      I think she has always been down to earth and because she was originally a child star, she saw many other child stars fall from grace when they were no longer cute or a money maker for the studios.
      She shunned the limelight for quite some time when she went to university to get a really good education and qualifications she could fall back on.
      She is wise beyond her years.

      lynn jackson I think it also helped that her parents didn’t push her into it. She was the one who wanted to perform (she tells this story in interviews). I think that makes a big difference. Wil Wheaton, for example, shares freely that his parents forced him to do acting as a child, and it traumatized him. He does a lot of advocacy work now. Glad Mayim didn’t go through that.

My daughter decided to be vegetarian when she was 11 about 2 and 1/2 years ago. And about a few weeks before this quarantine thing she decided to go vegan. You have been a blessing.I respect her reasons for being vegan and I took her to her doctor to make sure all her blood levels were good. We also have a nutrition consult. This joyful preparation is lovely to watch!
    I recommend heating up the pan more, and waiting a little longer for it to heat up. If you drop the batter for the first one in too early, it will just sit and soak up the oil because it doesn't start baking immediately. This makes it become rubbery, stick to the pan, and not bake as well. I bring up the stove on maximum heat and lower the temperature once it's thoroughy hot. You can check when to start by holding the palm of your hand over the pan (with a distance that's about the width of a hand, I'd say) - when you feel a gentle warmth emanate from the skillet to your skin, it's ready.

    Its so funny for me to see you cooking it. Because here in Germany this dish ist called 'Pfannkuchen' which translates to pancakes. And it's one of the most normal foods and so typical. I wasn't aware that you can put so much thought and excitement into making it and I love it :D

      ...and in Poland a bit more complicated, 'naleśniki' ;))) My 8-year-old excels at this but never does she have even nearly that much fun with them as you do!
      Btw, I never bother to butter the skillet, just dump a bit more fat (for me it's oil) into the batter and it makes the non-stick trick, though I bet it's not that delicious. Also, with these it really pays off to have a dedicated skillet with lower rants - non-stick and makes easy to turn these.
      Last comment: I loved your 'I need a shmata' (Polish 'szmata' is a rag, but also colloquially a kitchen towel). Great episode!

      That's quite interesting, here in north east saxony we call these things "Plinse/Plintze" while the rest of Germany says Eierkuchen or Pfannkuchen! So maybe it has jewish roots here!

    • @Historian212
      @Historian212 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sommerregenluft It’s more likely that the Jews adapted it from locals as they migrated into Europe long ago. Many (most?) Ashkenazi “Jewish foods” are the same or similar to those of the surrounding people’s. It makes sense: for example, Jews originally would have used olive oil for cooking when they were still living in the Mediterranean area. But olive oil was rare or impossible to get in northern Europe, centuries ago. So they used rendered animal fats like chicken or goose fat (not pork fat, it’s not kosher). It made sense to adapt to using whatever ingredients were available. Some of the best blintzes I ever had were in a Polish restaurant in New York City. Jewish foods I grew up eating were very similar to what I found in Polish and Ukrainian restaurants, because my Jewish great-grandparents were from those areas, and cooked stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, challah bread, etc. Aside from kosher considerations, there are some differences, of course. But the similarities are many. This is true of Jewish cuisine around the world - and of culture in general. People migrate, they mingle, they share. 😊

    Yeah, Blintzes are popular dish in Poland🇵🇱, especially in the eastern part, for example around Białystok😀 But our pancakes look also similar. We call them "naleśniki". They are thin and rolled up. We eat them mainly with jam or cottage cheese, but sometimes we add blueberries or other fruits. I think I can safely say that such a dish like polish pancakes(almost like blintzes) is in the Polish home at least once a week and there's nothing to do with religion. Love from Poland ❤️ You look beautiful in red 😊

    I love your holiday videos. They remind me of a wonderful time in my life, when my three closest friends were older Jewish women. Sadly, they are no longer with us, but I will be forever grateful that they allowed me, a lapsed Catholic twenty something, into their lives to share some of their traditions.
