    I'm a morning lifter. I wake up, use the restroom, hang on my pull-up bar for about a minute, grab a band and go outside to watch the sunrise doing things to warm up my shoulders and hips which includes a deep squat I hold anywhere from 5 minutes up to 9 minutes then once the blood settles down I start lifting or running

      @@welp5970 I do quite often, I'm not sure why but like I said I'm working on things to get my upper back stronger because I think that's my issue, I can get the bar on my knees and pick it up a lot faster then if I have it on my back. It's crazy that I can do 150 kg in my elbows but I can't do it on my back. I'm starting to think maybe it's a mental stability issue even though I use one of those Buffalo bars and the bar has never ever slipped it's in my elbows the bar never goes anywhere. The rucking, the cleans and power cleans, the chains, the kang squats, they are all helping me

    Due to work I used to be an afternoon (2-ish) lifter. I actually hated working out in the morning BUT, it’s been morning workouts for the last decade and now I prefer it. I’m dead the rest of the day, but it’s better especially when you get older.
    I don’t usually promote someone’s stuff (pay me right?) but , if you’re on the fence about getting any of Brian’s programs, do it. I’ve completed his mass builder and RPM programs. They are NO joke, but great programs. They will kick your a$$. They will also get you in great shape. I just completed the RPM program and next on deck is the scaled power builder. I can’t wait.
    So get a program; they’re inexpensive and work. Go! Go order now!

    I'm a noon/midday lifter, work from home so it's easy. Late night sessions sound like a blast, but my wife is an early bird so she's in bed before I would get down to the gym.
    As far as Zerchers/yoke carries, the thicker axle bar doesn't feel bad in the crook of the elbow, standard Oly bars are murder. Yoke carries are kind of a "take a deep breath and pray your don't black out" kinda thing. Great for building a strong Conans Wheel foundation (if you're ever presented with it).

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      See, I don’t really feel that much of a difference between the axle and a barbell. I just don’t like the knurling on the Barbell, that’s why I go for the axle so I don’t get all caught up.
      But really great and thought out answer brother thank you for loving it!

    Never been a big fan of morning workouts so I usually do 7-9pm after a typical white-collar workday. However, I do struggle with poor sleep that night if I extend it too late or otherwise have a big workout so have to be careful about that. I prefer anywhere in the 10am - 2pm timeframe but usually work gets in the way.

    I feel you on the shoulder issues. As for the QOTD, I prefer to workout about 5-6PM. Being older and slower (as well as several medical issues including a quad bypass and no cartilage in my right hip) I need more rest sometimes and I like have the time to get my workout in and slow it down. I also love a weekend workout that starts about 2-3 and I can just take my time and enjoy the challenge of the workout.

    Morning worker outer since I started working out. Used to be an endurance runner so running towards a sunrise gave me life haha but even now as a lifter, getting shit done in the morning means that it’s quiet, I’ve just drunk a lot of coffee, and then it’s done. Getting it done early and first thing is just as much a discipline thing than convenience. It also means that I can’t skip it if I’m tired later in the day. I am an later afternoon/early evening lifter because I do it after work typically on weekdays. I used to be a nighttime (like 7-8PM start time) lifter before I had a home gym.
    It's funny you mentioned liking the idea of a late night lift. Myself and few close friends have joked since high school (i'm over 30 now) that our "peak hour" mentally is like midnight. But, like you, that's never been feasible for my life so I never lift that late.

    I did some zercher squats a couple of weeks ago. My first thought was how much easier they felt compared to a front squat. Like my butt could come up a bit more to allow the posterior to assist without the bar getting away from me. I can't let that happen on a front squat (or zombie squat), they just require stricter, more upright form IMO.
    Hope your shoulder gets better. I've had a couple shoulder injuries in the past and they've taken a while to rehab until they feel "good" again. I think there's a bit of an art to finding a good ortho that is willing to really figure out what's wrong. Making sure they have a sports / PT focused background seems to be key.
    I'm a late morning lifter (usually before lunch). Never really enjoyed getting up early to lift before work, and I've never really been able to lift super late unless it's a small workout with isolation exercises. I'm just too wired after working out late with heavier compounds and can't sleep well. Thankfully, I have a really nice gym at work, so I can take a break in the middle of the day. Feels quite helpful with keeping the overall stress at work down, too. If I have a meeting or other time conflict, I'll just end up lifting in the early afternoon. I don't love some workouts after eating lunch, especially a hard lower body day... but you gotta do what you gotta do.

    Hope it's nothing too serious with your shoulder and it's soon better. I love doing dragon flags as they're a great core exercise, but they really annoy my elbow tendonitis (golfer's elbow)- is there a way to get around that? I tried holding the bench above my head and to the sides, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I wear elbow cuffs too. Also, I'd love to be a late morning or early evening lifter as that's when my body feels the most energetic, but due to work (and not liking a busy gym) I tend to have to do early mornings

  • @ericy1
    @ericy1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My preferred lifting time is actually based around my schedule, I like to do 1-3 hours of productivity after eating breakfast, then have a snack, then train. Depending on work/school that's ranged from 10-3

    I'm extremely interested in what is wrong with your shoulder because it sounds a lot like what's wrong with mine. Also the right one. Something feels like it's dislocated, and it's all clicky even all over the rotator cuff area and the right lat, but when it hurts (which isn't always) it hurts at the front. It's so weird.
    As for when do I lift - sadly, I lift after work. I am typically a morning lifter, it's what I enjoy the most. But at the moment I don't have the time for it, so I just lift after work. I still lift in the morning on weekends, though.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you and I have the same exact thing dude. I couldn’t get an appointment till next Thursday, but I will keep everyone updated with what’s going on so that hopefully you can get diagnosed as well.

    • @vs1146
      @vs1146 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had some success with resistance bands. I do exercises to strengthen the mid-back, rotator cuff muscles and the serratus anterior. I think I know how I messed mine up, too. One day I woke up with a lot of tension in that area, and I used (abused more like) a lacrosse ball to alleviate some of the stiffness, which did the trick, but it also messed something up in there. I know for a fact that all of the muscles in that area are now significantly weaker than on the left side of the body.
