Was a beautiful property. These people must be heart sick.
The dam was built in 1910. It was damaged by flooding and no longer generated power in 1965. In 1970 it was acquired by Blue Earth County and two years later it was proposed to either be rebuilt or torn down. In 2002 it was found that the buttresses needed extensive repairs. In 2019 the dam was damaged by flooding and stopped producing electricity. In 2021 an engineering study was done to study the repair or removal of the dam. 2022 the county sought feedback from the community to either repair or remove the dam and 18% approved removal while 69% approved repairing the dam. 2023 the "National Inventory of Dams" rated the dam in poor condition and it's hazard potential significant. The county should be held liable for the loss of the Hruska's home, business and land. Why isn't this information included in the news?
The damn is doing just fine. Surprisingly well considering what is happening around it. The water simply bypassed the damn when the level got too high.
If the County cashes out the homeowners they will by far be money ahead instead of repairing the dam! Seems like good fiscal policy to me

Debris was allowed to collect! Now the controversy whether to remove or repair the dam has been solved. 70% of those surveyed wanted the dam to remain.

She's using her best hyperbolic terror news voice, this anchor and script writer are awful. "We've got new drone footage showing the moment the house went under the river." Doesn't show drone footage of house falling into river. Accuracy and details matter when presenting news.
This is sad...hope they don't let anyone cross that bridge although it looks safe...because if the water erosion is that deep at the side of those building...I can just imagine that the abutments and piers are very unstable underneath that water...thoughts and prayers are with all who are affected.
I hope that family sues the hell out of the State of Minnesota 😡😡😡
