- In this video I am rolling with Frank. He is a seasoned black belt at the academy and all around swell fella. ;). This is our first roll on the channel. More to come!

Once I saw you posted that you rolled with Frank I said ‘oh this is a tough round’.
Frank is the definition of controlled aggression. And picks his spots ridiculously well, as far as when to attack. It’s very rare to see him in a defensive position.
I liked your comment when you said it ‘doesn’t look like you’re doing much’. But when you’re rolling with him you have to understand everything he is doing is setting something else up, sometimes 2 to 3 moves ahead of what you’re thinking cause he knows the counters to your counters. So sometimes when you get in a spot when you’re not being submitted you stay there even though you know he’s waiting for you to make your move. Visually not the most fun to watch, but sometimes it just feels like your only option to not get caught in whatever.
Yes Dan! Great analysis and understanding sir!
Strength? Check. Skill? Check. Age? Check. But hey, at least you have heart! We all keep learning because of it. Thanks!
Yes! Thank you!
Hey JO5 47 White belte who just strarted Sept 11th amd loving your smiling at purp in the roll. If I can keep the smile I enjoy now, mission accomplished.
Yes plus plenty of smiling afterwards!
Damn that’s a big deadly black belt. You did well against him!
Ha. Thanks! I should have put some soap on my back he could have washed the mats with me. Thanks for watching and commenting. Respect
Frank the tank brings it every time 🤙🏻
I have another round coming. Lol. He looked and felt like a werewolf. Lol
Great roll, very educational. Please bring Frank back. Thank you for your videos.
At 1:00 , the double pant leg grip is almost a guaranteed guard pass. That is the moment to fight and break the grip so you can establish a better guard. You have to break at least one grip on your legs to neutralize the advantage.
I like to use a two on one sleeve grip, pull with your arms and kick with your leg simultaneously, then use that free leg to put your foot on his hip.
Agreed. I just feel like he is so quick and anticipates my moves so well. Thanks for commenting and great learning from you today. Btw I watched one of your math videos and my brain overheated. Haha. You make it sound so easy
@@Jitsover50 I'm happy to pass on anything I can. I really like the format and content in your videos. I look forward to the next one!
Thank you it is debuting right now!@@vinteachesmath
My professor always quotes master Relson Gracie to us “ you can have one, but not two” so true that it’s almost a guaranteed pass
great video as always, can very much relate to smiling from a sense of helplessness and not having a choice but to let go of control
Thank you brother
Love it. No ego.
Frank is a beast!! Definitely lots learning during those rolls.
Yes I have watched it 100 times already. Invaluable.
Once he flared the elbow on the paper cutter, there wasn't toughing it out 😂. Black belts always tickle my Blu belt brain with technique 😁🤔
Word. lol
Congrats on the brown belt!
Frank is one of my favorite people to train and roll with
I learn something new every single time. Such a gentleman and superb teacher. Great roll guys!
Agreed. Also he is so soft spoken! Thank you Mike!
Excellent video!!!
Thank you as always!
Great roll. This video helps everyone know the confusion, helplessness, hopelessness, and strategy needed to roll with an more skilled practitioner. Love the videos.
Thank you! Yes like a baby being cradled. Haha.
Great roll, I’m a small guy and blue belt. This looked grueling 😅, love your videos. Very educational.
Thank you Jose! I really appreciate the kind words
Love these vids keep em coming ❤
Thank you. I have a takedown video coming out tomorrow
@@Jitsover50 brilliant
I've shared your videos with my students as I feel the rolls with commentary are essential to gaining more understanding, I use a constraints led approach and one of my fighters just subbed a black belt from Iceland and the second round.
@@S18MMA this is so great to hear. I’m honored! Thank
I just watched some of your videos. A true MMA gym. Respect
@@Jitsover50 thanks man appreciate that.
“I think he may be a werewolf.” Hehehe, I know exactly what you mean. Good roll!
haha. I was going to make the title "rolling with a werewolf".
This is why we have weight divisions. He literally falls on you with his entire body weight a couple times. That had to suck. Lol.
lolol right. It wasn't as much fun as I thought. plus age and skill divisions. Seriously though I like rolling with Frank. I look forward to learning all I can from him
Who changes clothes in the middle of the mat while people are rolling?
He had on athletic shorts. I just didn't want to take a chance. lol.
You guys do 4 min rounds? 😮
It depends. Not always.
TBH I would avoid sparring with anyone who rolls like that.
Like what? Better than you? That's exactly why you SHOULD roll with people like that. Or you'll always get smashed.
Your opening statement is a whine.. Stopit. Just roll. I'm 58 and I'm sick of people using age as a crutch.
I'm not using it as a crutch. just trying to show our perspective. :).
I'm sick of people pretending age doesn't matter
Go roll with him… you’ll wish you were 20 years younger just to be able to keep up.
Nope. I’ll wish that were better at my technique and I’d wish that I were taking better care of my health. @@Danjr704
People die from age lol of course it matters
