    That model is HUGE! I bet if you reach out to Andy's Hobby Headquarters, Andy would love to hear your comments on the color call out and the instruction errors.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It sure is! I don't want to sound overly critical about the instructions (although there's at least one more error I've spotted since this video), as they were relatively easy to notice. But colour call-outs would be helpful.

    Great video, look forward to the following chapters. I got this kit excitedly when it was released but after looking through it and discovering some of the problems you've called out it went into the stash and hasn't moved. Now after seeing you starting it I may move mine up the list with your skills and knowledge to guide me.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. Yes, they're not huge problems (and they don't detract from the quality of the actual kit) but they are a bit annoying because you have to second guess yourself a few times.

    Great video mate, excited to see how it turns out. Been following you for a while since your troop carrier video and your work is outstanding. Definitely should go for the interior on this one though as due to the scale that’s a lot of empty space, you’ll always think what if? If you don’t.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you. That's a good point - once the upper hull goes into place I can't change my mind. And it will bug me looking into the empty space, that's for sure.

    Personally, I'd splash out and buy the resin extras. For a model of that size and price, I'd want it as great as possible, inside and out. 😊❤😊

      I'm inclined to agree. But looking at my 1/35 Achilles, you can't really see anything at all. Although that does have more crew figures blocking the view.

    Achilles/Achilleus - from the ancient Greek - 'Aχος/Achos' meaning, pain, distress, and 'λαός/Laos' meaning a host, band of soldiers. Laos later became a word for 'people, nation.' As Achilles was said to fight in bronze armour that covered his entire body, other than the back of the lower legs, he was the tank of the Trojan War. (For example see The Dendra panoply/armour).

    Excellent first installment, strange you mentioned about the instructions? I have recently completed the Das Werk VOMAG 8.8cm although it is produced by Das Werk it was designed by TAKOM and the instructions are a bit hit and miss to say the least. However, we end up with lovely kits that just need a bit of thinking about. Looking forward to your next installment BTW will you be at the Stoke on Trent Show in September?

    Hi everyone
    I mentioned this before when the 1/16 Sherman was released,I think for the money we have to pay for these kits you thought Andy would have asked for the interior as well ,I have two trumpeter kits in 1/16 scale and although I payed about £50 more each for them they all had interior’s,why would anyone what a large kit with no interior included??? I’m not having a go at any one it’s just seems pointless to me I mean it makes sense doesn’t it ,I don’t know anyway good luck with the build 👍🏼

    Hi. That looks like a very nice kit. I would like to build it but I wouldn,t like to pay for it. As for the interior well I know that it is expensive but with a model of this size it needs to have the drivers compartment and the radio set. Next of course is the engine. Is there one available ? And if so do you buy it ? The answer I,m afraid is yes. You have to bite the bullet on this kit. Spend what you can afford. Good video and a good build,so far. Good luck.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, Brian. I am leaning towards some form of driver's compartment for sure. As for the engine, I'm less worried about that because it is completely hidden (I don't think the engine access maps can be posed open).

    Hi . I've always thought 1/16 is just to big . Really, only Americans have house's big enough to have a collection. I think 1/24 would be better (75MM figures) if you want bigger . Having said that , i want the ahh m113a1 acav in 1/16 . But that would be it . I will follow the build . Enjoy . M

    I would love to have a go at building this kit and to expand the project by scratch building an interior. I don't think you have to be 100% accurate for the interior, just a good representation. I have built the 1/16 Andy's Hobbies Willys Jeep and (having helped a friend restore and actual wartime Jeep) was a little disappointed at the detail of the chassis and spring hangers, so i would be interested to know about the accuracy and detail level of this kit. With the Jeep I felt the priority was for a quick and easy build up which sacrificed some detail and accuracy.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get the same feeling - that maybe a little detail has been sacrificed as you mention. I am tempted to add an interior, for sure...I'm just not sure on which solution to go for yet (scratch / 3D design one / buy the 3D printed one available online).

    • @allanrichards3752
      @allanrichards3752 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ModelNerd I have noticed on You Tube that a lot of people will buy a kit and just about every upgrade package they can get hold of. The only trouble with this is the cost. You can easily exceed the kit cost with the extras. For a £100 kit I would be looking for a project of about 2-3 months duration and building stuff like interiors can easily stack up the build time and hence value and enjoyment from the kit.

      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be fair, most Achilles kits in other scales include (and exclude) the same areas. Yes, I was surprised by the mistake, which why I'm calling it an apparent mistake at the moment - still more likely that I'm wrong than they are, though I can't see how at the moment.

    @MikeUSA67 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    First of all, my condolences, Stu - 30 min ago you people got your ass handed to you by the Spanish 😞Secondly, either that kit is ginormous, or you've got awfully small hands (if the latter, again... condolences, mate) 🙂That being said, so far the kit looks quite good, and it seems to be fun building it. Will be following closely!!!

    Hmm, I'm a bit unsure about TH-camrs attaching their name/ sponsoring small companies, it just seems a bit unseemly as it were. Having said that, it seems like a solid build so far, hopefully nothing beyond the ammo rack needs work done to it. Hoping for the best.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In this case I think Andy has been running a model shop (now two shops) for much longer than he had his TH-cam channel, and his line are specifically 1/16 kits, a scale I don't believe Takom made previously.

    • @markfergerson2145
      @markfergerson2145 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ModelNerdYes, that is the case.
      On his channel he explained that he has for years been hearing from more advanced modelers that they are dissatisfied with the general level of detail on armor models, and that photoetch which has been the industry fix for a long time is very frustrating. So he did some polls and decided to partner with Tacom in marketing one 1/16 scale kit which sold out very quickly. After more feedback he and the manufacturer were sufficiently emboldened to expand the line, and aftermarket resin manufacturers have been pumping out crew, accessory and interior kits in the scale. It seems to be overall a good business decision.
      The interior kit you mentioned was news to me. Last I saw on his channel he was hoping that a resin maker would market engine and interior kits. I don’t think an engine bay kit is far behind.
      As someone else said Andy will be delighted to hear about errors and omissions in the instructions. He is very (deservedly imho) proud of these kits but is also very critical of his work and wants them to be as near perfect as is humanly possible.
      There are online references to explain the different types of shells and how they should be painted. That omission is especially puzzling to me.
      I’m very happy to see your build series on this kit. I know that you won’t hold back on your critiques and are going to produce a beautiful finished model regardless of difficulties.
      One negative to building in this scale is the amount of shelf space a model will take up. Another is trying to use them in dioramas that you don’t need a forklift to move around. I suspect that sales will peak at some point making these kits something of a niche product but there appears to be room in the market to keep it going. We shall see, I suppose.
