I'm currently studying for my MCAT, and hated watching the 30min KA videos and reading the monotonous review books for some of the metabolic processes. It helps me so much to see how each part moves and changes another. This video, along with your others, saved me what would have been HOURS of studying. You should consider doing one on the pentose phosphate pathway :) currently the bane of my existence lol
I never share comments but I just have to say that I am in college, using these videos and the game, and it is teaching me more than I learned in the last 2 weeks! So helpful! Thank you so much!
THANK YOU! Your respiration series saved me for my exam. I'm going to watch more of your videos to prep for the final too. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!
I really want to thank you from the button of my heart, this week I have my biology exams and I got. nothing during the class but noww everything is clear please keep going! ❤❤❤
these videos have been so instrumental in helping me understand respiration! you did a really great job (way better than my biology PROFESSOR). The website too has also solidified my understanding. Thank you so much and keep up the great work
Does the repeated oxidation to the 4-carbon compound do nothing to it? Before, it made co2, but after that, it was being oxidized repeatedly with seemingly no change. Is the change that it’s being turned into a different 4-carbon-compound, or does taking electrons do nothing to change it? Love your videos by the way!
Hi sir! I love your videos, they are helpful and informative. Do you have a video on anaerobic respiration? It is coming in my exam and I need help with it.
Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying them! Unfortunately, I don't have a video on anaerobic respiration currently, but I think that is a good suggestion for the future. Best of luck on your exam!
A woman telling me with a straight face that testosterone and estrogen are carbohydrates led me down a rabbit hole of saccharides that somehow ended up here.
That's a bit of a journey! Glad you're here! You were right to be skeptical of her claim... Testosterone and estrogen are both steroids (a type of lipid), not carbohydrates. All the best!
You can use animation software like Adobe Animate, Serif DrawPlus, or many others. I don't know if that fully answers your question, but I hope it was helpful!
Is this really all that there is to the Krebs Cycle? I am interested in maybe getting into family medicine, and I was wondering if this is just a watered down version of the cycle, or if this is pretty much it?
Conceptually yes, that is the Krebs cycle. In college biochemistry, you might need to also memorize the names of enzymes and intermediate compounds, but it's still the same process. I hope that helps!
Can you explain how acetyl CoA (C2H3O1) reacts with oxaloacetate (C4H4O5) to give citric acid (C6H8O7). When I add the acetyl CoA and oxaloacetate together i get C6H7O6 which is obviously not the same as the citric acid chemical formula. I would really appreciate the help :)
Good thinking... it's important for the equation to be balanced. The key is that water is part of the reaction, providing the extra hydrogen atom and oxygen atom needed. The remaining extra hydrogen from the water appears to simply become a hydrogen ion. You can see this by studying the equation shown here: sandwalk.blogspot.com/2007/09/are-you-as-smart-as-third-year_11.html?m=1 I hope that helps!
That reaction is an example of substrate level phosphorylation. Basically, the reaction releases energy that is used to join ADP to phosphate to make ATP. That is how ATP is made during the Krebs cycle. Does that help?
It's amazing how all of this happens so quickly from taking a breath to exhaling
I agree, it really is amazing how life works!
