- Krish Ashok is a blogger, humourist, web2.0 peterologist, Madras liker, crow lover, little bit playing the violin, lot of playing the fool, Jalsa & Jilpa, liker of Paruppu Usili.
He is a passionate open source enthusiast, an amateur Rubyist, a classical violinist and a guitarist, an amateur cellist,used to be a Radio Jockey with Chennai Live 104.8 and is now a columnist for Indian Express, where he writes a weekly column called Globalized Gapsaa that looks at the impact of technology on globalization and culture in a humorous vein. He also writes for Cricinfo.
He is the capacious mind behind Doing Jalsa And Showing Jilpa one of the most popular blogs in the Indian Blogosphere. In his own words, Krish Ashok is a music loving philistine who is doing jalsa, showing jilpa, enjoying gilma, vuttufying peter, sutthufying ooru and generally having gajabuja fun.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
I hadn't planned the talk well enuf to squeeze all I wanted to convey clearly & lucidly in 18 mins, so I can perfectly understand that a large bulk of the talk looks like stuff from my blog. But I was there to share what I had done and not just give gyaan :) I cant tell ppl to get hobbies without showing mine off. So if it did seem like an ad for my blog, well, I'll admit it. It was :)

Hi Krish, as a TCSer myself, I'm very pleased to see that you are able to enjoy your job as well as your hobbies. Seeing someone like you survive and thrive in TCS gives hope to the rest of us. Looking forward to reading your personal blog and maybe meeting you someday.
@SenoraYT Agree with a) but if you look at history, most of the really original stuff in art has already been done. I believe a large bulk of new art is likely to be derivative with stunningly original stuff coming few and far in between. On b) I will agree only in the case of savants, but not for the large bulk of ordinary people. Someone like Mozart is the type with certain inherent wiring in his brains that makes him abnormally brilliant. ,
Perhaps it might be useful to quickly respond to some of the comments here
1. Yes, my writing skills are definitely better than my speaking skills.
2. The intended structure was "how humour works" leading to how remixing is a big part of humour and how remixes are easier today and how culture is generally remixed and finally how creativity is intimately related to remixing and why that's important in the coming years. And all of this is possible only if one has a few hobbies

Ooh! 3 year old video. Good video, good message. The comments of people who are criticizing the video vehemently resemble what a few different versions of Darth Vaadhiar might say!. I feel people who may agree or may not with the content or presentation would still find the message quite agreeable and important. I feel what you did here krishnashok is very important; not just funny. Good work!
Is there any point to this video? It talks less about disregarding work & embracing hobbies and more about his productions.

This was at a private Under graduate University in South India and he is already a well known blogger. We can't expect TED global, Oxford kind of mannerism considering that audience was mainly 20'ish crowds.
By TEDx standard it is still a good talk.

I don't know which TED speeches you've seen? Maybe they're just the IT ones. But a LOT of the TED talks are even more humorous, interactive and in many ways "silly" as this one.

As a man who can talk about mediocrity and grapple the gamut of TEDx talks, I want to see YOUR TEDx talk wherever you are.
Talking without making it happen in ones life is entirely different from talking after you have done something like in ashok's case. Let me see your TED x or TED talk and then I will comment.
So.. you want to watch TED to feel elitist and prestigious? Why not just marry the queen? Its a lot easier.
