Dear Kraftwerk in 1981: Decades in the future, people all over the world will watch this very performance on their pocket computers and discover the beautiful, cool, brilliance that is the music of Kraftwerk!
My daughter is 14 now and has been listening to kraftwerk since she was 1 and a half she is overly obsessed sings there songs all the time she has a unique music taste😊
Italian TV was always so bizarre but in this case they captured a gem by complete chance! This is sheer brilliance! 👏🏻🎸😎 They were all young and had cool robotic dance moves!
I'm thinking that's where Mike Myers' got the music, outfits, and attitude for his Saturday Night Live skit called, "Sprockets"! "You may touch my monkey." "You have driven me insane... THERE, I am no insane..." (I think I got those quotes close to being accurate. Now it's time to dance!!!! [que Electric Cafe]!)
I was already listening to Kraftwerk in 1970, 1971 when I was in Jr. High 14, 15 years old out here in the Central West Coast of California. Their first 3 albums are uploaded on TH-cam. Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk Vol. 2, Ralf und Florian, and of course Autobahn and the rest of their albums that followed. Also check out their early live video footage on TH-cam, Rock Blast Kraftwerk.
@Lord Dr George Dufort LLB ITCCS world HQ Brussels Well, in some ways I wish Kraftwerk kept doing their experimental/electronic/avant-garde music sounds after their 5th album Radioactivity. Somewhat like Tangerine Dream or like Klaus Schulze. But I do like Trans Europe Express, Man-Machine, and Computer World albums. Yeah, Kraftwerk did open the door for hip hop and techno pop music all around the world. They did refuse to collaborate with Michael Jackson when he wanted to collaborate with them. Have to give Kraftwerk some credit for refusing to collaborate with Michael Jackson. Time served.
@Lord Dr George Dufort LLB ITCCS world HQ Brussels I don't know why Gucci Gambino calls them hip hop but they are definitely not hip hop. I'm not sure what you have against hiphop but you should tone it down a bit either way.
@Lord Dr George Dufort LLB ITCCS world HQ Brussels Hip Hop?? Lol. They have nothing to do with the start of Hip Hop. It's not their fault that every genre in the world has ganked their sound & sampled it. Duh.
What I'd give for another 3 seconds of this video before it cut off, just as Florian is about to do the 'rabbit ears' behind the hostess's head! He brought such a subtle understated yet hilarious side to the band, despite the seriousness of the Mensch-Maschine image. The clip of the Netherlands performance of this bears that out as he is "OH"-ing and "EE"-ing at the camera as he hits the calculator keys...Wonderful.
Love the intro, the Italian and German psyche's meet! And they all smiled at the end of the performance, first time i've seen that in 35 years as a fan.
I was 8 when this was aired here in Italy and i remember it quite well cause i used to watch Discoring every sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Kraftwerk were famous even in my country.
Discoring: "Guys, it's an 8x8 stage with one hardcam and we're on live TV so we only want you to lip-synch this one." Florian: "We'll need a mobile phone with a headset, an adding machine, a metal skewer, a miniature toy keyboard and a palm pilot." Discoring: "What's a palm pilot?"
Fortunately, many, many people still love and follow the careers of Karl and Wolfgang. I for one keep up with Wolfgang and am delighted he is touring, making new music and is so communicative with the public. Being able to enjoy those two, is still a great treasure! :)
There are a few components to learning Italian online . One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Hartlyn language lessons (check it out on google) definately the no.1 remedy i've found. Check out the amazing info
@@creatornat One of the best comments I have come across in years, totally agree with you! I'm also very delighted to see that a significant number of Kraftwerk-fans appreciate the huge contributions these two have made to Kraftwerk's sound.
Of course I was in front of TV that day! I had just brought Computer World in cassette just 3 days before in Rimini.... Kraftwerk sometimes frightened me because they were so ahead of time especially during the Radioactivity period. Then with the trio TEE, TMM and CW I think was impossible to do it better in music history!
What fascinates me: the switch from this a little boring background disco music in 0:38 to this powerful and very clear Kraftwerk sound soon after. awesome!
No matter what language, this is the perfect pop song! What started with Hot Butter's catchy electronic version of "Popcorn" ended with Kraftwerks irresistibly catchy "Pocket Calculator". A close second might be Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough". But nothing has been so infectious since I'd say.
I think, many italian DJs have watched this and was inspired to make her own music. And they create more melody around this stumping electronic beat - and ITALO DISCO was born. ;)
