    If you’re worried about their new album “Hushed and Grim” being bad, you will be pleasantly surprised, then feel a gut punch, then cry, then get hit in the gut again. It’s genuinely that powerful, and I highly recommend it to any fans new or old!

    This video is like Leviathan, perfect. After Pushing the Tides I got hyped, if they are really going for Fallen Torches style the new album will be amazing.
    ~ I don't really like the "popy" Mastodon too but they know how to make pop metal. And there's still great songs like The Ruiner, Diamond in the Witch House and Roots Remain that are super underrated.

    Idk I guess everyone has their own opinions. The Hunter is one of my favorite albums and is my personal favorite from the band. Like Blood Mountain and Leviathan, the songwriting and lyrics weren’t overworked or over thought. They were fun and felt like the band had a really good playing and recording them. But we can both agree that Emperor of Sand was their worst.

  • @KrashmanVonStinkputn
    @KrashmanVonStinkputn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video.
    I would have suggested Blood Mountain as the intro to newbies precisely because of all the reasons you gave........it literally has music that encapsulates every genre they have played.
    Agree that it's hard to pick Leviathon or CTS as their best.

    Big Question, which category does the new album fit in?

    • @AudibleFist
      @AudibleFist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All parts blended quite well but not too evenly, the band stated they don’t want to move backwards, its mostly Prog with elements of Hook and Heavy. Pretty much all fans from the different groups are claiming it, so you know it’s really good.

    Remission is so underrated

  • @mrterkyman
    @mrterkyman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My 3 categories are: Sludgey & Wild, remission and call. The freeform years: hunter and omrts. Then the proggy concept albums - leviathan, blood, cts, EoS, and Hushed. I feel like pairing EoS with Hunter and OMRTS feels off to me. Show Yourself is the only really weird song in comparison to their normal sound. But, its all subjective. Mastodon don't have a bad record!

    Blood Mountain is not even close to one of their worst albums are you smoking crack?! I mean its the album that pretty much the album where they decided that they were going to break it wide open and put any and everything they wanted into their songs. It's nt a mess its just an album with a shitload of different flavors on it that take a lot of listening to digest.

    I’m going to have to disagree about the mix/production on Emperor of Sand. I thought getting Brendan O’Brien to come back as producer made it their best sounding album since Crack The Skye. Especially now after hearing Hushed and Grim. I think the production is a huge step down from Emperor of Sand. Especially the heavier songs like Pushing The Tides and Savage Land. Just something there that isn’t sounding right.
    Also Emperor Of Sand had all 3 of them singing consistently which was amazing. Hushed and Grim has almost no vocals from Brent (because he’s working on a new band with Matt Pike) and with an 86 minute run time, it’s really noticeable how much Troy and Brann are singing.

    One thing worth pointing out - mastodon isn't a very consistent live act. Their live mix ranges from amazing to unlistenable and their vocal performances are never on par with what you'll hear on the album. I consider myself a mastodon fan, but to me they're a studio band first and foremost

  • @xkmmx2132

    When you said that A7X and Trivium were whiny, I was like “Hold up!” for a moment. In my opinion, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium aren’t whiny in the lyrics (sometimes the vocals are nasally on some of A7X’s albums, but I’m sure that’s done on purpose. It’s not Simple Plan levels of whining by any means). But opinions are opinions.
