  • In today's video I am back at Morrisons Cafe. I really enjoyed the Ultimate Breakfast here, but really didn't enjoy their Sunday Roast Beef.
    How will their Ultimate Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas fare? They call it Ultimate, but will it live up to the name?

    I am getting the idea you really do like vinegar. I personally do not use vinegar on chips, I just like a huge heap of salt. The food was not bad at all for the price. Personally I never oven cook chips, even when the chips are specifically for the oven; they just never come out even, either some are overcooked and some are undercooked with no uniformity of colour or texture. I either use an air fryer or a good old fashioned deep fat fryer.
    The peas looked like they could hang wallpaper over in Greeno Towers; I mean they were far too thick and stodgy, so you were right to add the vinegar; personally, I also like to add a teaspoon of mint sauce too.
    And finally, yes, I think the fish was just cheap pollock but for that price, I am not surprised or concerned.

    • @GreenoEats
      @GreenoEats  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The peas were thick enough to be used as an adhesive for sonar resistant tiles on a submarine, let alone hanging wallpaper ha ha! Little bit of mint in peas does bring them to life, all kinds of peas.
      As you rightly state, I am a BIG fan of vinegar on chips, got to be bog standard malt vinegar, nothing fancy.

    The cup of tea looks nice and dark. I like strong tea. The fish and chips look good on the plate. Mushy peas do look light but I prefer them like that without the colouring. Definitely peas need vinegar. The fish looks really good. I would say that is better than the M and S one I had last week as the Morrisons fish seems to have moisture to it and the M and S one whilst being a proper fish and not fish mush is just a bit dry. Overall I am impressed. Once went to Asda for breakfast with my sister and brother in law. We ordered the full English and a cup of tea. The tea arrived and we waited and we waited even though there was hardly anyone else in the café. Eventually a young girl came and said sorry but we have no bacon and eggs left. So my brother in law said well go and get some off the shelves. She said we aren't allowed to!!! We were offered some dry sausages!!! We walked out after paying for the tea. I think they could have let us have that for free. Chicken curry made from scratch yesterday for me tonight. 👍 Pinky.

      I'm not a fan of milk, so always have my tea pretty dark as it's not got much milk in it! It wasn't bad overall, I think 7/10 was about fair. Really enjoying a wander through your videos. The bread probably saved the day in one way, as chips of that variety tend to go cold rather quickly and a chip butty was probably the best way out. Salad cream on chips - a common enough thing in the 70s, particularly among those who had been abroad and eaten chips with mayonnaise but could not at that time find mayo on the shelves. A little ketchup might have made the sandwich easier to eat too; I don't mind tartare sauce on the fish and something else on the chips. Good value for money but surely Morrison's do a chunkier chip that could be used to make a proper meal? The real star of the show was the fish, which might so easily have been "the piece of cod which passeth all understanding". The mushy peas were at least not mushy-rooms but yes, it was pease pudding, which has a place but is too heavy for this use.

    • @GreenoEats
      @GreenoEats  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As a child of the 70s that’s probably where the chips and salad cream came from. We ate some strange things looking back. Any time we had a salad it would have a dollop of cold baked beans on it 🤣 Glad you’re enjoying having a little trawl through the archives!

      @@GreenoEats That sounds like a similar thing - adaptation to approximate something we would have more authentically with today's bean salads. In the Welsh Valleys during the 70s the lettuce in a salad would be dressed with sugar and vinegar, which today sounds bizarre. The other thing is that shops here were pretty conservative until well into the 80s - a lot of products you would see advertised on TV just didn't appear, even in supermarkets. Heinz Curried Beans were as exotic as it got... Yes, really love your videos.

    I had the ultimate Fish and chips in the Brecon Morrisons the other day. The fish was large and crispy batter and had flavour. The chips were undercooked in my view, wife would not touch them. Tried curry sauce for the first time. Sauce on its own was quite nice but lacked rice and a curry as it certainly does not belong to the fish and chip family. Mushy peas were ok. Needed seasoning. The garlic bread was brilliant. For the price it was good value. Chips spoilt it. But i have had good chips in the past. . Thanks for review.. Like you the fish was first class. My wife a retired chef and a fish foodie found the Fish first class for a change. Thanks again.
