I grew up in the early 2000s, but my mom had a bunch of games for the SNES, including this one. I was never able to be it as a kid, and have been meaning to dig it out and try and beat it, but mostly, I'm glad it seems to be getting more recognition after being released in the virtual console for the Switch.
I've always loved this game but the constant need to access a menu to switch forms or projectiles definitely does detract from the overall game. How Capcom didn't think to map this to buttons like in the Mega Man X series is beyond me.
Demon's Crest was such an underappreciated gem, yeah, it had some flaws, and the music was pretty mid, but the graphics, concept, and atmosphere fucking sold it
@SayItIsntJoe yeah definitely, I remember getting the good ending for the first time. There was a similar feeling I had when I first discovered the inverted castle in castlevania symphony of the night I really felt like I accomplished something, and then playing it through to the end was super satisfying

We know it as FF3 but in reality it's actually FF6 cuz of Licensing of Square Enix of Japan wouldn't allow it under it's actual name FF6 so Square Enix of USA gave it the title FF3 Duh!
Interesting trivia about this game being bought and sold back en masse by extremists! Great episode! It’s a little cryptic moving forward in this game, especially 100%ing it, but nowhere near as scuzzy or as nasty an experience as Sega’s equivalent: Chakan, which we covered on our channel. We can say that both games feature awesome main characters!
Your chakan video made me want to skip the game tbh lol. Demons crest is definitely fun in it's own right, if anything I just wish they provided a little more guidance on what to be doing - which I guess both games had in common. I still recommend a play!

I had never heard about that "negative sales"-boycott before, but it both sounds like a lie made to create PR AND something the religious could have done at that time. As for the game, I'm very fond of it from my playthroughs back in the day of emulation, but looking back I do admit the game is very obtuse. A real looker, and it was almost a little like a more exploratory and slower Mega Man X... but I wonder if I'd be as fond of it now as I was back then, when I fell hook line and sinker for its aesthetics way before I ever even played it.
Yeah I mean the only real mention of the religious part of the negative sales comes from Nintendo power and rumors combined.. hard to know for sure but it wouldn't surprise me either way

I don’t agree about the music.
In a time when videogame soundtracks were all heroic and upbeat, demons crest dared to sound melancholic.
It was certainly an interesting choice. Not my favorite, but I can see the merit in taking a chance.

I agree, the menu was a constant distraction for me, too
I love Demons Crest. It made me want to headbutt my problems like Firebrand does. Also I love the crests changing Firebrand into different versions.
