- Restoration of a very old board game from France “Billiard Nicolas”. This antique board game is from the 1925s.
Game instructions:
In this large traditional wooden game, you can play with 2, 3, or 4 players. Your objective is to score goals without conceding any. You propel the ball using your bulb (press on it to expel air). Each time you concede a goal, you gain a point. If you reach 3 or 5 points, you're considered eliminated. The game continues, and you remain in the game but become neutral. As soon as 3 players have conceded 3 goals, the 4th player wins. This huge ancient game is very friendly. We have a lot of fun.
Inventor:
Billard Nicolas is a board game of skill in the billards family, invented by Nicolas Redler in France in 1894.
What have I done:
I bought this old board game on eBay for 200 €. The board game was very worn out. It had been lying in a garage for a long time, where there was a lot of moisture. As a result, the wood was severely damaged. First, I removed the upper black ring from the base plate. Since the veneer on the base plate was chipped, I had to tear off the entire veneer. Underneath the veneer was a 3 mm thick wooden board. I also tore this off. Then I bought a new veneer on eBay. This was an oak veneer. I glued this veneer onto the base plate and put it into a vacuum bag. This allowed me to achieve the same pressure everywhere on the base plate. On the back of the base plate, the original veneer was still present. It was a bit old, but I didn't want to remove it so that you could still see a little charm from the antique board game, showing its age. I just lightly sanded and cleaned this veneer. The legs of the base plate were also completely damaged. I had to replace them with new ones. For this, I took a piece of wood and cut out circles. I sanded these at a 45° angle and glued them onto the plate. When the base plate was finished, I moved on to the black ring. The black ring had the score counters and the holders for the air pump. I had to disassemble all of these first. Then I lightly sanded the black ring, primed it with gray paint, and then painted it black. When the ring was dry, I put it on the base plate and fastened it with six screws. Of course, I used original screws. I cleaned the screws slightly with a steel brush and then polished them. The score counters were very worn out. So I cleaned all the white and red balls from dirt, lightly sanded them, and painted them. I blasted the metal brackets of the score counters with a sandblaster, sanded them afterward, and then nickel-plated them. Then the score counters were mounted back onto the black ring. I also sandblasted the holders for the air pump, connected them afterward, and then nickel-plated them. Finally, all I had to do was pump the air, clean it a little, and lightly sand the metal tips. Then the air pumps were mounted onto the game's holders. The result looks great. You can play the game properly again. When you turn the game around, you can see the old charm of the game. After all, the game is from 1925. How do you like the restoration of the game?
When I was little, I think ten or eleven years old, my uncle made one of these games and gave it to me and my brothers for Christmas. It's still at my parent's house. My niece and nephews have played with it.
Aww, that's so wonderful! 😊
👍🏻👍🏻✨✨🔵🔵⚪⚪🔴🔴
Not only a great restoration, such a great little old game to see, that I had never seen before. Well done ❤️
Thanks 😊
Excellent! Interesting how they amused themselves back then.
That sentence sounds like from back then 😉
How is it any different then today? We have air hockey, foosball, billiards. All are pretty much the same game.
This looks like a really fun game!
Amazing Restoration 👍🏻👍🏽👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
It's so classy I love it. It reminds me of Crash Bash's ball stages.
wonderful device and wonderful restoration - this film made me happy on a Sunday afternoon! Best wishes from Manchester, UK.
I'm very pleased that you liked the video. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Respect for using that awful wood veneer for an authentic restoration
What a cool piece, great work 👊
Thanks my TH-cam colleague 😁
The close-up scenes of the screws and small parts were the best🙂 🎉👏👏👏
What an easy scene to watch!
Looks like a parts photographer😳
wonderful ✨
Yes you are right. The shots were very beautiful. But it took me a lot of time to record it. Thanks for the comment
Magnifico !
Sia il gioco sia il restauro !!!
Grazie.
this a very nice restoration your did it looks so cool we see them
at a flea market before is so cool and nice we got a lot of board games for 20 years now and it was fun.
Nice work! Looks like the original Air Hockey game LOL.
Excellent job 👍👍👍
Thanks 😊
Cool game and a magnificent restoration. That certainly was a lot of work. Well done.
Beautiful restoration 😊
Thanks 😊
I'm astounded the rubber bulbs still work. You might be able to find a pourable latex that you can coat the inside of the bulb with.
I'm From Iraq and I love Witch your videos ❤

Was für eine wundervolle Arbeit 😮😊
I would have gone about this another way. I would have started then go side tracked and misplaced half of it. Your way is good too.

