Like buying a monstera deliciosa cutting online for $75 then seeing 3 16inch pots full of them at Lowes for $35? Like that kinda thing? One highly underrated plant I think of is the begonia maculata.

I am also curious about what the survival rate on imported plants are? I know it depends on species and time of year but it sounds like its not uncommon to have the majority of plants in a shipment die or require significant rehab.

Your honesty about imperfect plants is sooooooooo welcoming!!! So valuable because to me-the strive to perfection (in any way, shape, or form) is extremely exhausting. Emotionally exhausting!
Nature is perfectly IMPERFECT! And that’s the beauty of it all.

Yup, I’m willing to drop a nice chunk of change on some plants, but when you’re over $400 (usd) for a cutting, I’m out. I’d love to have a strawberry shake or caramel marble, but they’re worth about $100-$150 to me when I’m seeing one leaf caramel marble cuttings go for $2,500. Not a chance.

I know, sometimes you can't take care of them as good as you like or just don't have the best conditions (I grow in front of a North window), and it's nice to hear that everyone else has plants with a few faults too.

I espcially appreciate your talking about how people often want only "perfect plants"; I have been suckered into this, BUT now I accept the plant as it is...as you said "things happen". I give my babies the best care I know and some are excellent;some are not. Your honest is great!!!
Bug man wife here. We have customers call all the time "I have these little flies" His answer "do you have plants" ?? She says "Well yes I do" His answer "you have fungus gnats, I'll spray them the next time I'm there" I myself brought home some spider mites from a new "plant shop" that was 3 hours away from me.😳😳😳 (mini polys) I had the "ole man" spray them twice and then dust them. The best treatment was me putting them outside so the natural predators could eat them. I dont know much about bug bombs. The name of them scare me. Thanks for a great video !!! ☘🌿☘

I'm new to your channel and I am so happy I found you! I really appreciate your philosophy/view on "perfect plants". There is no such thing unless your home is a literal greenhouse... and who has that! I do what I can with humidifiers and supplemental light, I love my plants even if they get brown tips or are sad because it is winter! They are still beautiful!

No one's going to read this probably but something I've never hear mentioned is that Indonesia was in a recession before covid, and in a deeper one now like everyone else. All these plant shops employ a lot of people and are helping a lot of families and communities to keep food on the table.

Winter means 😬😬😬😬 freak out. Bring all my Hoyas inside(which they hate) and all my Begonias. Anything under 40 degrees is a nitemare. I do love sitting and talking to them and trimming the dead leaves. Telling them I love you and please survive

I feel you on the plants going bad thing. I've been at home for some months bc of corona and the company where I work shutting down. In the beginning it was fun to take care of my plants, but after a while I was feeling more down and I left my plants alone, just being there. On top of the feeling down, my ferret went to the emergency room of the vet a couple of days ago and waterday got skipped. Sometimes it's just... not plant time I guess?

can you do a video with your grow light set up please? Regarding humidity your are right, I had the same issue- bacteria and very heavy air regardless of aair circulation. Personally I like 65 to 70% humidity max just so it is not too uncomfortable for me and good enough for plants.

Awww girl, love you. Love the part about plants not having to be perfect all the time. I just got a really bad shipping and all the plants took a beating. But I still love them. I know I can nurse them back to their glory. :) We're not perfect every day. Your eye makeup in this vid, however. That's far above perfect! :D Love ya!

The shops in Indonesia are selling a LOT more locally, the plant boom caught on there late August this year. The awareness and newfound appreciation/national pride for beautiful local (and rare) plants has never been like this before and if you were minutes away from a nursery you’d probably go straight there too, amiriiiiiight😛

i have no pests except fungus gnats, i always thought i had spider mites because my plants often had spider webs on them, but i saw no mites. Today i found a little spider family living on the underside of my monstera, 2 little spiders and 1 large one. I freaked out but I think theyre ok, I saw tons of fungus gnats in their webs so they must enjoy it. Considering moving them into a terrarium with the plant so they dont spread onto my other plants
I'd love to see you do a series on hydroculture, with a focus on nutrient mixing, pH levels and why they are important, and nutrient deficiencies and what they look like. More knowledge is what I'd love the most.

The heaushkeliana var. I have noticed is getting really popular and widespread. Their price is going to drop, it grows super quick, and I got mine for $20 in Canada when online prices were around $150 for this plant. Be patient if you want it, it's circulating fast.
I would love a video on the ins and outs of alocasia. I have one and she is trying. It Made me get a humidifier, moisture meter, and a Digital Temperature Humidity Meter For the house and I am sure I am not done getting stuff for her to make her happy.
I have never had spider mites *knocks on wood* but I have heard countless times that insecticides don't work on them, because they're mites and you need a special miteicide or something. I was genuinely just hope living in a super humid climate will keep me safe, but ughhh winter is wrecking that for me.

Did you know that using neem too much, like weekly- can actually put a film of oil over the plant and hurt them over time and being unable to photosynthesis? Wasn’t sure if you knew!

I’m so curious as to how plant prices will change after quarantine. Like a doubt that say, a hastatum will ever go back to $23, but I can’t imagine the prices to keep going up forever. The bubble’s gotta burst at some point, but I can’t even fathom what it’ll be like.
