New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place!
Three things to note: Your starting wonder was stealth torpedos, meaning the enemy couldn't see your torpedos, which is why the AI ignored them. You need the warp nexus in both star systems to travel between them for free. The weapons actually have very different stats which does affect game play quite a lot (e.g. the cannons vastly outperform the lasers if you can get close up).
While I want more from this game, I certainly don't have time for more. So for me, at least in this present time in my life, this game is perfect. It's a short space 4X-ish game for a reasonable price. I suppose all I really want is a endless mode, I'd like to slowly burn away my opponents rather than auto win when I have a certain percentage of population (along with the other win conditions). Also I'd like the option to rename my ships.
When I actually have a time for a full on space game, I'll re-download Endless Space.
Well you can change the win condition, so if you set it to domination victory then the game ends only when there is only one player left

Unfortunately the game apparently sets that condition for the player and not for the AI. Hopefully that gets fixed anyway.

Torpedo's OP. Rush torpedo tech. Get the wonders that make your ships immune to torps (just so enemy can't get it), and the duel action wonder, hide at edge of the battlefield and spam torps towards the enemy ships.
I really hope Sid Meier isn't losing his edge. If they make another civilization game I hope they incorporate some of the concepts of Beyond Earth and Starships. You could start a game on prehistoric Earth and eventually become a space-faring civilization butting heads with human splinter groups or maybe even alien factions (though that might make it look too much like Galactic Civ). That would be epic. Even if you won the Earth stage with a domination victory you could still have seperatist factions in the Space stage since initially your military wouldn't be able to control the populations of other worlds (see The Moon is a Harsh Mistress) or you could have mutinies and hijackings of various numbers of colony ships from people who have their own idea of the direction humanity should take (like the factions of Alpha Centauri). That would certainly be a great way to evolve the series if they ever planned to make Civilization VI

They already could do that. Just making Beyond earth and starships DLC's. And make civ 5 on of the most succesful games ever. Sid meier was once a creative dev who had a heart for his fans. But today he and his team are lazy moneygrabfucks. It wont happen.
Edwark10 Spore was a great game but there were lots of parts that could have been developed further. Like each stage was giving us a taste of the real possibilities. Imagine if we had a 4X game with that kind of scope.
The wonder was the "Stealth Torpedoes". A warp gate can be built on any planet.
I was hoping for more of a Sid Meier's Pirates but in space esque game.
If you're looking for a game like Sid Meier's Starpirates, you should try out Starsector, which fits the bill perfectly. Mod support is very active as well and a great deal of mods have been released already. Although the game is officially not finished (it's created by a very small indie dev team), it does everything right. Other titles you might want to have a look at which are in the same pipeline (Rebel Galaxy and SPAZ 1 or 2)
Simple and fun and could be challenging when tying in all the features!

I saw the video where Sid Meier and another dude were showcasing some space combat. Someone suggested in the comments that they just slapped Meier's name on it. I have no opinion on it but was curious what people thought.
24:28 In this case your homeworld is providing you Stealth Torpedoes, so most likely, the AI was only charging right into them because it couldn't see them.

The A.I. Was ignoring your torpedoes because the wonder you had on your first world was stealth torpedoes.
quill18 your wonder that you started with was stealth torpedo, and to use a warp nexus, you have to have a warp nexus at both the start and ending point of the jump

I hope they plan to implement some kind of multiplayer mode. I could see this game being more fun multiplayer than single player, unlike Civ5 which is by far better single player.

MegaTyler93 It shows that the game has been built around a different school of thought than desktop games, and has been streamlining for a far less powerful platform. This reflects in the lack of depth in the gameplay, and the shocking lack of options. You play an ipad game for ten minuets while you are on the bus to work or on the toilet, not for hours sitting at your desk at home.

I've played this on the iPad and I've found the best way to win is have a free wonder also tech is not very good and in the beginning you need to rush to get planets

I really dislike Sid Meier's push in recent years to make such simple games. Throw us complexity! We can take it.
Reasons why this game sucks:
Setting victory conditions only affect you. Meaning if you want to win using a wonders or domination victory, then that's fine...but the enemy can win with whatever they feel like because your options don't affect them.
Options : Aside from Sound sliders and choosing between windowed/Borderless (notice you can't go fullscreen), that is all you get. No resolution, no vsync, no shadows, no level of detail, nothing.
GamePlay: It's exactly like a sid meiers game except for the fact you won't get that "one more turn" feeling. What does that mean? It mean's the game is fucking garbage as a 4x game. Get it for your ipad/tablet if it releases on that, otherwise avoid this plague. Sid Meier drop Firaxis asap, all they have done is created stripped down versions of civ 5 in space and this...abomination.