Awesome work and so satisfying result 👍🏻
It's amazing the simple things that could keep people's mind entertained for hours.. today everybody's stuck in their phones like zombies
cell phones are a great way to politely ignore friendly woke people who want to work you for a handout.
Super gra ! - pięknie odnowiona brawo ❤
Dziękuję za Twój komentarz. Miłego tygodnia 😊
Wow! Neat! Great job! 😊
I could totally see Hasbro remaking this game. And I would definitely buy it.
Very very good job.
Ottimo restauro, complimenti 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
MANUFIQUE!!! 🇫🇷🧑🏼🎨
It’s like Hungry, Hungry Hippos but in reverse! 😊

Exelente reciclado de enemas...
Awesome.
It is surprising that the puffer bulbs have not gone rock hard and useless from age.
Never seen such a game lol

Odd little game, but a great restoration!
How are those rubber bulbs still intact?
Nicely done but paying 200€ for something that was destroyed 😮
Yes, you're right, it's a lot of money, but people always want to have so much money for broken objects. Since there aren't that many of these things on the internet, I have to buy them 😅
But it’s worth it!
Restaurado jogo de tabuleiro 🕹😉
I’m honestly surprised those basters weren’t completely cracked. Anything once mailable and over 100 years old usually loses flexibility
Oh yeah game on.
Good❤
200€ for a broken game?! That’s a lot of money for something in need of repairs! Still turned out nice, though!
Hey MW, I tried to reach out to you via instagram, maybe you find the time to check the message. I need some info on your powdercoating oven. I only find it as a gasgrill. Did you modify it yourself or is there a commercial electric version. Would be great to get your input mate. Best, Dr Beer
Can you please explain why the double veneer? What's the advantage of having two layers like that?
In the original condition, double veneers were also glued. Why do you do that? Here is the explanation. The entire wooden panel consists of 2 veneers at the bottom, then comes the thick wooden panel and two more veneers are glued to the wooden panel. When you glue a piece of wood with veneer, you actually always have to glue the veneer on both sides. If you don't do this, the wooden board may bend.

Very nice restoration and a lot of work. Where do you find all this great items to restore ?
Greetings !
That's the first time I see such a game. Is there any modern version of it?
This game is now also sold as a modern game. It's perfect for kids or game nights. Just take a look on the internet.
You'll get caught in the Crossfire, You'll get caught in the you'll get caught in the Crossfire CrooossssFIRE! Four person Crossfire LOL. Cheap board game for kids. But jokes aside, nice end result.
Coole Restaurierung 😎👍. Wie heißt dieses Spiel?
👌
I guess with rubber you can't really fix it, just replace it when damage is bad enough?
Hola buenas me gustan tus restauraciónes dónde podría conseguir la masilla akemi
wow
Was that the most glue you ever used on a project lol.
Are you Rescue&Restore too?
Why the metal cups?
Inverse Hungry Hungry Hippos
Im be worried why center hole be made, during this video.
I thought it may be any trap work of game.

That game blows.
This is 100 age
"ANTIQUE FRENCH..."? LOL!!!
I think you spring way to fast between the scenes. Can you please make the scenes a bit longer because its quite annoying when there are like 4 cuts in a second
Being such a wreck there was no other way to do it. But this is not a restoration.
Of course it’s a restoration. It just doesn’t fit your idea of a restoration
@@shedmanx3640 Years as a museum restorer. You have not the slightest idea of restoration.
You have done a RECREATION. The value of this object as an antique is ZERO.
Ship of Theseus.

Your honor, cry about it
don't you just love removing old veneer
👍👍
