    Venus Theory built a homebrew version of one of these, and he pulled a lot of dark ambient horror out of his. Fun to hear the very different sounds you make with a box full of contact mics. Love the multiband chain you're playing with.

    Get a 20 pack of piezos for like $15 and strap em to everything. Or get a little wooden box and mount all kinds of stuff to it: Springs, coins, screws, hinges, buttons, switches, keyboard keys etc.

    Recently departed Bay Area artist and musician Tom Nunn taught workshops about how to build what he called a “Skatchbox” using a small priority mail USPS box (they’re free until you mail them) objects from around your home and work, paper, markers and glue. Tape a piezo mic to one and you’ve got a little DIY resonance box that sounds like your life!

    Hi Jeremy - this video both inspired me to subscribe and buy my very own Soundbox. So thanks for that.
    It arrived the other day and since you were asking in this video for similar things, the Gechologic Loopsynth is BOTH an amazing similar thing AND that also pairs beautifully with the Microphonic Soundbox. The Loopsynth has a bunch of different channels of crazy reverbs, weird ambient soundscapes, emulations of MI Clouds, and other fun stuff - and most of this stuff has some type of resonance function.
    More important for this reason, it comes with little microphones and can be played by striking and little finger theremin moves on it's light sensors. It also has a line in. So you can see where I'm going with this. The MSB sound is coming in through the line and through the microphones where its meeting up with these crazy effects that can be further augmented by striking the box of the Loopsynth, which means if I just put the Loopsynth on top of the soundbox and play both while dragging the bottom of the Loopsynth along the sandpaper of the MSB. Oh or you can also play other acoustic instruments that the Loopsynth picks up. Or just burp into both!

    I made something similar using a simple piezo microphone and a wooden box, springs, a clockwork spring, hand turned music box and a jar lid- though I will probably add another piezo microphone. Effects definately make it come alive- great for atmospheric sounds- you'll have heard something similar in horror/psychological drama films!

    @nickygrillet786 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That sounds so good 💚 I’ve been wanting to make a diy version of this myself, with built in delays and stuff but it’s still just in my head..
    If you wanna check it out there’s a video of Trent Reznor working on the gone girl ost using such a device to make the beats, the luminist garden?
    And I join my voice to people mentioning einsturzende neubauten, they use a load of stolen and repurposed construction site machines to make weird noises, pressured air into pvc tubes, bows on drilling machines and stuff, and the music is great ❤️ They are a joy to see live!
    Have a wonderful day!

    Ooh, I've seen Mark Farrelly play homemade ones... very cool to have a version people can just buy, with a little bit of everything in a fairly small space. Some of Farrelly's are way bigger, with much larger springs, which of course tend to have more resonance on the low end. But the larger a box like this is, obviously the more unwieldy it is.
    I really like the tuning marks on those tines here, makes it nice to get western-tuning sounds if you want. You chose some great effects chains here too.

  • @dreamstaticsounds
    @dreamstaticsounds 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I think a contact mic on either of those, treated similarly, would produce results at least as interesting as your soundbox there.
