made him the super-star by Season 5. Spike by the end of season 5 was his best version. No soul, yet deeply in Love with Buffy.
God, in that interview with Juliet, his smile is just GUH! Beautiful!
The way james was looking at juliet when she joined the interview… it’s so charged!! I feel something there
And at 6:45 his arm is holding hers!
♡♡♡
He was definitely an integral part of the cast.
This guy should’ve won an Emmy every year that show aired. The extras he brought to this character were not something that was able to be coached
I am )
@ I may be Love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it..
And Dru is mine,so piss Off
mark bradley she takes from both of her parents who were awesome actors.
She really helped him evolve into the vamp he is
Ofc
When everybody was crazy about Angel, Spike was my favourite ❤ Oh how I wish he could get his own show...
Spike was always a more interesting character. Way more interesting than Angel as a love interest in my opinion.
I also love that it turns out that we discover that Billy Idol actually copied Spike's "look" in the 80s...
To think he was supposed to be a one time character.
Spike will always be my fav
I wish that this video covered how the Buffy/Spike romance developed up to the very end. It's one of the best relationships ever seen on TV.
One of the most iconic tv characters of all time.
Spike's more like Billy Idol
Spike always claimed that it was actually the other way round, that it was HIM who created this look and Billy Idol copied it 😉
@@GosieKin Such a cute reference when that happened :)
I've always believed that is just what James thinks. Joss never confirmed anything.
Angel was her teenage first love. Spike is her adult true love.
Still pisses me off that TPTB refused it...even though it was so damn clear!!!!
agree!!! Spike is a true love
Agreed! Spike was her true love Angel was for Cordy.
Mindy Newell
Mindy Newell I’m sorry I don’t know what “TPTB” is short for but Joss said in an interview that Angel was Romeo but Spike was actual boyfriend material.
Cordelia was Angels adult love
4:28 JESUS, the way he's looking at her, lolol! He looks like he's about to pounce on her. No wonder his real-life girlfriend freaked out over his off camera friendship with Juliet Landau, their chemistry is damn near explosive.
Stagg Lee 😍😍😍
True! 😊
He is the most utterly beautiful man
When he does that thing with his jaw when he clenches *swwoooooon* omg he is unreal
5:16 One of the most iconic shots in the entire show.
I've met/talked to James a handful of times and he's a real nice guy. Poor guy is tired of all the vampire poses people want him to do 😂
He was so hot omg. The fact that he’s American blows my mind.
Spike was always my favorite. He is so powerful and its a turn on. I love his intensity and his vulnerability.
Spikes the true champion with a soul. He wanted it , and fought for it then got it. He’s awesome! Big bad.
First started watching buffy the vampire slayer when I was 8 I'm now 18 and I watch it every year and I never get bored of it honestly love it xx
Spike will be forever my favourite character of this show.
I loved Spike bc of his accent was so believable! James did a very good job for almost cussing. Love him! Also, he reminded me of Billy Idol 😍
still watching after 10 years. still best show. still my favorite character
Best character in the franchise
matthew mann
easily top 2, but I’d say Wesley was better and had a better character arc
My favourite is Angel, but Spike is cool 😎, too.
Spike was the best thing that ever happened to BTVS!!
20 yrs ago. Can't believe it! I wanna go back to those days!
Spike will always be my favorite vampy!!!
