The question is, can I beat a Pokemon Hardcore Nuzlocke challenge in Heartgold version using only Rock types? Well, it's a short question, but with a long answer, get some popcorn and a beverage and hope you enjoy.
Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the Type Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

I can't believe how lucky you got during that champion fight. You really had no business winning that after Lance swapped out of Gyarados, but Golem managed to pull through with blessed RNG.
For future reference, poisoned Pokémon do not faint by walking around in Gen 4. The poison goes away when they hit 1 HP. This is unique to Gen 4. So Sudowoodoo was safe.

Magnemite line doesn't have Levitate. They have Magnet Pull (not very useful against the Pokemon you can use) or Sturdy (which in this Gen is worthless). You were worried about literally nothing.

I tend to forget little details like this, I'd rather double check instead of screw up though.
In a regular hardcore nuzlocke magnet pull can pretty much guarantee steelix and skarmory if you play your encounters correctly. In soulsilver I do this and grab Ursaring in victory road. If you don’t allow trades, delaying onix and grabbing steelix is nice as well so I wouldn’t call it bad. It’s much better than sturdy.
Glad to see somebody else tried to do this run too! You dont see many rock type hardcore Nuzlockes and this is definitely one of the harder games to do a rock type run on between the Rival early game and Lance! Great vid, I always love to see Heartgold content!

1. Finishing off the dragonair with ancient power for potential boost.
2. replacing Surf with protect (If tm is available) to stall pur hydro pumps (if needed).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Janine's level cap is 36, and the ability to get any rock types under the cap at that point in the game would be impossible.
Storm badge even makes sense for the ice and dragon gyms more than fighting.

Well, the early gens are very japanese games. Sailors/fishermen are those that fight the ocean.
Would love you to try an ice type nuzlocke! It's my 4th favorite type, and swsh are good games for them since you can get a good few early in the game

I'm going to take a moment to get a little cranky about this guy making fun of johto badge names cause I think they're all really cool and evocative of the types they represent.
zephyr is a type of wind, it's also just a cool word. hive badge is by far the best name for any bug gym badge thus far (copare to insect badge from unova and bug badge from kalos) I've always thought the plain badge could be either plain (simple in design) or plain (the fields where miltank and tauros mght live) fog badge is spooky and amorphous and hard to see, like ghosts. mineral and glacier are cool names for their respective types. and rising badge represents, you know, the player rising to the challenge of the gym leaders, and in this case the ability to master dragon types, since you can get to the dragon's den after beating clair.
of course I like the storm badge, that's what got me thinking. cianwood is an island, which weathers a lot of...storms. and the stormy environment would be a great place for someone to train and get really buff in.

I would say so, it's a simple to learn game and once you know the basics, you'll be able to follow along easily. I'd suggest looking for a quick tutorial so that you get a good look at what's going on.

To be honest, I think the descision to use swap evolutions does take away a lot of the nuzlocke challenge runs. I'd prefer if the rules would only allow vanilla game options. Of course its up to you, but for me it feels wrong.

you can get a slugma, mareep, or wooper egg in the beginning of the game by saying random words to primo- the words you say are based off your trainer id.

That shouldn't be happening, I'm just gonna throw that up to the luck of the draw and that the midrolls just kept deciding to play for you instead of being skipped since they're only supposed to play on average 1 out of every 4 placed, and there certainly was not 48 midrolls placed. I'd suggest TH-cam Premium if you've got $12 a month to spare and you use TH-cam a lot. Sorry about that!

I'd suggest making one! It's a relatively good platform to follow creators that you watch here on YT and seeing some other stuff that isn't just videos, but other than that it does tend to be a bit of a hellscape, just turn on the blinders and enjoy yourself lol