Let me get this clear, I love sci fi, I love alpha centauri. But Civ 5 had way more features than beyond earth, this game had a red flag in my head when I saw the $15 price point. From an indie game that means it might be a good game, from a well established company it means "We want money, here chew on this". Alpha Centauri was an amazing game, however as all artists know, you are only as good as your last product. The last 2 products by firaxis were a semi-fail (semi because the modding community is making beyond earth actually worth buying), and an outright insult (This game).

I like how people always gripe on how BE has got nothing in it compared to Civ5 and I just wonder did you not play Civ5 before all the expansions and mods and what not came out? It easily had less in it than BE at launch.

Yes I did play the original before the expansions, and I stand by my statement. By your argument, you're basically telling me that I should be expecting a half assed product just so I can wait for an expansion to get a complete game. Beyond Earth: They're all red, it takes a modder to put in this bare minimum xml color coding because Firaxite couldn't be bothered.
Oh but beyond earth has 3 spies, so clearly it has way more content...if YOU have ever played CIV5, you wouldn't type such a ridiculous comment.

Sid Meier is trying to make the most boring game of all times. He was already close to tgis achievement with Beyond Earth. He's now close to perfection with Starships. Congratulations !

So was Civ 5, you have the option to play it in tablet mode and it works on phones too, it's not like it's new for these guys to make these games work on touchscreens because any of the Civ games could very easily be converted to touchscreen games. It being like a touchscreen game doesn't take away from it in my opinion.

Márton Szabó the reason a lot of people don't game on PC is not because they don't understand it but because they can't afford it, I have a middle of the line laptop only a year old and it can't handle the majority of games even on low settings so my alternative to allow me to play games is my mobile until I can afford a better PC for games, and contrary to your post not every game on the play store is a money grab just like every game on steam isn't one, both platforms have well some well designed games and some simply to try and make a quick bit of cash
even if the name Sid Meier's was not in the title would probably get it Love Space Games But compared to Stellaris what a Gap! If MOD able then it'll be OK.

This game needs more development, and a update in regards, the graphics old late 80's early 90 's and the game play needs more development and too simple or not enough involvment. Should have taken longer to develop the game, you can tell it's been rushed and has not had enough on design and conseption. maybe I don't get it the simplicity of the game will probably carry it for some people how like simple games that you just play without much involvement.

Everyone's talking shit about this game yet this is what I expected Civilization Beyond Earth was supposed to be. It looks awesome and it's even cheaper than Civ Beyond Earth. Also after reading a lot of the negative reviews I can safely say that the 4X gaming community is quite possibly the worst, most pretentious gaming community ever. The only other gaming community that is worse are some Indie game communities.

Fuck man, this game is like a definition of "meh"... Not bad or awful just so fucking bland, uninspiring, simplistic, barebones and simply shallow it fucking hurts my soul.
It could have been fucking solid 9/10 material - imagine 3d real time tactical battles with 3d ships positioning, weapons arc of fire, dozens of ships on each side etc and on strategic map - deep politics system, industry, research, some systems being relatively isolated but full of precious resources, clusters, choke points, various travel times etc.
It would be fucking amazing but noooo, Sid had to make it as dumb as possible to port it to the IOS bullshit.

An overpriced piece of crap. I foolishly bought into the hype and purchased the game for iPad on launch, played it for a day or two, and haven't touched it since. Lots of free-to-play alternatives with way more content and updated content, stay away from this boring mess.

I think the worst thing is that this game doesn't have any multiplayer options, when it's so obviously a digital boardgame. Playing it is almost like trying to play Monopoly or Cluedo without any opposing players; what's the point?
This is kind of what I wanted Beyond Earth to be. Not this simple but the idea of galactic control rather than Civ 5 but with an Alien and Future theme.

Beware lots of problems, crashes not starting, hundreds of people cannot even play this game, got mine from Steam does not work yet and I have good windows 7 pc, BE AWARE!!
